CHAPTER THIRTEEN

point of view | zayne ali

...

i rubbed my eyes after hitting stop on my alarm. i stared off at the floor for several minutes before getting up to get ready for school. i tossed my covers from my legs and scooted off onto my feet. i stretched a little and smacked my lips walking over to my bedroom door to go brush my teeth and wash my face in the upstairs bathroom.

after getting ready, putting on a nicely fitted white tee and black sweats, i shoved my feet into my slightly creased air force ones. i stood up looking at the body mirror i had in my room, due to my height i could only see my chest to my ankles. i grabbed my cologne off my dresser and sprayed once on my neck and twice along my shirt before puffing my curls with the palms of my hand, crouching to see my face in the mirror, slightly satisfied with my appearance i then walked over to my night stand taking my phone from my charger.

i grabbed my ear buds, placing the end into my phone. i fitted both of them into my ear and opened spotify hitting shuffle on yasmines vibin playlist. i had to admit the playlist was good.

all star by lil tecce ft lil tjay began playing and i pouted my lip impressed yet again by her music taste. i grabbed my book bag off the floor and tossed it onto my back, looping my arm through the straps. i turned for my bedroom door ready to leave the house and walk to the bus stop for another week of school.

...

"i had an idea!" mrs steven, my literature teacher said consuming every students attention, "a way to get to know you all better. we are going to start doing attendance questions. so everyday there will be a question on the board and instead of saying here you all will answer it!"

"ugh," i groaned internally, "God, i hate talking in front of people. and im A so im first."

"okay so todays question is," mrs. steven said putting up the question on the  board, "what is your favorite song? first up zayne."

i felt my entire body get hot once i felt eyes on me. i sat up in my chair making light eye contact with the teacher saying, "right now. final warning."

my words came out deeper than i intended them to be and i slumped into my seat staring at the cover of my independent reading book.

"ahh," the teacher said, "i have a feeling im not going to know most of these songs."

"its by a rapper," a student said and my leg began bouncing, "nle choppa. its a good song to be fair."

i stared at the cover for a very long time, zoning out until the independent reading timer went off making my eyes widen. i had day dreamed through my reading time.

"fuck." i muttered under my breath.

...

i was nearing my table, empty no yasmine to be found. i couldnt help but get nervous thinking back to friday, going over to her house. meeting her parents. standing in her bedroom. making her blush like she made me. going through her jerseys. her making sure my order was right. holding her delicate hand under the table.

the library door opened and i looked up from my now well shaken and ranch distributed salad to see yasmine slightly out of breath hurrying towards me. her curls bounced with each step she took. her lips formed into a smile as she took the seat diagonal from me. before she sat down she paused and instead walked over to my side of the table, her hand touching my back lightly as she walked behind me taking the seat directly next to me.

i felt her looking at me. i swallowed the bits of my salad before returning the glance. she looked at me for a long moment, the blood beginning to run to my face.

she broke the silence, "i enjoyed hanging out with you on friday."

my eyes stayed on my salad which i took another bite out of.

i let her words linger in the air for another moment before agreeing, "me too."

i felt her hand caress mine gently, as always taking my phone and pausing my music. instead of retreating her hand back to her lap she reached for it again and held it in her hand. the warmth of her hand quickly over taking the coldness of mine, coldness mine always seemed to have. my head turned and i met her eyes again, she smiled at me for a long moment.

for once in a blue moon i decided to break the silence, "i-i heard you liked writing."

she smiled at me scooting her chair closer to mine. she didnt drop my hand, it was going to be awkward eating with my left hand but i didnt want to say anything, because i didnt want her to take her hand away from mine again.

"you heard correctly." she stated quietly, i took another awkward bite of my salad suddenly her laugh echoed loudly, "you loon!" she cried, "youre not left handed what are you doing?"

my face went read once she pulled her hand away from mine still laughing at me. i scrunched my face at her, frowning in embarrassment.

"im gonna fucking kill myself." i thought to myself, "holy hell im gonna do it."

"you're so-" her voice cut off and she smiled for a long moment, "yes, zayne i love writing."

i squinted my eyes at her, holding back a smile saying, "i dont care anymore."

she giggled, her shoulders bouncing as i continued to my salad with my RIGHT hand.

"yes you do. shut up," she stated her laughing calming down, "i told you about it once before-"

"i remember," i chimed in, interjecting her, "but i didnt think you like actually focused on it as much."

she smiled at me for a long moment, "yeah i do. maybe ill let you read someday."

"really?" i asked her and she flared her nostrils at me.

"no, you cheesehead!" she whispered yelled after noticing the glare the librarian was giving her, "you got a better chance at properly taking a bite of your salad with your left hand."

i glared at her and she smiled at me, leaning her head on my shoulder. the nervousness i had in my stomach hadnt died away. she sat still leaning on me until i was almost finished with my salad.
