A Poet's Night

silly worn wellies

De NadineMcgee

silly worn wellies
arriving to the house in a cardboard box
worth as many as three peices of paper

drowning, soaking and sinking to rescue the girl
to rescue the girl from the cold and biting winter
which steals and swipes health and warmth

victumising themselves, sacrificing themselves

they splashed through puddles,
surrounded by giggles
worn, hit, scratched, wounded, broken,

they watched a girl grow to womanhood
her faith unwavering
through school, collage, worries and woes
they stood underneath her.

It was when they gave up when she wanted them most.
a special peice of her childhood is lost.
those special, worn wellies,
her playtime copanions
years of support
with no special appearance to boast
the simplist accessory makes all the difference

she got a cold that year,
as she lay in bed she wondered
how had she ever got there
then she remembered
those silly worn wellies
gifting her with a smile
as she thought of the memories
