As expected, the national government agency withdrew the 'probing' that they gave me.
Within two days, they made the probing request void and insisted that it was only a systematic mistake on their part.
It's laughable, really.
How could it be a mistake when they sent the probing request straight to my office? In actuality, they even disclosed that matter to the media first before it even got to me.
They're obviously trying to save face, because the whole thing backfired on them.
Actually, when Millen mentioned before that she overheard that the national government had a plan like this, I brought up the situation to my political advisors.
With their collective wisdom, we have examined the possible outcomes if the national government eventually proceeds with their plan.
From our analysis, we figured that the a lot of people expressed their dissatisfaction on the way that the national government handled the typhoon calamity. Many were not given compensation and there are still a lot of people who haven't recovered from that yet.
In that crisis, a large majority have figured who are the ones that are truly competent and who are not.
I do not think that I deserve the commendation that the public is giving me since I was just doing my job. Nevertheless, I am flattered. In fact, my political advisors considered this variable the most.
"If they proceed with a plan of tarnishing your reputation by falsely accusing you of charges or other ridiculous reasons, I am sure that a larger part of the public will sympathise with you." one of the political advisors said.
"Indeed. Additionally, since the people are already dissatisfied with the way they handled the crisis, them probing you for no justified reason will only ignite the citizens' anger towards them. Perhaps, it will really be a turning point for most, to be vocal and stop turning a blind eye to incompetence." another one stated.
It's not easy to change things overnight but I believe that the probing incident was a step towards that...
At least, from that, the people are assured that their voices could be heard. That, they could grieve and express their concerns when the national government is reeking of injustice.
Also, due to the clamour that the incident created, more and more are opening their perspective in politics.
After all, politics is not an isolated, abstract concept that only matters during election time.
Somebody's politics is their world view - whether they think certain human beings deserve rights and how they think the world should be.
I want to believe that someday, there would really be a new system in this country.
One step at a time.
Even if just one citizen got enlightened from the clamour that it created, I reckon that there is hope...
While reading the new policies in front of me, I suddenly felt my eyes closing, pulling me into a doze. Somehow, I feel like there's an invisible force behind it.
Within a peculiar dream, I felt like I was watching a movie.
The surroundings were very vivid and although I was inside the movie, no one could see or hear me, as if my only purpose was to be a bystander.
Suddenly, I saw a petite girl with curly brown hair and hazel-green eyes.
I shivered instantly upon looking at her, since she evokes familiar feelings within me. Why am I seeing this person?
Like a movie, I am seeing scenes of that person's life.
"Sis! Did you eat yet?" that girl asked someone in a warm tone.
Wait, the person she is talking to in the scene right now looked familiar. Isn't that Zaynah? Millen's friend?
Instantly, the scene changed quickly into that girl going to a hospital, doing research work in a lab and another scene where she looked longingly to another familiar person.
"Mum, I brought you your favourite wine." that girl cheerfully said.
Dr. Rose Ferrada only nodded at her coldly and didn't bother looking at what the girl brought. She walked pass her, leaving the girl with a dejected expression.
So, the girl must be Dr. Rose Ferrada's daughter and Zaynah's sister?
Then, why I am seeing this girl on my dreams? What relations do I even have with her? It's like I'm peeking into remnants of her life.
Even though I was a bit disastified, I continued watching and the scene shifted into her riding an airplane.
Suddenly though, that plane crashed...
That girl, she died?
Before I could even react properly, the scene changed once again and showed that girl in a dark place. Then, a strange looking man with a ridiculous, bright red hair started talking to her.
Unlike the other scenes, I could not hear what conversation they had. The two looked very serious, anyhow.
Once again, the scene transitioned quickly.
But now, I am completely perplexed at what I saw. Why is this dream so random?
Now, it is showing me a scene of Millen who was lying on a bed, unconscious.
I could not help but glare when I saw a sinister-looking Julienna Carpio looking at her.
Why am I seeing this kind of scene? I only feel surge of anger whenever I see that Julienna Carpio.
It's also very weird how this dream looked very real, since I feel conscious and I could even have thoughts.
Out of the sudden, the soul of that girl suddenly appeared on the room...
I could somehow tell that it was just that girl's soul, since she looked different from those who had bodies. Besides, there was a glowing light surrounding her...
Is this how souls supposed to look like?
I observed that girl's soul and oddly, she had her eyes closed. I don't think she was conscious and as if she was fuelled by some unknown force, she walked over to Millen's body and occupied it...
I immediately widened my eyes at the sight, not believing what I saw.
Could something like that be really possible!?
I rubbed my eyes and opened them once again, just to see if what I saw was real.
I refocused myself and clearly, after that soul occupied Millen's body, the unconscious Millen suddenly opened her eyes...
It was that soul that was inside Millen's body, I'm sure...
What...
Before I could even watch the rest of the scenes play out, my dream ended, just like that.
When I woke up though, I was still bewildered.
Was that a dream?
Or, was I seeing a fragment of reality?
Really... what in the world was that?
I checked my watch on instinct and found that I only had a nap for 5 minutes. However, that dream felt very, very long. In an essence, I feel like I watched someone else's lifetime.
It was very difficult to contemplate on, since I am not someone who necessarily believes in supernatural things.
Someone's soul entering a body, huh...
If I were to think about it, maybe it does make sense a little?
I only started to notice that woman a bit later on, although I was already aware of her existence during gatherings. I only started getting attracted to her to the point where I can't help myself after some time passed...
Now, if I base it from what I hear, they say that she was a different person before, when she was 'younger'...
But then... could a person really change that drastically?
Besides, there was the mannerisms and posture that the girl in the dream had as well. At first, yes, she was not familiar due to her face. However, when I saw her posture and the little mannerisms she had, she reminds me of a certain person...
In addition, how can I miss that girl's connection to Dr. Rose Ferrada and Zaynah? A certain someone I know holds a sentimental attachment to them...
That girl and a certain someone also shares the same career and have the same passion for it.
Hmm...
I had to take deep breath and close my eyes, absorbing everything that I'm analysing.
When I opened my eyes again, I massaged my temples a little.
I actually cannot believe that I am even pondering about this, just because of a bizarre dream...
I could easily ignore it, but my heart is telling me otherwise. There is something telling me that in fact, the dream that I saw was somehow real.
If that is the case, even though I don't believe in phenomenons, I guess I'll throw all my rationality out.
After all, I do not have rationality when it comes to her.
Even though I do not exactly understand it, it doesn't really matter.
My love for that woman goes beyond skin deep. I do not love her just because of her name, her body, or any other mundane things.
Actually, you don't even fall in love with a face, right? In reality, you truly fall in love with a soul.
