“Shall I turn the light off, Sweetie?”  A dark haired woman asked as she gracefully glided on the plush cream carpet, her nightdress trailing behind her in a hush of expensive silk.

“No, Mama.” A child’s voice, muffled by the thick blanket of a large carved bed replied. The room screams with opulence and money but hiding behind this wealth was a presence of something sinister.

Something that made the child’s innocent eyes to dart fearfully at every dark nook and crevices of her vast room, that made her look pleadingly at her mother in a silent plea to remain by her side.

“Why is that, Sweetie?” The woman inquired, kissing the child’s forehead tenderly while securely tucking her. By maternal instinct, she sensed her child’s unease but the false sense of security given by technology and money curbed the strong urge that every mother have to comfort and protect their offspring.

“I’m afraid.” The child whispered, her chin trembling with fear and eyes darting warily with apprehension.

“Don’t cry. Mama will stay with you.” The woman said as she cradled the child protectively in her arms while humming a soothing lullaby, a harmonious song made to calm, to soothe, to softly coax sleep and soon enough the child fell into a deep slumber, secured in the protective embrace of her mother.

The woman carefully tucked her child in the huge bed and placed the child’s favorite teddy in her arms, smiling softly to herself as the child's gentle snores filled the spacious room.

Debating whether to leave to lights on or to turn it off, the woman hesitatingly walks out of the child’s room but at the last second, on a sudden whim brought by a wrong decision; she flicked the lights off, putting everything in total darkness.

She was completely oblivious to the dark creatures that slowly and stealthily stalk towards the sleeping child, creatures made mobile by the darkness.

The child whimpers in her sleep as she snuggled deeper under the warm blankets. Even in her unconscious state she could feel the menacing creatures coming towards her.

Malicious creatures that is darker than the shadows that dominated the room.

Like a pack of hungry wolves on the dead of winter, they stealthily stalk towards the bed.

Creatures of the night who attack the unprotected.

They are Ghost that haunts the innocent.

They are your worst Nightmare..

 and slowly they come..

“Lissy!” The girl lounging in the balcony settee jumped in surprise, almost dropping the book she was reading as her heart pounded against her chest from fright and from being spooked by the story she was reading.

“Mom! Don’t do that!” The girl exclaimed exasperatedly, clutching her chest in effort to calm her heart’s erratic beating.

“I called you but you neither move nor gave any indication that you heard me.” The older woman said humorously while finger-combing the girl’s heavy chocolate brown hair. “And if you stop reading horror stories, you would not be spooked so easily”.

“I’m not scared!” the girl mumbled sleepily as the slow, hypnotic movement of her mother’s hand lulled her to sleep–

“Come inside. Its late you should be in bed now." The woman said as she half-dragged, half-carried her daughter to bed.
