The sunlight stung in her eyes as her alarm blared in her ears.
Groaning, she hit the snooze button on her phone.
"I don't understand why you do this."
"Because I like to actually help my students, Kai."
"You don't get paid to give students extra help and attention."
"You're right. I don't get paid to do it, but it is something I want and like to do. Money doesn't have to be involved in order for me to want to help people who need it."
"Why are you always so standoffish towards me, Jennie?"
"For the same reason that you are an ass to me."
"I have done nothing but treat you like a queen."
"Sure you have, Kai."
"You're going to learn to treat me better."
"Are you talking to yourself? I know for sure that wasn't directed at me."
"What have I ever done to you, Jennie Kim?"
"The better question would be what have you not done to me. You're a drunk that treats me like I am just something for you to play with when you feel like it!"
"I didn't hear you complaining all those years ago!"
"You of all people do not have the right to talk about those times!"
"The last time I checked, you were the cheater."
"The last time I checked, you were the one who tried to lure a happy girl out of her loving relationship. You were the one who put those thoughts in my head, Kai! You were the one who convinced me that y/n and I would never last. You were the one that told me that I wasn't good enough for her/him!"
"But you were the idiot who listened to me."
"I was a young, naive girl who was very insecure about myself! You knew that everything you said to me would go straight to my head! I was happy, Kai! You were the one edged me on!"
"I am still not the one who cheated."
"I didn't say that I shouldn't take accountability for my actions! I am simply saying that I am not the only person who had a hand in the cheating. You should be responsible for your actions just as much as I have been."
"Okay, Jennie," he said, getting out of bed. "I'm not going to sit here and fight with you over some stupid crush you had in high school."
"It wasn't just some stupid crush! I love y/n!"
With Jennie's words came a hard fist to her eye.
"I told you that I didn't want to talk about it!"
She sat holding her face softly crying into her hands.
"I don't want to hear anything else about y/n! Now, go get ready for this stupid lesson of yours. We're going to meet a group of my friends later."

With Fall quickly approaching, the breezes became slightly cooler.
Walking into the courtyard, you saw Jennie sitting with her head down on the table.
"Hey," you said, tapping her shoulder.
She slightly jumped at the touch before lifting her head. You had expected to be met with deep brown eyes, but were unexpectedly met with sunglasses.
You were met with confusion considering that earlier in the day the skies were consumed with thick clouds.
"Fashion statement," she said smiling.
"Gotcha," you said, sitting across from her on the concrete fixture. "So what's today's assignment?"
"If I'm being honest, I don't really have one. My original plan was to get you to write me a short summary describing the beautiful things that you saw in nature today. I was going to assess where we are at in your learning, but the weather seemed to turn out more gloomy than I imagined."
"I can still write something."
"What exactly did you have in mind?"
"I'll surprise you," you said, smiling.
"Okay then! I'll give you 30 minutes to get down whatever you can."

"Stop."
After doing a quick check over your work, you slid your paper across the table.
"Let's see how you did."
'Eyes. They will tell you a story that words could never describe. Looking into someone's eyes will tell you the whole story. A detail can be heard, but it is never truly felt until looking into one's eyes. Eyes will tell you pain. Eyes will tell you a person's whole life story with just one longing look. Connections with people you've never talked to can be felt with just one look. Even so, they are rarely recognized for this. People tend to only be able to see the color of one's irises. Beauty in words can only take a person so far, but understanding a look can allow one to feel everything.'
"Wow, y/n."
"You like it? I didn't really like the way it didn't flow too well."
"It's really good, y/n."
Without thinking, Jennie subconsciously moved her sunglasses to rest atop her head.
"Wha-"
"Hm," she said, turning to you.
"Jennie, what happened to you?!"
"What do you mean?"
"Your eye, Jennie! It's swollen and red!"
"Oh that! It's nothing. I was getting ready this morning and slipped and hit my eye on a doorknob."
"Is that what happened to your wrist too?"
"I didn't do anything to my wrist."
You slid around to sit beside her on the bench as she eyed you skeptically.
Without warning, you gently gripped her wrist. As you did so, she immediately hissed in pain while protectively pulling her wrist away from your grasp.
"Did you hit that on a doorknob too?"
"Possibly..."
"Are you going to tell me what really happened?"
"I did."
"You didn't. You are lying."
"I would know when I am lying, y/n. I am not lying."
"You are. I know you are because when you lie you do the same repetitive action."
"What would that be?"
"I'm not going to tell you. If I tell you what it is, you're going to stop doing it. Then I won't be able to tell when you are lying anymore. Now, tell me what happened."
"I thought you said you needed time."
"Don't try to distract me from asking what happened to you. I did say that, but I'm just asking what happened to you right now."
"I really am telling you the truth about my eye, y/n."
You knew she was lying, but you went along with it seeing that she wouldn't give up any time soon.
"So, what happened to your wrist?"
"I accidentally fell asleep on it the other night."
"Okay, Jennie. If those are the stories that you're sticking with..."
"I am because those are the true stories."
"Okay."
"Stop it!"
"Okay okay! I surrender."
"Good."
"So, what else do you have planned for today?"
"Nothing else for today. I will take a deeper look at your paper and assess what other assignments I need to make up for you."
"Okay then. I should get going. There's a Law and Order: Special Victims Unit marathon on!"
"Really?!"
"Yeah. They are running old episodes all day until next Saturday!"
"I need to get back myself then."
"I'm surprised that you didn't hear about it. I know you like the show."
"I was not the only superfan, y/n."
"I was not a superfan. I just watched the show when I didn't see anything else to watch."
"Mhm. I'll let you believe that."
"Because it's true."
"Right."
"Goodbye, Ms. Kim."
"See you Monday, Ms./Mr. l/n!
