Ending up back in time is overwhelming, which is a huge understatement, and sometimes you don't know how to feel about it. Sometimes you feel like life is simpler, other times you think it's more difficult.
Now you live in 1899 and are a part of a gang of outlaws, the Van der Linde gang. You commit crimes to live but, hey, at least you aren't in debt.
The camp by itself wasn't that overwhelming to you. If you felt like getting some peace and quite, you usually could find somewhere to sit and just be by yourself for a little while. But, sometimes, it just wasn't enough.
Sometimes you needed to get away from everything, to find somewhere you could just sit and do one of two things. Think about everything or forget about everything.
That was how you came across a little lake that ran not too far away from the camp. It was close enough for you to feel safe but far enough to know that you were alone and had privacy. Now, it was where you came when you just had to sit by yourself.
You walked out to the lake once the gang started settling down for the night and sat down beside the water. Letting out a soft sigh, you tilted your head back to look up at the stars. That was something you loved about where you lived now, being able to see the night sky so clearly, you loved it. You turned your attention back to the water, tonight was a night that you didn't want to think about much.
Instead, you started to hum a familiar tune. A tune that you remember from your time, something a friend of yours used to play.

Javier frowned to himself when he saw you disappear from the camp, walking out without telling anyone where you were going. He had noticed you do that a few times, admittedly he had noticed a lot about you.
Ever since you joined the gang, Javier had been interested in you, even before you told them that you were from the future. Tonight, he decided that he would find out where you disappeared to and make sure you were alright, he didn't want you to be wandering off because you were upset and then not receiving any comfort.
The camp had settled down for the night so Javier stood from the campfire and walked out of the camp without anyone asking questions. He continued in the direction that he saw you walking in until he started to hear a voice.
Assuming it was you, Javier followed the voice, slowing down when he realised that it was you and that you were singing. Approaching quietly, Javier reached the edge of the tree line and stopped when he saw you.
You were sitting by the edge of the lake, staring into the water as you sung softly to yourself.
Try to keep my balance but I still fall
But how I fell so hard
Right into your arms
Wrapped inside you baby and it's so warm
But Love without a cause
Leaves me trapped inside my own bars
Javier decided not to make himself known. He knew that he probably should but, instead, he lent against the tree beside him and just started to watch you. You were singing quietly and softly to yourself, you weren't singing for anybody else and something about that was beautiful to him.
He perdido el balance por tu amor
En tus manos yo caí
Tienes control sobre mí
Tu cuerpo es la cárcel y yo un prisionero
Y jamás quiero salir
Condenado y soy feliz
You sang and Javier instantly smiled, hearing you sing in Spanish was just something else. He wanted to sing along with you but he had no idea what this song was. He also had no idea that you spoke Spanish, had you been hiding this from him?
Quiero ser tuyo enterito pero tengo miedo
Prométeme que no me vas a dejar sin tu amor
You sang quietly and Javier decided it was time to make himself known. He could stand there and listen to you all night but he knew that eventually you would finish and catch him watching you, and then you would leave. It would be better if he approached you, convinced you to stay, got some time with you.
Javier pushed himself away from the tree and quietly walked over to you, you clearly still hadn't noticed him.
"¿Tu hablas español?" Javier asked, his voice making you jump slightly in surprise before looking up at him. Your face flushed lightly when you realised that he had heard you singing.
"Spanish? Uh, no, not really" you shook your head.
"You were singing in Spanish" Javier pointed out as he sat down beside you.
"Oh...yeah. It's more like I just remembered the lyrics. I had a friend who used to play that song all the time" you explained.
"Do you miss them?" Javier asked, sounding like he genuinely wanted to know.
"Not really. I mean, we were friends a few years ago. I mean not a few years ago because a few years ago neither of us existed but-" you started to ramble as you tried to explain the messy timeline that your life had become.
"A few years ago in your time?" Javier asked, helping you out with an amused smile.
"Yeah, that" you nodded, chuckling to yourself. "We hadn't spoken for a few years before I ended up here. I still remember the song though" you told him.
"I'm sorry to hear that" Javier sounded sincere.
"Oh, don't. It's fine really but, uh...how long were you standing there?" you asked, blushing again when you thought about him just standing and watching you as you sang to yourself.
"...long enough to hear you sing a little bit" Javier confessed, blushing a little bit as well. "Lo siento" he apologised.
"It's alright. Just don't do it again" you teased, gently nudging your shoulder against his, to assure him that you weren't mad at him.
"I won't" Javier promised. "What are you doing out here anyway?" he asked, getting to the point as to why he followed you out here in the first place.
"It's quiet. I like to get away from everything sometimes" you shrugged.
"Are we that bad?" Javier asked jokingly but he really hoped that you didn't want to leave the gang.
"Oh no, that's not what I meant" your eyes widened slightly, not wanting him to think that you disliked them or were ungrateful. That wasn't the case at all. "I love you guys, seriously. You all took me in even though you had no reason too, I'm really thankful for that" you assured him. "It's just that...things are so different to my time. Sometimes I don't even think about it, I forget about the differences, but there are times I have to just sit down and remember where I am. You try living in a different time period and not having to adjust" you explained.
"Honestly? I think you're adjusting really well. Not only are you living in the past, you've become an outlaw. Unless you were a criminal back home" Javier joked, nudging his shoulder against yours just like you had done, hoping that it might make you smile.
"Of course I wasn't" you laughed as you playfully slapped his arm, making him chuckle.
"If you had the choice to go back, would you?" Javier asked, his smile fading slightly.
"...no" you confessed, turning your attention back to the water in front of you. "I don't really have anything waiting for me back there. I have a home here, a family because I really do think of the gang as my family. I just feel like I have more reason to be here than there" you told him.
"I'm glad to hear that. It wouldn't be the same without you" Javier told you sincerely, making you smile to yourself as another light blush rose to your face. "You should sing more often" he changed the subject, something a little more lighthearted.
"Thanks but I'm not that good. I just like singing to myself. I'm not as good as you" you shook your head.
"I think your singing is beautiful" Javier complimented.
"Careful, I might just fall for you" you jokingly warned him, trying to casually play off the compliment.
"That wouldn't be a bad thing" Javier told you, his voice gentler than before. Something about his words and voice made you look at him, trying to read his face to tell if he was joking or not. Again, you blushed. "No estoy bromeando" he spoke softly as he reached over and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.
"I don't know what that means" you told him with a quiet, nervous laugh.
"I'm not kidding" Javier translated, his voice just above a whisper, before his lips bushed against you, giving you the opportunity to pull away.
You didn't pull away from him, you brought your hand up to his cheek and returned his kiss. Your fingers combed through his hair as he hand slid to the back of your head, holding you close but gentle.
"Yeah, I'm definitely staying here" you smiled against his lips.
"Good" Javier chuckled before pressing his lips to yours in a short but sweet kiss.
The two of you sat for a while longer by the lake, Javier's arm wrapped around your body as you rested your head against his shoulder. After some silence, you started to quietly hum a new tune and slowly, as he started to become familiar with the tune, Javier began to join in.
