sharpened are your teeth
with blades you hide beneath
the looming veil of your cloak,
clutching the crow, making it choke.

your forehead furrowed,
eyes slitting and narrowed.
your fury needn't be so crimson,
brimstone-burning in its imminent extinction.

the fire that burns deep within
you mustn't let light your life
or else its pages will glow brighter than the colours of a puffin,
with all your soul's rage, knife
sharp and skin-cutting, breath tighter.

let these embers burn out and die,
let them flow upwards towards the sky,
let the air soothe your soul,
breathe in the breeze, deep and whole.

from the foggy mist you emerge,
cool, calm, collected, no urge
to express anything but relief,
you are now but an ever-flowing leaf.
