like a

crafted in
oil
on linen
beautiful
but you don't see
the darkness
you don't see the
choking
suffocating
pinching
corsets
that squish them
into what
we want to
see
we romanticize
roses
and pain
and a lot of things
that we ignore the
darker side of
and in the same way
as the dresses
and the corsets we
force
people to fit this
mold
that we've
crafted
into what we call
perfection
you worth doesn't
have to be
what people
think
of you
it can be what you
think of yourself
your popularity
does not have to
define you
even if you believe
it does
you are more than
a notch
on a bedpost
a call
to your parents
a cut
in your skin
because below
all of the layers
of the petticoats
below the pounds
of pearls
sewn meticulously
into the rich fabric
below the laces
of the corset
and the diamonds
on a chain
around your neck
like a collar
there is
something
