not so subtle anymore

'same lips red, same eyes blue
same white shirt, couple more tattoos
but it's not you and it's not me
tastes so sweet, looks so real
sounds like something that i used to feel
but i can't touch what i see'

As each song went on, it seemed to Louis that Harry had been getting more and more careless about trying to hide who the song was about. Not too long ago Louis could have been caught any day any time in a white shirt, with red lips, blue eyes, and his tattoos sticking out from his sleeves. He turned his head towards Harry and smiled before jokingly saying,

"Very subtle Harold. Well done." laughing as he saw Harry's cute smile in return.

'we're not who we used to be
we're not who we used to be
we're just two ghosts standing
in the place of you and me
trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat'

Louis wasn't going to make a joke out of this verse. He knew how it felt to enter a room that they used to share, and feel the eerie presence of the past, as though ghosts were taking the place of their memories. Harry was putting this feeling into words.

'the fridge light washes this room white
the moon dances over your good side
and this was all we used to need
tongue tied like we've never known
telling those stories we've already told
cause we don't say what we really mean
we're not who we used to be
we're not who we used to be
we're just two ghosts standing
in the place of you and me
we're not who we used to be
we're not who we used to be
we're just two ghosts swimming in a
glass half empty
trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat'

Louis and Harry knew better than anyone that nothing hurts more than running out of things to say to the one you love. What do you do when the most comforting thing in your life is to talk to someone, but neither of you have anything left to say?

You lose yourself. That's what you do.

'we're not who we used to be
we're not who we used to be
we're just two ghosts standing
in the place of you and me
we're not who we used to be
we don't see what we used to see
we're just two ghosts swimming in a
glass half empty
trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
i'm just trying to remember how it feels
to have a heartbeat.'

Louis reached over to grab Harry's other hand, the one that he wasn't already holding, and placed it palm down over his chest: right over his heart.

"Do you feel that?" He asked Harry gently as Harry readjusted so that he was almost laying on top of Louis.

"Yes..." Harry replied, almost in a curious manner, as if he was waiting for what Louis was going to say next.

"That's how it feels. To have a heartbeat I mean." He giggled while not breaking eye contact with Harry.
"My heart is your heart now, therefore, my heartbeat is also your heartbeat."

Harry leaned down and pressed a lingering kiss to Louis chest where his hand had been just seconds ago, and after breaking away pressed another kiss to Louis' lips.

"That was sappy." Harry said, in a mocking tone, giggling at Louis.

"Whatever." Louis replied, with a large grin etched across his face.

"Harry?"

"Yes?"

"You have to understand that when I wrote this next song...I was angry. I still loved you but I was mad. You have to know that I don't feel that way anymore." Louis said with concern in his voice.
