The first meeting of Austerley and Kirkgordon would end in disaster but would shape their relationship for the rest of their lives. Having retired from professional protection duties that had carried him around the globe in the service of the rich and famous, Kirkgordon takes on one final job as a favour to an old friend. Leaving behind a secure household for this "one last job", he encounters Austerley, Professor at Miskatonic University and delver into all things strange and maddening. Watching out for Austerley on his quest to retrace a Occultic enthuisast's footsteps, Kirkgordon finds darkness he never knew existed.
