"I have cancer as your father would of told you. I was told yesterday that I have a few months longer to live than I thought".
"Which type of cancer?"
"It's brain they can't remove all of it?"
"So you've had chemotherapy and radiotherapy for it".
"No I'm just letting nature take its course".
"So I'm assuming you have grade 4 cancer", Debbie ask her grandfather.
"No its grade 2".
Debbie was shocked to learn there was a chance her grandfather could live a long life. "So it's not spread or anything meaning you could get better and you choose not to. Do you know how many people wish they had your choice you selfish prick. Did you at least have surgery?"
"Couple days ago", he replies.
"You know what your words don't mean anything old man. How are you suppose to teach me to be a Crown Princess if you're not around. My birthday is in six weeks I want you there and you would rather die".
"Debora", says her father. "I've had this discussion with him already he will not change his mind".
"Why do you want to die, people fight to live you're fighting to die why?"
"You're upsetting him", says her father.
Debbie turns to walk out the room and her grandfather's voice stops her.
"Your mother only cheated on your father once. I set up the other incident and made sure photos were taken now let me die in peace".
Debbie laughs, "Peace you're so riddle with guilt you want to die", she looks at her father who was in shock.
"Irene didn't cheat on me that second time?"
"She didn't cheat on you the first time (unless you count kissing cheating) after your marriage. She did plenty of times before", Debbie's father goes to hit her grandfather.
Debbie stands between them, "He's still sick dad. Why would you separate my parents like that?". She ask her grandfather sadly. "You made my mother the villain to my father when she wasn't. She no doubt believes he didn't trust her enough to see that the cheating allegations was a lie".
"Your mother came to me after she married your father asking for a large sum of money. When she found out she was pregnant with you she asked for an even greater sum to abort you".
Debbie's hand flew to her mouth and tears rolled down her face, "You were my boy's child I couldn't do that to him. I gave her an even greater sum of money to keep you. Once I quickly realised the money was all that she wanted I made sure she was watched carefully and you were born safely. I stupidly thought once she saw you she would fall instantly in love with you and it seemed I was right. She took you and moved to London I use to visit you often when you were young. One day I saw her leave you on the sofa unattended you were only couple months old. I walked out of there with you but she caught up with me shouting she would tell my son the truth about the pictures. I got two Danish nannies for you and they were instructed to not let you out of their sight".
"How could you leave her there father you saw the danger she was in. You should have been angry enough to bring her home truth be damn".
"I'm sorry son your mother would be ashamed of me".
"I want you to make amends for it all and you can start by getting treatment starting tomorrow. We can't fix us if you're not there to play your part. Hearing this new piece of information is knocking me for six. I want to hate you put I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you".
Debbie's grandfather face goes through several different emotions as she speaks. There was sadness, shame and Debbie saw the hope on his face as she finish speaking.
Debbie hugs her father, "I grow up thinking you were dead not that I wasn't wanted by you", she wipes his tears. "All three of us get a second chance let's not waste it. I just found my family and I've dealt with enough pain in my past. I need to not let it and the present rob me of my future".
"You're very mature for nineteen".
"When you have no choice but to take care of yourself the maturity comes naturally with it".
Debbie walks over to her granddad. "Gramps I just got my family back please don't let me loose a member before I get a chance to know them properly. You know mum always told me I was beautiful growing up she never let me be think I was ugly. She had her good moments then she would ignore me for months at a time. I was just money to her most woman would want the title of Princess she just wanted money it seems".
"I'm sorry Debora, I'm sorry Alexsander my lies have effected both your lives. I'll start treatment as soon as possible and I'll still step down as king".
For a moment nothing was said then Debbie's father finally says, "Ok".
Alexsander looks at his daughter who wipes away a tear and nods her agreement too. The three Jensen family members look at one another before her father leaves to get in touch with his father's doctors.
"Thank you Debora for giving me this chance".
"You need to thank my dad as well".
"Tell me I know you have a medical condition did your mother at least offer you comfort when you needed it?"
"No".
"I'm sorry".
"Listen you did some pretty mess-up things manipulating my parents. But my mothers actions when we were in England were her own".
"When did you stop coming to visit me I don't remember you?"
"You were five and my wife died and the country was going through a time where it needed stable leadership. Don't be too hard on your father he kept all the pictures and school reports your nanny sent about you".
"When you have your treatment the tumour will it shrink enough for them to remove the rest?"
He squeezes her hands, "They think so".
"Dad has pictures of me?"
"Yes, I take it you've only been to your part of the palace there's pictures of you everywhere in the rest of it. You will need to take some photos to be release to the public on your birthday. My private secretary tells me our twitter account as gained over 3 million new subscribers and our instagram over 5 million. It would seem you're a big draw for our country not only are you Danish but a perceived American as well. The networks are salivating over having a future American queen".
"Dad said I was born in the palace".
"Yes you were we have a Doctor's surgery and operating rooms within the grounds. The people will love you Debora of that I have no doubt. A statement was put out before you came here saying we didn't announce your birth because we wanted to give your mother privacy at the time. As she adjusted to a new country and it was important to your father. You experienced a normal upbringing. It was always the plan you would return to the country before your 20th birthday".
"And people actually believed that crap?"
"Yes, when the press found out where you lived there had to be a reason for you living in the area you did when you're a princess. The press release shows we didn't abandon you and it made it seem like you were experiencing living like a regular person. The fact you had extremely cheap clothes on in pictures they took of you make the lie more creditable. It gives you a unique insight into the suffering some people face every day".
"Damn gramps you're slick I have an Instagram account and twitter that I barely post on can I keep them?"
"The palace will run them for you. Anything's you post has to be approved by your press officer first but yes you can keep them. Are there pictures of you on your instagram. I know some people don't like showing their faces on those sites".
"There is I haven't checked my social media since I got here".
Debbie checks her phone to see her Twitter and Instagram which had barely 12 followers now had over a million each and the figure just kept going up. She looked at some of her followers she noticed some where celebrities and royal reporters.
"I have over a million followers now I didn't even have twenty before. I feel like I should post something".
"Just make sure it's in Danish don't forget this is your country now and the people need to see you being Danish in everything you do. Tell me apart from Danish what other languages do you speak?"
"Swedish, french and Spanish".
"Good, good when you go on official visits to countries that speak those languages. Please make sure any speech you give is in those languages. It looks good for our country".
Debbie looked at her grandfather and opened her mouth to say something but noticed how tired he was.
"I'm going to go you need to rest".
Debbie take a hold of her grandfather's hand and squeezes it before leaving. She goes to open the door when it's open from outside for her. Two footmen bow to her and wish her good morning.
