out of breath
like you've been
running
for a long time
running away
from someone
or something
or somethings
the moon shines
bright
in the sky
which is
scattered
with droplets of
light
stars
the forest
behind you
is dark
menacing
beautiful
the wolves
snarl
as they tear
out of the
thorns
at the
edge of the
wood
and see you
arms spread
letting the
moonlight
sink into your
skin
and somehow
they find it
beautiful
mesmerizing
they pause
almost like dogs
in their docility
and wait
watch
don't move a
muscle
as you step forward
eyes
closed
another step
and another
until you're at the
edge of the cliff
rocks
tumbling down
into the ravine
below
you'd be impaled
if you jumped
so would the
wolves
they cock their heads
at you
perhaps
wondering
questioning
your choice
as you put one
foot
in front of the
other
and step
down
down
down
into the darkness
