I go inside and start looking around and then I heard a voice.
"Hoo hoo."
I turn to see a man sitting behind the counter.
"Big summer blow out. Half off swimming suits, clogs, and a sun balm of my own invention, yah?" The man says
"Oh, great. For now, how about boots. Winter boots...and dresses? I asked him
"That would be in our winter department." He said gesturing to a section of the store
I looked to see that the winter department only contained one outfit, a pick ax, and a lonely pair of boots.
"Oh. Um, I was just wondering; has another young woman, the Queen perhaps, I don't know, passed through here?" I asked grabbing the clothes and boots and bringing them to the counter
"Only one crazy enough to be out in this storm is you, dear?" He replied
The front door suddenly blows open and in walks a man covered from head to toe in snow.
"You and this fellow.... Hoo hoo. Big summer blow out." Oaken's says to the man
The man walked up to me
"Carrots." He says
"Huh?" I asked since I couldn't understand him
"Behind you." He says
"Oh, right. Excuse me." I tell him
I move out of the man's way. He grabs a bunch of carrots, tosses them on the counter, then moves through the place, gathering other supplies.
"A real howler in July, yah? Where ever could it be coming from?" Oaken's asked
"The North Mountain." The man replied
"North Mountain." I whispered to myself
"That'll be forty." Oaken tells him
"Forty? No, ten." The man tells Oaken
"Oh dear, that's no good. See these are from our winter stock, where supply and demand have a big problem." Oaken's said
"You want to talk about a supply and demand problem? I sell ice for a living." The man said gesturing out the window to the sled with blocks of ice on the back. "Now, back up while I deal with this crook here."
"What did you call me?" Oaken's asked
Oaken threw the man out and then I bought my stuff and his. I changed my clothes and then went to find the man.
