The word "stainless steel" can apply to a variety of various iron-based metals: any such alloy having at least 10.5 percent chromium is termed stainless steel. Changing this proportion, as well as adding additional components such as molybdenum, nickel, carbon, and manganese, produces different varieties of stainless steel for varied uses.
