(y/n pov)

You frowned as you answered the call in your car. "Hey."

"Hey, where you at?"

"Still in fricking traffic," you mumbled. Gray chuckled. "What happened-- is everything okay?"

"He's perfectly healthy." You almost slammed the breaks and you were lucky it was a red light anyway.

"She-- he's born?" Gray hummed and you grinned. "Gray!"

"I know-- I-- got to be there," he said. "Since E and Elle didn't make it in time, I got to like, be in the room and everything." Your jaw dropped, still smiling, as you drove.

"Gray--"

"I know, I like, cut the, what's it called, the cord and it was so-- it was so beautiful, y/n, like--"

"Oh gosh," you sighed. "She gave birth." Gray sighed on his end and you smiled, hands gripping the wheel. "I can't believe I missed it."

"It's okay," he said. "How far are you?" You sighed, checking your phone for the directions.

"Not far-- it's just hard to drive in the rain." He hummed and heard his own windshield wipers go off. You frowned, eyebrows raising.

"You in the car too?"

"Uh--"

"You should be in the hospital with her!"

"E came," he told you. "He came then but they didn't let me out and him in so I did it." You nodded, stomach fluttering with butterflies. You couldn't wait to tell him. "It was so, holy shit-- he's so tiny too, like--"

"So is E with them now?" you asked. "Elle too?"

"Yeah, they came in and I-- mhm." You frowned.

"Why'd you leave?" you exclaimed. "Where are you going that's so important that you had to leave a teeny newborn baby--"

"I'm getting-- uh, clothes for e/w." You sighed.

"Okay, that makes more sense." You chuckled. "Oh, gosh, Gray, a baby!"

"Are you going straight to the hospital?" You hummed, taking a left turn.

"Almost there," you sighed. "How far are you from--" you cut yourself off as you paused a stop sign. Looking directly at the car in front of you, your eyebrows raised. You watched Gray lean in to look at you and his eyes widened before he laughed. It was cool to see him laugh, but hear it through the phone.

"What the heck?"

"Where are you going?" you asked as you both waited at the stop sign, longer than you had to, just staring at each other. He looked away from you, still smiling. You could barely see him with the rain pouring but you watched as he pushed his hair out of his face. "This is not the direction of our home, Gray."

"Okay, maybe I'm not going to get her clothes," he said. You were lucky there weren't any cars around. You rolled your eyes as you smiled at him. You wanted to pull over and tell him right there and then, but no. You could wait.

He'd probably complain about his hair getting wet anyway.

"So where are you going?"

"Why so nosy?" he asked. It was then that a car pulled up behind Gray, honking the horn, asking him to keep driving. Grayson rolled his eyes and you watched as he drove past you, a hand up to wave.

"Gray!" you laughed, driving in the opposite direction to the hospital.

"Just trust me," he sighed. "Now, pay attention to the road and get there safe please." You sighed, smiling and shaking your head.

"Alright, you too, okay?"

"Mhm."

"Are you gonna come straight to the hospital after?" He sighed and you heard a horn honk around him. "Okay, okay, you drive safe--"

"I will, and yes, I'll be at the hospital right after I-- uh, run my errand." You rolled your eyes as he chuckled. "Okay, love you."

"I love you too, see you soon."

"You bet you will."

---

"What?" Gray asked. "No, no, I was just here, like, an hour ago," he said, hands flat on the glass. The man looked at it and Gray removed his palms, definitely leaving a smudge.

"Well, it's not here, sir--"

"Well, where's the other guy-- there was another guy who-"

"Rick?" the new jeweller asked. "His shift is over he--"

"No, no," Gray mumbled, grabbing at his hair. "It was an engagement ring-- it was up there and--"

"Yes, sir, I just checked, these are what we have." Gray frowned. "And why wouldn't you buy it when you were here--"

"Because I was here with my sister in law and she went into labour!" Gray yelled in frustration. "Come on, man."

"There's nothing I can do-- maybe someone bought it after you were here?"

"It was like--"

"Excuse me, can we get some help?" another lady in the shop asked. The jeweller gave Gray a shrug before heading over.

Grayson frowned as he looked around the store, trying to find another ring that caught his eye like his original had, but nothing. He sighed, shaking his head as he looked around once more. Nothing.

He was so upset now. He thought that ring would be perfect for you- it looked a little like the one you had before, but it looked much nicer, in his opinion. And now he'd have to find another perfect ring.

He headed out of the store, throwing a peace sign to the jeweller who let him out of the store with a press of a button. Gray headed right back to his car, pulling his hood up over his head to keep himself from getting wet and went to open his car before he realized he'd left his keys somewhere. Rolling his eyes, he headed back to the store. The jeweller also rolled his eyes as he let Gray back in.

"Keys," Gray mumbled, pointing to the counter. The man nodded and Gray went to grab them from the counter he'd left them on. With a sigh, he looked around once more. A ring caught his eye, but definitely wasn't as nice as the other he'd seen.

Once the other people were done, Gray asked to see the ring. He picked it up and sighed. "Was this the one you were looking for?" Gray shook his head.

"No, no, it was different," he said with a frown. "It was more expensive than this." The man looked up at Gray.

"I have some new ones in the back that are definitely over this budget if you're willing to have a look?" Gray checked his watch.

"Uh-- sure, but I don't have too much time--" The man cut Gray off and disappeared behind the curtain to the back room.

He came back with a few trays and Gray sighed, all hope lost. "These are almost double the ones on the shelves--"

"Wait," Gray mumbled. "I've seen these before." His eyes scanned over the familiar rings and he picked one up. "Yeah, I looked at this one before."

"Was it the one you--"

"This one!" Gray gasped. He picked up the ring. "This, I want this--"

"That's around--"

"Don't care, I'm in a little bit of a hurry, sir," Gray mumbled, setting the ring back down. The jeweller smiled and nodded, glad that this flustered man would soon be out and on his way.

"Perfect, you can pay here?" Gray pulled out his wallet, kissing a couple of thousand dollars bye-bye from his bank account. Gray paid as he waited for the ring to be boxed up and he took it.

"Thank you so much--" Gray said quickly, slipping the box into his pocket.

"Yes, for sure--"

"I'll be back, I think," he said. The man sighed. "Not today but--"

"Yes, yes." Gray nodded and waved before running out the door. Or trying to, the man had to unlock it for him first. Gray chuckled nervously before walking out for reals, forgetting to pull his hood on and therefore getting his hair all wet.

Saying fuck it, he began to drive, making sure he had his wallet and more importantly, the ring. All set, he began his relatively short drive to the hospital, hoping you'd already arrived.

And it was all set-- he'd 'propose for real' and all aspects of this marriage that had been thrown upon you would be just as it should've been-- just a little out of order.
