Chapter 21...Turkey
(Dawson's P.O.V.)
Boy's Night taught me a very valuable lesson. That lesson being, don't lie to your wife. Danielle made my life a living hell the next day. She knew I had a killer hangover, and instead of letting me sleep it off like a good wife, she let me wake up to the tiny shrills of our kids and the barks of the dogs. I'm pretty sure she let the dogs get on the bed before I got home because I woke up sick again.
But other than the killer headache, and not being able to breathe through my nose it wasn't that bad. Though one of my ears is still ringing from Sadie's squeals.
I walked into the living room and Sadie was trying to teach Dixie to catch the dog food Sadie threw at her.
"Sadie are you making a mess?" I asked softly.
She dropped the dog food from her shirt, and it went all over the floor. "How did that get there?" She stated looking up at me like it fell from the sky. "Dixie bad doggy!"
She was a horrible liar, but I had to give the kid credit. "Sadie pick up the dog food before Shane tries to eat it," I ordered.
"Too late," Sadie stated pointing at Shane.
"Where is your mother?" I asked annoyed. I couldn't find her anywhere.
"She left a note on the counter," Hudson replied looking up from his morning cartoons and cereal.
I looked on the counter, and the note read:
Going for mani pedi's with Abby and Rebecca for a Girl's Day. Have fun with the kids. Love Danielle.
Just then Ross woke up crying.
(Danielle's P.O.V.)
I felt a little guilty leaving Dawson with the kids when he had a hangover, but he deserved it. He lied about being sick, and then went off and got drunk with the boys.
Well now I was going off to relax with the girls.
"Thanks Dani for asking us for a Girl's Day. This is just what I needed," Abby stated.
"Amen to that Sister!" Rebecca quipped. "I love my kids but even I need a break sometimes."
"Well today is all about us," I laughed as we walked into the salon.
It was very peaceful, and I got a French Tip manicure with coral pink toes. It looked very nice. I didn't even care that they would probably be messed up in a week. It was the time to bond with my sisters and that's all that mattered.
After the nail salon we went to lunch because we just weren't ready to go home yet.
"We need to do this more often," Rebecca stated smiling from ear to ear.
"I totally agree," Abby commented. "Ladies what are we going to order?"
"I think we deserve carbs, go big or go home right Girls?" I cheered.
"Right!" They chorused and then we ordered a very large and greasy pizza.
(Dawson's P.O.V.)
When Danielle got home I had put the kids down for their nap, and Hudson was over at Adam's house.
"Wow, the house is so clean!" Danielle stated coming to sit by me. "Thanks Baby. How's your head?"
"Honestly I cringe every time someone speaks over a whisper, but it will be okay," I replied smiling at Danielle.
"Awe, you want me to kiss it better?" She asked kissing my neck. I liked where this was going a lot. "How long have the kids been asleep?"
"Um ten minutes, because I put the laundry in right after I put them to sleep," I stated.
"You did the laundry too?" She asked shocked. I just nodded my head.
Right then she jumped up from the couch and grabbed my hand. I reached for it and she lead me toward the bedroom.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Candy now!" She squealed, and I did not object.
(Danielle's P.O.V.)
The next week I was getting ready for thanksgiving when I ran into Victoria at the grocery store. She was glowing.
"Hey girl how are you doing?" I asked. I mean I still saw her at school, but with our busy schedules we still didn't see much of each other.
"I'm pregnant!" She stated smiling from ear to ear. I truly don't think I've ever seen the woman this happy. It looked really good on her.
"Victoria I'm so happy for you," I smiled. Maybe she was finally moving on with her life.
"Well I couldn't have done it without you. Really Danielle thank you," she stated. I knew that for the first time Victoria truly meant her kind words.
"Well it was good to see you," I commented then continued my grocery shopping.
When we got to Dawson's parents house the driveway was full of cars. We were always the last people to get anywhere. I got that from my mother's side of the family.
"Danielle Ross spit up in your hair," Dawson stated from behind me.
"Ross, my man that is no way to treat your mother," I stated. "Take the casserole and the kids inside I'm going to the bathroom to clean Ross and I up."
I sat Ross on the counter and began to clean my hair. Baby puke was no big deal, I was just glad it didn't get on my dress. After I got it all out of my hair, I cleaned off Ross's shirt and up on his bib incase he did it again.
"Next time it won't get on your pretty shirt," I stated picking him up. "Come on big boy let's go eat some turkey."
"Key," he agreed clapping his hands. Ross hand't really talked yet, but he could mimic small sounds.
The dinner itself was a little boring, but it was nice to be around the family. Dawson keep rubbing my thigh under the table. It made me blush, and feel like a little school girl. I just think it was his mischievous side showing through. I mean before I married him he was very much a bad boy. I guess you could say I tamed him.
(Dawson's P.O.V.)
After dinner we all watched the ballgame. Danielle was cuddled with me on the couch, and we couldn't help but laugh as we watched Natalie and Ross entertain us.
Natalie pretended to be a cheerleader and would do a roll and wave her hands when either team scored. Ross just grunted really loud.
"Ross I agree with you buddy," Damien said as he scooped him up off the floor and played with him.
"Damien be careful he's been having some tummy problems," Danielle stated.
"Oh he'll be fine," Damien stated as he got down on the ground and started moving Ross like he was an airplane. Ross giggled to high heavens. "See he loves it!"
I was thinking just wait till he gets dizzy. Which didn't take long.
"Oh man, he spit up on me!" Damien cried. "Not cool little dude."
"Damien we warned you," Danielle laughed. "Hand him here I'll go clean him up."
Danielle took the crying Ross to clean him up. Meanwhile Sadie came running up to me.
"Where's the fire sweetheart?" I asked.
"Well, Brently and Hudson got their heads stuck in the stairs," she whispered.
"They what?" I shouted as I got up to investigate. Sure enough I saw Brently and Hudson's little heads sticking out from the banister grinning.
"Hudson, Brently, what are you too doing?" I asked trying not to laugh.
"Oh you know, just hanging," Hudson stated.
Hanging my foot.
"Need some help Bud?" I asked.
"Yes please," he sighed.
Hudson and Brently were way more entertaining than the game. Bless their little hearts we almost had to break the banister to get them out. An hour later with a lot of butter Brent and I finally got Brently and Hudson's heads safely freed from the banister. Parenthood is never boring that was for sure.
"Dawson I think it's time to take the little ones and put them in bed," Danielle stated as she carried a sleeping Ross in his carrier, and sleepy Sadie on her hip.
"Okay let me say goodbye, and we'll leave," I stated kissing her forehead.
When all my goodbyes were said I made my way to the van, all of the kids were asleep. Even the one with his neck covered in butter.
"This is fun isn't it?" I stated smiling at Danielle.
"What is?" She asked.
"Being parents," I replied starting the car.
"Yeah," she smiled then we went home.
