As some of you may know my new book, Eagles At War ( , hits the shelves in April. Before that, however, I have written a prequel short story featuring one of the central characters from Eagles At War, Tullus. It's set on the German frontier in the Spring of 6 BC.

When Lucius Cominius Tullus, a recently promoted centurion, gambles on a foot race between rival legionaries, he has no idea that his wager will endanger his very life, and that the streets of an Empire border town can be as deadly as the bloodiest battlefield.

A closely fought race, treachery in a back alley, a visit to the shrine of an Egyptian Goddess. A Roman centurion discovers that Fate will always hold him in her power.

Not good for him. I'm hoping his drunken state doesn't lose him his winnings.

@Cashjo : I think he might be! (He might also run into some trouble a few years later, in Eagles at War...)
Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you've enjoyed/are enjoying the two Spartacus books. Glad you're enjoying this story too!
                              Cheers - Ben
