As I walked down the hall to the office I could feel the nervousness wash over me.
I wondered if I should text back now since I was leaving school but I decided it was best to talk to ma first.
When I arrived in the office I walked up to the office desk and signed myself out.
I said goodbye to the office lady, Mrs.Carley and a girl in my class before walking out the office door.
I expected my mom to be the one who picked me up early but instead was my auntie Ree.
"Heyy Tee Tee," I said with confusion in my voice as I opened the passengers side door and climbed in.
"Hey Genie, how was school?"
"It was okay." I said quietly as I threw my backpack in the back and buckled myself in.
"Um Tee Tee?"
"Yes?" Auntie Ree said as she drove out the school parking lot.
"Why did you come and pick me up early?"
"Your mom called and asked and I was in the area so I came and got you."
I nodded my head as I listened to music on the radio.
"Also, when she had called and asked it sounded serious," She added making my feel even more nervous.
"Oh," I said dryly looking out of the window, "Are we going to go pick up Aubrey?"
"No," Auntie Ree said getting on the freeway, "I think this conversation is for the grown folks."
A few minutes later we arrived at my house and I took a couple deep breaths before exiting the car.
I opened the cars back door then grabbing my backpack before asking, "Are you coming in?"
"No I have to go run some errands for my shop but I can come back later."
"Oh okay, bye auntie." I said getting in the back of the car to hug her and then walking my way to the front door.
I started to slowly unlock the door but then I decided to just wait and I took the key out the lock and sat down on the porch.
I unlocked my phone and looked at the message take deep breaths each time I read it.
"Genie what the hell pull yourself together," I mumbled before standing up and unlocking the door.
I walked in the house and heard faint voices coming from down the hall.
I took off my backpack and went towards the den where I could hear the voices coming from.
When I walked into the room I saw my mom who looked like she'd been crying and I saw someone who I thought I would never see for a very long time.
My brother.
They both turned to acknowledge me
I locked eyes with my mom before turning my attention back to look at my older brother.
I sat down on the floor too in shock to even say anything.
It was one thing to get a text from him but to see him in person, that was just a whole nother level of nerve racking.
"Where were you?"
Those were the only words I could manage to get out.
"I went to Mobile," he said quietly taking a seat on the couch, "I just been chilling there for the most part."
My mom put her hand on her face and sighed in what seemed like a combination of frustration and anger.
"I have to call granny I'll be back." She said weakly before wiping her eyes and walking towards her room.
After she left the den the room was completely quiet and I tried so hard to just say something but nothing would come out.
"Im sorry Genie." He said and we sat there for a moment.
Too caught up in our own thoughts I guess.
"Sis you gotta understand I was just going through my own shit, I mean that doesn't make it right but damn I was hurting man."
After realizing I wasn't going to respond he left the den as well.

As soon as the bell rung I got my shit and was out of that hoe.
"Bye Pooter," a familiar voice said and I turned around and saw Kyra standing by school entrance with Yani and some other people.
I mean mugged her before walking over there and tryna see what she was on.
"So...." I started, looking down at her.
"Give me a hug," she said smirking as she came and wrapped her arms around me.
"Uh uh lemme go," I said taking her arms off me, "You be playing bruh."
"Boy bye for your information me and my nigga back together," She cheesed playfully pushing me.
"Fuck that nigga." I replied knowing it would aggravate her.
"Boy fuck you dont do that."
A text message notification popped up on my phone and I checked it, glad that I still had that one girl car, Faith I think?
"Aye ya I gotta go but I'll see ya later at the party," I said giving Kyra a hug.
"She canceled the party." Yani said as I went and gave her a hug as well.
"Oh forreal?"
"Yeah she said she gone have it tomorrow night."
"Yeah so you gone come?" Kyra asked.
"Why you asking? I thought yo baldheaded ass was bood up and shit."
She smacked her lips stuck up her middle fingers at me.
"Im not asking for me. Im asking for Kayla."
"Of course I'ma slide if my best coming," I said smiling, "But I really gotta dip see ya jits tmr."
I then walked over to the car and made my way to go met up with the boys and Boosie in West-ridge.
