CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE

point of view | yasmine alaoui

...

"i loved driving with him." i thought looking at him.

his hands were towards the bottom of the steering wheel. his face lit red due to the stationary cars in front of us. late night traffic was annoying for most people, but it allowed us to spend time together.

"you know i had a dream about you." zayne said quietly.

i laughed flattered, "really?"

he smiled glancing at me then back at the wind shield, "really."

"what was it about?" i questioned him.

"it felt so real," he said, "it was you and i and we were sitting on a bridge."

"thats it?" i asked.

he laughed, "it felt like forever in my dream. we jus sat next to each other. it was dark and then the sky began to get lighter than i woke up. it was weird."

"thats cute," i commented looking out the window, "i dont remember my dreams."

"i usually do," he responded, "but they're usually realistic if i do. sometimes i think its real and it happened."

"really thats so weird," i said scrunching my face, "have they ever came true?"

"a few yeah," he answered me, "but like small things. like i get really bad déjà vu."

"woah," i breathed wishing that happened to me, "what about lucid dreams?"

"where i can't move a thing," zayne teased and i smiled at him, "i have yeah. i had one like a few weeks ago."

"what was it?" i asked.

"dont get excited," he told me, "its boring. but i knew i was dreaming because i checked my phone and the date said november 2. it was weird because i knew my birthday hadnt past. so i knew i was dreaming. then i laid back down and then my alarm went off and i woke up."

i shivered, "ew. what the hell."

he chuckled, "i was hella confused waking up. i looked it up. i thought i was gonna die."

i crackled a laugh," are you serious?"

he blushed, "i was so confused, bruh."

i continued to laugh at him for several seconds.

"thats cute," i commented, "but i wish i could dream like you. thats like a cool thing."

"it would be cooler if i was like in a fist fight or something," he scoffed playfully, "waking up to fall back asleep as my lucid dream story is lame as hell."

"its very telling." i countered and his jaw dropped in offence.

"you're a cheesehead for that." he mocked me.

i laughed and we shared a moment of silence. only the music from the speakers of the car sounded while we were in the car.

"oh my God," i exclaimed looking out the window, "that corvette is sexy!"

"a stingray," zayne stated, "its pretty nice."

i turned to look at him and he sat up straight in his seat. we were still stationary in traffic so no one was driving.

"i want one when im older," i admitted, "my mom hates them."

"what?" he scoffed, "why?"

"shes says they're too masculine." i muttered thinking back to how frustrating she was when it came to things i liked.

"pfft." he scoffed.

"right?" i agreed.

"i think they're sick," he commented, "you should aim for one."

"i will." i said smiling giving the car another glance before turning back to zayne.

"are you excited for the future?" he asked me.

i paused and watched as the car in front of us moved forward. zayne stepped on the gas a little and began driving again. the traffic was clearing up; moving.

"i am." i answered him.

"for what kinds of things?" he asked me.

i blushed.

"you're gonna make fun of me." i mumbled.

"no i wont," he reassured me," come on. tell me."

"im really excited to get married." i said quietly feeling my cheeks heat up.

he didnt respond for a few seconds, "whats embarrassing about that?"

"i dont know!" i said throwing my hands up awkwardly, "i um ... most people dont want to get married anymore."

"what?" he asked, "really?"

"yeah," i told him, "whenever its brought up more people say they dont want to get married than they do want to."

"i wanna get married." he said shrugging.

i felt myself smile at him.

"what about dating?" he asked me.

he noticed my neck flush and he smiled at me as i asked him, "what about it?"

"how do you feel about it?" he asked me.

"um well," i began, "i um i think its healthy."

"yeah?" he asked me, "when do you think its right for people to start dating?"

my heart skipped a beat, "when the two of them feel its right. when they like each other and trust each other enough to commit romantically to each other."

he turned to me before flicking on his blinker and switching lanes for the highway that brought us to our home area.

"i like that," he said after a while, "have you ever dated someone?"

i fiddled with my fingers, "no."

he hummed and looked at me for a long moment before smiling, "what?"

"n-nothing." i answered him looking out the window.

"you're acting so weird," he laughed, "whats up?"

"its jus the questions ... " my voice trailed off.

"i was curious," he defended himself, "we were on the topic of the future and marriage. you werent thinking about us?"

my cheeks heated up.

"WHEN DID HE GET SO BOLD? " i huffed, "WASNT HE GEEKING OUT US HOLDING HANDS LIKE TWO DAYS AGO?!?! "

"i mean i was ... yeah," i said quietly, "i didnt thin-"

"i was too," he said interjecting me, "i think about us a lot."

my heart couldnt handle him using the term " us ".

"i do too," i said quickly, "but i didnt know if you ... i dont know."

"would you date me if i asked you to?" he asked calmly.

my cheeks reddened, "um well yeah i-"

"so will you?" he asked me with a smile but i could see the pinkness of his cheeks, "will you date me?"

i laughed nodding, "yeah, yes."

he laughed too, "whats funny?"

"nothing," i told him smiling, "so we're dating?"

"thats what you agreed to a few seconds yeah," he said eyeing me with a smile, "is that okay?"

"yes, yes it is," i said laughing, "God, i was jus making sure you were answering the question right."
