As Sutherland's new king, Emory Davercher faces countless challenges, but nothing as excruciating and frustrating as his mysterious, eccentric betrothed.
***
When King Emory of Sutherland receives news that his betrothed is on her way to Sutherland, he sends her away before even laying eyes on the woman he has no intention of marrying. Months later, after a narrow escape from an assassination, he flees to his childhood home where he discovers a massive problem. Due to an unfortunate mishap, his betrothed has not left Sutherland. She's been in his secret estate all along.

Grand Princess Florence Paulet of Gavaria and her cousin, Lucy, thinks her arrival in Sutherland will be easy. She doesn't expect that her betrothed, King Emory of Sutherland, will send her straight to an empty estate on an island where they fend for themselves for months. And when he finally shows up, he has the audacity to fool her by introducing himself as someone else. After having killed dozens of chickens with her bare hands to stay alive, and with lying as her ultimate weapon for survival since she left Gavaria, what else can an annoyed, blithe, and audacious Florence do? Of course, she has to return the favor and make him twice the fool.

He thinks he's fooling her, and she finds fun knowing it's the other way around. As the harsh winter traps them in the estate, lies, little accidents, and undeniable attraction draw them together stronger than the snowstorm.

But not as much as Florence's true reasons for leaving Gavaria, which are also making their way to Sutherland.

I looked up horrified to meet his cold blue eyes as they peered down at me, the corners of his mouth curled slightly, revealing some of his beautifully white teeth. "I beg your forgiveness, My prince. I did not mean to offend you by accepting your brother's invitation to dance." I swallowed hard, trying to fight the lump of fear that had started to build in my throat, "I did not think I was allowed to decline." Prince Thomas let out a little chuckle, "Oh, I am not mad at you, Emma." I shivered when my name left his lips, "You have just piqued my interest, that is all." Grosvenor Square, 1813 The London Social Season has only just begun. With presentations before Her Majesty and new scandals simmering beneath the surface, one must wonder-how will this season unfold? This author, for one, cannot wait to find out. Consider, dear reader, the household of the Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton-who shall not only be shepherding her eldest daughter, Miss Daphne Bridgerton, but also her younger daughter, Miss Elena Bridgerton, through the dizzying whirl of the ton's festivities. Will they find their perfect matches? }~~~~~~~~~~~{ Miss Elena Bridgerton, though perhaps more open to the notion of marriage than her younger twin, Miss Eloise, remains a creature of intellect and curiosity. Her passion for knowledge-and for freedom-burns as brightly as any candle in the Bridgerton library. Follow her as she navigates the intricate waltz between love and liberty, striving to hold onto what little independence society allows her. Simon Basset, the newly minted Duke of Hastings, has but one purpose in London: to settle his late father's affairs before returning to Clyvedon. In no need-and even less desire-of a wife, the Duke has sworn never to marry. But will his resolve remain unshaken once he encounters the spirited and deceptively innocent Miss Bridgerton? Note: This story may include a touch of Daphne-bashing, as her role fades to the periphery while Elena takes center stage. Many familiar scenes will be reimagined and altered to fit this new narrative. Thank you, dear reader, for joining me on this journey. I do hope you enjoy.
