Hi! I'm Patrick. I have been writing about Japan and Japanese pop culture professionally since I was a teenager. I live in San Francisco, but go back and forth to Tokyo as much as possible.

My books include as an author and co-writer include:

TokyoScope: The Japanese Cult Film Companion (Cadence Books, 2001)

オタク・イン・USA:愛と誤解のAnime輸入史 (Ohta Shuppan, Japan, 2006)

Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno: Tokyo Teen Fashion Subculture Handbook (Chronicle Books, 2007)

Currently, I am the editor in chief of Otaku USA magazine and Crunchyroll News...

Recently, I have begun creating original stories and webcomics in association with Japanese artists. These include:

http://hypersonic-comic.tumblr.com
http://harajuku-crisis-team.tumblr.com

I've started using Wattpad to explore some new fiction (and non-fiction) ideas inspired by my last couple of years running around Tokyo's fasion, art, music, otaku, and subcultural scenes. Enjoy!
