Sean MacGuire X Female Reader

Summary: Needing to find some shelter from the rain, you stumble across a little cabin and a friendly Irishman who had made the place his temporary home. His reliable leads encouraged you to visit again, but neither of you could deny that you had hit it off.

(Set in the Online gameplay)

Word Count: 3600

You cursed to yourself when the rain started, all while you weren't near anywhere to take shelter and you would be soaked if you didn't find somewhere soon. Continuing to ride in the hopes to find somewhere suitable, you finally spotted a little cabin up a head. As you got closer you noticed that it looked pretty abandoned, didn't look like anyone had been living in it for a while. Thankfully.

You took your horse around the back of the cabin so that the poor thing wasn't too exposed to the bad weather, and just in case anyone came snooping around, before heading into the little wooden building.

As you looked around the small space, you muttered incoherently to yourself. It looked like somebody had already beaten you here and had been staying here. Knowing that you should probably leave before they returned, you turned around just in time to see a red headed man walking past the window.

"Shit" you cursed to yourself, hoping that he wasn't the trigger happy type. Taking a few steps back, you put some distance between you and the front door.

The man was whistling to himself as he pushed the door open with his shoulder and stepped inside the cabin, not spotting you until he turned around.

"What the fuck, buddy?" the man exclaimed in a thick Irish accent as he dropped his crate of drinks and upholstered his gun.

"Whoa, whoa, I ain't here for trouble" you held your hands up to show him that you weren't holding any weapons.

"What the fuck do you want, eh? Wanna get yourself killed or something?" the man asked. You weren't about to tell him this, since he was holding a gun at you, but he wasn't very threatening.

"I was just looking for a place to get outta the rain, didn't realise anyone was staying here until I was inside...then you showed up" you explained yourself calmly.

"I don't like getting surprised" the man told you.

"Who does?" you asked with a small huff of amusement.

"Awfully calm for someone who has a gun pointed at them" he squinted at you suspiciously.

"You seem reasonable and I really ain't here to cause trouble. Let me past and I'll get outta your hair, alright?" you tried to reason with him.

"Alright...alright" the man nodded before stepping to the side, agreeing to let you go without a fight.

You nodded back at him before cautiously walking past him to the door, stopping as you reach for the handle. With a sigh, you turned back to the red headed man. "While I'm here, you don't happen to have any work for me, do ya?" you asked.

"Work?" the man tilted his head to the side curiously.

"Doesn't have to be legal, just gotta pay" you told him. "I won't hurt innocent folk though" you quickly added.

"Yeah, I don't like killin' innocent folk either. Gives me a real nasty feeling inside" the man nodded in understanding as he lowered his gun. "...alright, I ain't need nothin' from ya but I could point you in the right direction" he offered.

"That's be great. I'm Y/n by the way, Y/n L/n" you introduced yourself, holding you hand out to him.

"Sean MacGuire" he told you his name as he holstered his gun and shook your hand. "Come on in then" he invited, gesturing around the room.

"Thanks" you smiled as you stepped away from the door and further into the cabin. The man who had just been holding a gun at you now seemed rather friendly.

"I know of some bastards, ain't innocent so ya don't have to worry about that. There's a stage, runs out of Aurora Basin. Now, I heard a fella say it's laden with silver. I can't rob it and I can't guarantee someone else isn't going to try...but it'd be a rotten shame to let it pass by" Sean informed you. "Ya think you can handle it?" he asked.

"Sure, I think I can manage" you nodded. It didn't seem too difficult, you would just be careful as always

"It's just you?" Sean asked curiously. He didn't even have the courage to hit the stage on his own, but here you were accepting the job with no hesitation.

"Pretty much, been running alone for a while" you shrugged. "If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing out here on your own?" you asked.

"Ah well...I've temporarily lost me friends, it's a fucking disaster. I had them. I went away for a couple of days on a killing of a...of a bastard I owed a killing to. And I lost the folk I ride with. A big bunch, not like you running around on your lonesome. Nah, we lived like sultans in our fucking tents. I'll find then again though, I've lost them before, ya know. Once was for three months, it was. That how it goes, I guess" Sean told you, amusing you a little.

"Sure, I guess" you nodded along. "Well, thanks for the lead, I'll check it out" you gave him a small smile before turning and heading for the door again. You opened the door just to be greeted with the pouring rain, you couldn't help but sigh.

"Hey, you can stay until the rain passes if ya want" Sean offered, making you look back at him over your shoulder.

"You sure?" you raised an eyebrow at him. He was a stranger and you could never be too sure.

"Yeah, haven't had company in a while" Sean nodded, giving you a friendly smile.

"Hmm...alright, as long as you don't try nothing" you joked as you closed the door again.

"Hey! I'll have you know that I'm a real gentleman...though I can't turn off the old MacGuire charm, so you better not pounce on me" Sean replied cockily, holding his arms out to his sides as you turned back to him properly.

"Oh how will I ever restrain myself?" you asked sarcastically.

"You're just going to have to try" Sean sighed dramatically, making you chuckle. "Help yourself to a drink, take seat, make yourself at home!" he welcomed you.

"Thanks, you're real generous" you hummed as you grabbed a drink and sat down on one of the wooden chairs.

The two of you sat and talked as you waited for the rain to pass. Sean told you some stuff about the the people he ran with but made sure to keep it understandably vague, not giving you any names but you understood that he was just being cautious. You were still strangers after all. And you told him a little about your time running along, expressing the pros and cons of it all. At some point, he had even offered you some food that you gladly accepted. It was strange but the two of you talked with ease, you guessed that you just hit it off.

But eventually the rain passed and you left to investigate the lead he had given you. Sean had waved you off with a bright smile but you didn't see the look on conflict that settled over his features once you were out of sight.

-----

It wasn't many days later that you found yourself knocking on the familiar cabin door, waiting for an answer. You heard some shuffling and the sound of something dropping to the floor followed by a string of curse words, before the door opened.

"Miss L/n! What do I owe the pleasure? Just couldn't stay away" Sean asked, a bright smile breaking out on his face when he saw you.

"I checked out the lead ya gave me, it was good. Was wondering if you had anymore" you explained, smiling back at him.

"Hmm, I dunno, come on in" Sean hummed before stepping to the side to let you inside. You stepped into the cabin and he closed the door behind you.

"Here" you placed some cash down on the table.

"What's that for?" Sean's brow furrowed in confusion as he walked over.

"The information and any new information you give me now" you told him as he picked up the wad of cash.

"Ah you don't have to do that" Sean shook his head but didn't waste any time in counting out the cash.

"Don't worry, it ain't even a fraction of the score but ya earned it" you assured him teasingly.

"How kind of ya" Sean rolled his eyes but pocketed the cash anyway. "You any good with bounties?" he asked.

"Sure, I've handled a few in the past" you nodded.

"Good" he walked past you, picking some paper out of his belongings. "Take this, I picked it up when I was in town" he told you as he held the wanted poster out to you.

"You ain't gonna take it yourself?" you asked as you took the poster.

"Nah, not really my thing" Sean shook his head.

"Then why take the poster?" you squinted at him.

"Uh..." Sean adverted his gaze, a light shade of red spreading over his face.

"Sean?" you questioned.

"Just grabbed it in case you came by looking for more work" he confessed, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.

"Oh...well, thank you. I appreciate it" you were surprised by his answer but grateful all the same.

"See, we ain't a bad team" Sean's usual cheerful demeanour returned.

"A team were you sit around here and I follow your leads?" you asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"It works" Sean shrugged.

"Sure it does" you chuckled. "Well, thank you, I'll find the bastard" you assured him as you tucked the poster into your satchel.

"You leavin' already?" Sean asked, hoping to mask his disappointment.

"Gotta find this guy but don't worry, I'll be back" you told him, patting your satchel.

"You will?" Sean asked, eyes lighting up again.

"If you have more leads, sure" you smirked slightly.

"If that's the way to your heart, miss, I'll find something for ya" Sean promised you confidently.

"You're a confident son of a bitch" you shook your head in disbelief.

"Eh, if you didn't like it you wouldn't still be here" Sean insisted with a smirk.

"Whatever you say, MacGuire" you waved dismissively as you disappeared out the door, leaving Sean grinning to himself.

-----

Ever since stumbling upon that cabin, you had gotten a few leads from Sean. Each time you visited, you stayed longer and longer just to talk to each other.

Once again, you walked into the cabin. It was late and it was raining so you weren't about to waist around outside until Sean let you in.

"Sean?" you asked as you closed the door behind you, shutting out the bad weather.

"Wha-who...Y/n?" Sean startled awake, shooting up on the bed and looking at you with wide eyes as he came back to reality.

"Hell, sorry, I didn't mean to wake you" you apologised, feeling genuinely bad for disturbing him but also trying not to laugh at his startled expression.

"No, no, it's alright. Come in. What's going on?" Sean reassured you as he climbed off of the bed, quickly straightening his clothes to make himself more presentable.

"I just finished checking out your latest lead, came to drop of some cash as payment" you explained.

"I told ya that you don't need to do that" Sean sighed, accepting the cash anyway.

"Yeah but I want too" you shrugged.

"Oh! Hold on" Sean's eyes widened as he apparently remembered something. "I got something that you're gonna love. Some shady fella in town told me about it, wrote it all down here for me" he rambled as he searched through his satchel, finally pulling a piece of paper out of it. "So, here ya go" he held it out to you.

"Thanks, I'll get out of your way and let you get some sleep" you chuckled before turning to leave.

"Whoa, hold on" Sean stopped you by gently grabbing your arm and turning you back to face him. "It's raining and it's dark out, you can stay here 'til morning" he offered but you just raised an eyebrow at him. "Don't look at me like that! Have I ever given you reason to doubt me? No funny business, I swear" he released your arm and placed his hand over his heart to show you that he was sincere.

"..alright, I'll stay" you gave in. It was definitely the best option you had.

"If you got a bedroll and stuff, you can set it up by the fire" Sean told you.

"Thanks" you smiled.

You hurried to grab your belongings from your horse before returning to the cabin, where you set up your bedroll on a clear spot on the floor. You hung up your wet coat and pulled off your boots before sitting down on your bedroll with a small huff.

"Still haven't found your friends?" you asked, breaking the silence.

"Nah but our paths will cross one way or another" Sean shrugged, sounding sure about it.

"Who are your mysterious friends anyway?" you asked curiously, looking up at him. He was sitting on the bed with his legs crossed under him.

"Ah, that's private knowledge" Sean teased.

"Oh come on, you trust me by now, right?" you batted your eyelashes at him playfully.

"...call ourselves the Van der Linde gang" Sean told you with a sigh. You were right, he did trust you. The two of you had spent enough time together and talked enough to have some sort of trust in each other.

"That sounds serious" you hummed, getting a little more curious.

"You ain't gonna go talking to the law, right?" Sean asked jokingly.

"Of course not! Honour among thieves and all that" you rolled your eyes.

"Thought it was that there was no honour among thieves?" Sean questioned.

"Pretty sure it's the first one...though plenty don't abide by it..." you trailed off. "Anyway, we're friends, right? I don't snitch on my friends" you promised him.

"Y'know, when I find them again, you could join us" Sean suggested, catching you off guard. If you had been drinking, you would have done a spit take.

"What?" you spluttered.

"Yeah, we can make the room and you and me can tear up the camp. Show them how it's done" Sean grinned.

"Thanks for the offer, Sean. Really, I appreciate it but...I dunno. I've just been running by myself for so long" you mumbled, rubbing the back of your neck.

"Why do you run by yourself?" Sean asked, his tone becoming much more serious.

"I used to run with a small group, just a bunch of young degenerates deciding to move together, you know?" you looked up at him and he nodded along, listening intently. "One of them sold us out, got one of us arrested and the other killed. I managed to get away and been running on my own ever since, didn't think it was worth the risk" you told him.

"What happened to the one who sold you all out?" he asked, invested in your story.

"I found him not too long after it all happened. Killed him" you confessed.

"Sounds like he deserved it" Sean shrugged, no judgement coming from him which you appreciated.

"He did...just don't want to have to go through all of that again" you explained and Sean nodded in understanding.

"We got some miserable asses running with us and even a bastard or two but we're loyal, we don't sell each other out no matter what. They're rules 'bout that sorta thing. It wouldn't be so bad..." Sean watched you hopefully, wanting to change your mind.

"I'll think about it" you promised him.

"You can't run on your own forever" Sean told you quietly.

"I know and I might change my mind. Like I said, I'll think about it" you gave him a reassuring smile that made him give up and accept that you wouldn't be giving him an answer tonight.

-----

That wasn't the last night you spent in the cabin with Sean. The two of you talking the night away, sometimes sharing an abundance of drinks, before passing out on your respective beds. You had grown fond of those moments and the Irishman.

You showed up at the cabin again and let yourself inside, something that you had become used to doing. Sean wasn't anywhere to be seen but his belongings were still scattered about so you assumed that he would be back soon.

With a heavy sigh you dropped down onto your back on Sean's bed, staring up at the ceiling. You heard the door open and close but didn't bother to look up.

"...you alright?" Sean raised an eyebrow at you, making you lift your head to look at him.

"Do I look alright?" you asked before dropping your head back down on the pillow.

"Not that I'm complaining about you being in my bed or anything..." Sean smiled to himself as he walked over to you. But you only turned your head to the side to glare at him. "I'm joking!" he defended himself, holding his hands up, making you laugh. "Seriously though, you alright? I haven't seen you in a while" his voice turned serious again.

"Yeah, sorry about that. The last job I was looking into went on way longer than I expected. It all went well but damn am I tired" you explained, assuring him that you were fine and nothing went wrong.

"Well, I would tell ya to make yourself comfortable but you've already done that" Sean joked.

You sighed before holding your hands out to him. Sean just laughed as he took your hands in his, pulling you up into a sitting position.

"Thanks" you murmured as you took off your satchel and jacket, dropping them off of the side of bed carelessly. "Can you do me a big favour?" you asked, looking up at him with a pleading expression.

"Sure" Sean nodded, honestly happy to help. Eager even.

"...can you take off my boots?" you asked.

"Can you not do that?" Sean raised an eyebrow, just playing with you now.

"There too far" you complained, lazily reaching your hands down to your feet but making no real effort.

"Fine. You're real lucky I like you" Sean teased.

"Yeah I know" you smiled up at him before flopping back down on the bed.

Sean laughed to himself and removed your boots without complain, placing them down on the floor at the bottom of the bed.

"Anything else I can do for you?" Sean asked sarcastically, though he really didn't mind. You smiled at him before shifting over on the bed, patting the space beside you. Sean's face lit up at the invitation and he was on the bed in an instant, laying beside you comfortably. "It was really that bad, huh?" he asked, turning his head to look at you.

"Just long and tiring. Barely got any sleep and everything just aches" you told him with a tired sigh.

"Get some sleep" Sean ordered gently. It was clear that you needed some proper rest, it made him wonder if you ever really got any rest when you were running around on your own.

"Will you stay?" you asked, turning your head to face him.

"'course" Sean smiled softly. How could he so no to that face?

You sighed as you rolled over, moving into his side. Sean smiled and wrapped an arm around you without hesitation, pulling you a little closer and letting you lay your head on his shoulder.

"I got you something" you told him quietly.

"You did? What?" Sean asked, his eyes widening slightly as he looked down at you.

"Found a real nice bottle of whiskey, thought you'd like it" you hummed.

"Thanks" Sean grinned to himself. How thoughtful of you. "We'll share it later" he promised you.

"Sounds good" you smiled sleepily against his shoulder.

"Walking in here like you own the place, claiming my bed as your own, getting me gifts. I'm beginning to think that ya like me" Sean teased, even though that's exactly what he was hoping for. Well, ideally he was hoping for you to take his face in your hands and tell his how head over heels in love with him you were but even he wasn't stupid enough to think that would actually happen.

"Maybe I do" you lifted your chin to look up at his face properly.

"Well do you? 'cause it's a real cruel joke if you don't" Sean questioned, attempting to joke as if that would hide his racing heart or the longing in his gaze.

You laughed softly before bringing your hand up to his cheek. "I do...a lot actually" you whispered, brushing your thumb over this cheek.

"I like ya too, Y/n" Sean confessed sincerely.

You both smiled before you lent up to press your lips to his. He instantly kissed you back, his over arm wrapping around your body to hold you close.

"But do you know what I like even more right now?" you whispered against his lips.

"What?" Sean whispered back.

"Sleep" you groaned as you buried your face into the crook of his neck.

Sean laughed but secured his arm around your waist. "Then sleep" he pressed a kiss to the top of your head, making you smile to yourself.

It wasn't at all long before you were sleeping, finally getting some well deserved rest. Sean couldn't sleep though, he was just too thrilled and awake by your little confession. Right now, he was content to just hold you. Eventually your steady breathing would lull him to sleep anyway.
