I always thought I was in debt to Kyle and Emily. They were so kind to adopt Dylan and I—no one ever really wanted twelve year old twins, they mostly just wanted the little kids. They had always greeted us with open arms and gave us everything we needed with a smile. An actual smile. I wasn’t sure how people did that sometimes. I trudged once again to Dylan, my brother… I went to his room. And then I finally succumb to the tears. I’m overcome with emotion and only then did it register; my twin older brother, the one thing in my life that never left me… was dead. A tree that was hit by lightning during a storm killed him. The day we escaped from prison. The day we thought we would be going home. He didn’t make it home. I fell deeper into my sobs and soon everything went black.
