CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Nina's comment about being friends might have gotten to Oscar a little bit. Of course he didn't want to stay just friends. But his actions was just making Nina more confused with what she was feeling.

Their routine remained the same though Oscar was more touchy-feeling when it came to Nina. He'd sneak a kiss from here every now and then which didn't help Nina's feelings. However she seemed to be more tamed about them now unlike the last time.

If Oscar was intending to play a game with her then she intended on play such until she got tired. Maybe then she'll be tough enough to finally tell him how she felt.

"I thought you were closing up tonight?" Oscar asked Nina as she started gathering her stuff and bidding Berto farewell.

"I can't. I gotta watch the kids tonight," she explained slinging her bag over her shoulder. "V has a date tonight, I promised I would help her get ready."

The two walked over to the Impala and got in. "Has this been the same guy for the past few weeks?" He asked starting up the car.

"Thats what she tells me. Apparently his name is Andrew. He seems okay," she answered making Oscar laugh a little.

"Why the disinterest?"

"I don't know him enough. I just want him to treat my sister right, you know?"

"Mos def," he moves the hand break and they begin to drive off.

"What do you intend to do with the twins?" He asked moments later.

"You make it sound like I'm about murder them," Nina joked. "I don't know, those kids do the most random shit to keep them busy," she added recalling the time the twins put on entire puppet show version of the Lion King to entertain themselves. Mostly to entertain Nina.

"Y-you should come over tonight. If you're not busy," Nina suggested. "They can't stop talking about 'Mr. Spooky the guy across the street'" she laughed at the nickname and so did Oscar.

"Mr. Spooky makes me sound like a piregüero," he joked making Nina snort.

"You would think a guy named Mr. Spooky would be so badass."

"Hey, I am badass," he nodded.

"Says Spooky, the guy afraid of ghosts," Nina insulted with a giggle making Oscar snap his head toward her.

"What did you say?"

"Cesar tells me shit you don't gotta know about," Nina bit her lip suppressing another laugh.

Oscar did his best to keep his eyes on the road. He tore his eyes of Nina who seemed to be distracting him at the moment.

"That kid's dead to me."

"Hey, lay off Cesar man he's just a kid!"

Eventually they got home and Oscar told her that he would just drop by when he could. Considering that he still had some business to attend to. Though the said business didn't take long enough to complete with a few of the cholos and cholas hanging out on his front lawn like always.

Oscar watched as Nina was trying to do her sister's make up from across the street. He liked it when he saw her happy and laughing. He was beginning to notice how she would wear her hair up when she would be working. First it was with his car, then the baking incident, now her doing her sisters make up. Plus all the other times where he would catch her reading by her window.

"Hey Spooky," everyone turned their heads to Crystal who was walking towards them. She attempted to take a seat on his lap but he wasn't having it.

"Fool, what are you tryna do?" He sneered at her. Lowkey feeling a little panicked if Nina saw.

"What? You hit me up when you were in prison and then suddenly you've been avoiding me since you got out," Crystal placed her hands over his shoulders as she tried to seduce him. "Did I do something wrong, papi?" She asked with a pout.

Oscar glared at her removing her hands off him. "Don't touch me, puta!" He spat with aggression leaving Crystal's mouth agape with his actions.

"You've gotten tired of me. It's true then you've found a new bitch," Crystal smirked before turning to look across the street. "Is that her?" She pointed to Nina through the window.

"She ain't my bitch!" Oscar barked which made Crystal laugh.

"Oh but you like her. I can see it," she said pointing to his eyes. "Spooky, you're smart enough to know that she isn't your type. Since when did you go for innocent little girls like her huh?" She taunted him.

"And do you even think for a second she would go for someone like you?" She taunted him even further. The scowl on his face only made her more obligated to play with him a little further.

"Spooky, baby, she isn't the type to get freaky like you want. You get together with her and you'll only ruin her-"

Cállate!" Oscar stood up and towered over her height. "Get out of my face. We're done," he sneered inching closer to her face.

Crystal only smirked. "If you say so. If you wanna get freaky sometimes you know my number," she winked before walking away.

Nina witnessed the exchange from across the street. She recognized Oscar's ex and by the looks of their conversation, he wasn't happy. He would be dealing with that bull for a little while.

Hours pass and Nina was in the middle of making crepes for the kids. The twins wanted to help by decorating their food with their own syrups and spreads. They got a little wild with the whipped cream.

Lupe placed her dirty hands on her tía's face making her look like she had facial hair. Papito on the other hand couldn't stop laughing saying that he now had a tío instead of a tía.

"Doorbell!" The two of the yelled when the doorbell rang.

Nina sighed as she tried wiping off chocolate syrup from her face with her hand. But it only made things worse. She opened up the door to see Oscar and his strong expression. Only to be softened by Nina who looked like a complete idiot.

"Since when did you decide to grow facial hair?" Oscar asked cracking up a smile making Nina roll her eyes.

"Muy divertido," she answered sarcastically still attempting to remove the chocolate from her face.

"I got it," Oscar said before licking his thumb and wiping it across the stained area on her face.

"Ew! I don't want your spit on my face," Nina started wiping off his saliva. "Come in. They keep asking about you," she said making way for him to come in.

"Mr. Spooky!" The twins yelled before running over to Oscar and hugging his legs.

Oscar stood there in shock seeing the little children suddenly entrapping his legs. Nina just looked at him and laugh. A tall and buffed man had little humans trapping his legs made it look like a cartoon in her eyes.

"Hey lil' homies," he nodded while the two children stared at him in awe.

Arriba!" Lupe said while raising her hands implying that she wanted to be carried by Oscar. Oscar sighed but did so anyway making Lupe giggle. Nina smirked knowing that her niece was crushing on the cholo.

Tía! Lupe is stealing Mr. Spooky away!" Alex cried running over to Nina.

"Lupita, mi amor, share Mr. Spooky with your brother," Nina smiled running with the gag. Though when she said the nickname, Oscar only scowled.

"No!" Penelope pouted hugging Oscar by the neck making it hard for Nina not to coo at the situation. She was feeling all kinds of mushy with Oscar holding the kid yet somehow seemed clueless with what he was doing. It was adorable.

"No te preocupes, compa. Tengo tu espalda," Oscar nodded at Alex making Alex do the same to him.

"Beuno, compa," Alex nodded before Oscar gave him a fist bump.

"Papito, Lupe, finish your food," Nina reminded using a harder tone making the kids do as told.

"What are you making, mamas?" Oscar asked leaning on the counter top after he let go of Lupe so she could eat.

"Crepes," Nina answered simply ignoring the fluttering feeling in her chest.

"Sweet or savory?"

"Sweet of course," Nina answered with confidence.

"Tía makes the best desserts," Alex added man handling his nutella and banana crepe as he shoved it into his mouth. The way he ate it so messily made Oscar laugh as he reminded him of Cesar when he was little.

"Like those cookies she made a few days ago. Esos sabían bien," Penelope continued. "Except for the ones with raisins. Those were weird," her added comment made Nina giggle.

"But I made those," Oscar pouted while Nina turned to face him.

"I told you, no one likes raisins in their cookies here," Nina said shoving him a plate with crepe and mangoes. Cesar liked it when she made crepes for him and added the mangoes with chocolate. She figured she'd give Oscar the same.

"I changed your mind," he pointed out looking at the food before him. Damn, she does know what she's doing.

"Yea," she shrugged leaning against the counter. "But they're tougher to please," she winked referring to the kids.

Oscar took a bite of his food and held back the moan. These kids weren't kidding when they said she made the best desserts. Unfortunate for him, he wasn't able to taste the cookies she made from the other day. But he trusted that they were just as good as this crepe.

Nina made herself a strawberry crepe but before she could even start the kids were already finished with what they were eating. She tells them to wash up so they could all watch a movie before she could put them to bed. The kids ran towards their room and began fighting over the bathroom while she decided to clean things up.

"Eat. I'll do the dishes," Oscar volunteered while Nina only nodded and said her thanks.

"I saw your ex drop by this afternoon," Nina blurted in the middle of her meal. "Everything okay between you two? You seemed pretty pissed."

Damn, she saw that. "Don't worry about it," he replied. "Crystal is the least of your problems, Nina."

Nina shrugged. "I didn't say she was. I just wanted to know if you two were okay."

"'You two'? There is no me and Crystal."

Good to know he was available. Though she still hadn't understood the game he was trying to play. "So, you're good?" She asked reaching over for another strawberry and dipping it in the chocolate sauce she made.

"Like I said, don't worry about it," Oscar said as he watched Nina eat the fruit. She was just eating, how the hell was that so sexy? "I never really pegged you as a strawberry person," he blinked snapping himself out of his staring.

"I have my days," she said getting another strawberry and dipping it into the chocolate before handing it to Oscar.

"Here," Oscar didn't take it at first. "Come on, Spooky. Don't make me feed you," she teased the same way he did her dirty the last time.

Oscar smirked before grabbing her wrist, forcing her to feed him. Nina's heart felt like it was on a rollercoaster. The tension between them became thick until her niece called for help with getting dressed. She quickly excuses her as Oscar takes her plate and washes it in the sink.

It took awhile for Nina to calm herself down. The twins were of help to get her mind off things. Not long later, the three of them emerged from their room to see Oscar chilling on the couch using his phone. The twins decided to watch Hercules.

Nina had to entertain the kids while singing along to the songs and dancing a little bit. Oscar would watch her but she continued without a care. Honestly, she felt more comfortable being more goofy around him. Every time she would goof off like this and it took awhile for her to no longer give a shit.

Penelope kept telling Nina to sing along with Meg during her performance of I Won't Say I'm in Love. Nina kept laughing in her head given that the song has never been more accurate up until this moment with Oscar just mere meters away from her. Though she was hesitant with Oscar just sitting there, she sang along anyway.

It was that moment where Oscar found out that she knew how to sing. With that, he had found more reasons to like her. She was smart, funny, talented, all around sexy even in the least expecting moments. But his thoughts went back to his conversation with Crystal. His ex's words were beginning to get to him.

By the time the movie ended the twins barely had their eyes open. They were yawning and could barely stay up any longer. Nina excused herself to take the kids to bed and Oscar ended up helping. Nina blushed at the idea of how Oscar was good with the kids.

After that he made his way to the bathroom right next to the twin's room. Oscar didn't take long since he just needed to pee but he couldn't help but overhear their conversation.

"I like Mr. Spooky. He seems really cool," he heard Alex say.

"Really? You don't think he's scary?" Nina asked.

"No. He's cool. Do you think he's scary, tía?" Alex asked.

"You guys could just call him Oscar. And no, I don't find him scary either."

"You don't have a crush on him, do you tía? Cos I like him," Oscar could hear Penelope pouting.

"He's all yours, Lupita," Nina giggled. "Mira, I need to get back to Mr. Spooky I don't want to leave him-"

"Can you sing for us?" Penelope asked sweetly.

"But I just sang the entire movie with you, baby."

"Please! We won't tell mama you let us have dessert for dinner," Alex reasoned making Nina give in.

"Alright then. What do you want me to sing?"

"Anything!" they said in unison and Oscar continued to listen in knowing that he liked the sound of Nina's voice.

"There's a song that's inside of my soul. It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again," she began. Oscar believed it was that song from one of the Nicholas Sparks movies the other girls would go crazy for.

As Nina continued singing Oscar may have started to fall in love with her right then and there. Love was a big word to use and he hadn't really known about it until now. It had only been over a month now but he found himself caring for Nina so deeply. But with Crystal's words lingering in his mind he didn't know what to do.

He wanted to protect Nina from everything. Even if that meant protecting her from himself. He was dangerous, a killer, a violent man, and everything else that Nina didn't deserve. But he couldn't help these feelings that were taking over.

Not long later Nina was finished singing and she shut the door behind her suddenly bumping into Oscar in the hallway causing her to jump. "Dios mío, Oscar you scared me-"

Oscar grabbed her face with both hands to kiss her. He gently pins her against the wall of the hallway as their legs were tangled between each other. Nina found herself kissing him back but she couldn't help but feel that warm and heavy feeling in her chest having him this close.

Nina was feeling hot and bothered. Though there was this pain in her chest thinking how Oscar could just be playing her again. She couldn't fall for him. She shouldn't.

"Tus labios saben dulces," he whispered before tasting her lips again.

"Probably the strawberries," she muttered in between kisses.

"So fucking good," he rasped sending Nina over the edge as well.

Fuck these feelings, Nina thought to herself as she dragged her nails down Oscar's nape and over the fabric of his tank top. Oscar groans as his hands travel down to her thighs to pick her up.

Nina does so and wraps her legs around his waist. They begin to grind into each other. Oscar starts to kiss Nina's neck and slowly biting down making her bite her lip to hold back the moan. Oscar's shorts feel a little tighter as Nina begins to go crazy with her hips.

"Boys can suck it! I've had enough with men! I swear to God!"

"Oh for fucks sake," Nina grumbles pushing Oscar away as he gently sets her on the ground getting annoyed too. Nina loved her sister but lately she's been such a cock blocker.

"Nina! You better not me asleep!" Victoria called.

"Oscar I am so sorry," she whispered but he simply stayed silent and nodded. She hung her head in shame and left him hot and bothered in the hallway.

"V!" Nina called after her sister who was already looking for a drink. She was already crying. "Alex and Penelope are asleep. Sweetie what happened?"

"He has a wife. A fucking wife," she cried as Nina cradled her in her arms. "That's probably the last time I'm dating men I meet at the Daycare lo juro por Dios," Victoria continued crying as Oscar slowly emerged from the hallway.

Victoria took notice of him and Nina could only feel guilty. "I'm sorry," she mouthed over to him.

He said nothing offering Nina a simple nod before showing his way out.

Maybe it really was a sign. That no matter how much he wanted her. He couldn't have her. She was too good for him.
