Chapter 19

Kayla and Klaus were in the living room sharpening a couple of stakes whilst Kol and Elijah were having a little bit of bonding time. Kayla was humming a tune as she carved away at the white oak stake.

"So you're actually Persephone?" Klaus asked, disrupting the relaxing atmosphere. Kayla just mumbled a small, 'yup' in acknowledgement and continued to carve.

"The goddess of spring?" Klaus questioned.

"And the Queen of the Underworld." Kayla added, still not looking up from the stake.

Klaus sighed deeply, causing Kayla to look over at him briefly, "And it doesn't bother you at all that you both have to die?"

"Not at all," Kayla began as she turned her head back to the stake, "We'll both be coming back and we'll be happier than ever. We'll be able to go back and be who we're meant to be."

"I just can't believe my brother is actually Hades." Klaus scoffed in disbelief, "I always knew he was insane, but the actually God of the Underworld?!"

Kayla rolled her eyes at the hybrid and laid the stake down on the table in front of her, she pulled her legs underneath her on the couch and looked at him, "He didn't know who he was until about a week ago. Also, he's never been insane."

"Fair enough," Klaus stated as he finished up the stake he was working on, "But what exactly would happen if you guys were returned to your original god-like forms?" he questioned, a tinge of sarcasm in his voice.

Kayla shrugged, "We would have our powers returned to us. I would no longer be mortal and Kol would no longer be a vampire. We would be able to go back to the Underworld, as well as visit Olympus."

"Could you bring people back to life." Klaus asked as he leaned forward in curiosity.

The brunette girl couldn't help but snort at his question, "That depends on who they are and if we actually wanted to bring them back to life."

"Does this mean Kol would be stronger than me?"

"You mean, could he destroy you? Get his revenge on you for daggering him?" Kayla asked, her voice having a sharp edge. "Yes." she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Well that settles it then." Klaus said as he stood, "I can't help you guys." He grabbed the stake he had made and then flashed over to her and grabbed the stake she had.

She stood in anger and went to stop him, but he had already flashed away before she could even speak a word.

Kayla was still fuming when Kol and Elijah finally arrived back to the mansion. When she saw them walk into the house, she stood up and ran over to them. "He's gone." she growled.

"What do you mean?" Kol asked in shock.

"I mean," Kayla emphasized, "He took the stakes and disappeared."

Elijah looked at the girl curiously, "Did you say something to make him do that?"

"No." Kayla said instantly, not even feeling a tinge of guilt. She was lying, but they didn't need to know that.

Elijah hummed, obviously not believing the girl. "Well, we'll find him eventually. In the meantime, you might want to go say goodbye to your family." He gave Kayla a soft smile and then disappeared upstairs.

Kayla looked up at Kol and grabbed his hand, "I love you." she said as she gazed at him in adoration.

"I love you too." Kol replied as he tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead.

Kayla hesitantly knocked on the door to her mothers house. She bit her lip as she felt herself become nervous, she didn't really know how she was supposed to go through with this. Finally, her mother opened the door.

"Hey Mom." Kayla said as she gripped Kol's hand tighter. She had thought about making him wait at the mansion for her to return, but she knew that she couldn't do this by herself.

"Kayla?!" Her mother gasped in shock, she instantly pulled her daughter into a tight hug. "Where have you been?!" she cried as she pulled back to look at her. She quickly looked her up and down to make sure she was unharmed, and then she pulled her into another hug.

"I've just been traveling a bit." Kayla replied with a smile that didn't meet her eyes. Kol was still holding her hand and she couldn't help but feel thankful that he was there with her.

"Well, come on in and have a seat. We'll discuss it all." her mother said as she pulled back from the hug once again, "And you can bring your little friend in too!"

The sheriff disappeared into the house and Kayla tried to pull Kol inside but he was stopped by the barrier. Kayla furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "You can come in Kol." she said as she shook her head lightly. She had completely forgotten that he was a vampire.

"You know, I can't wait until we're back in our original bodies so that you can call me by my true name." Kol said as they began walking towards the kitchen where they could see Elizabeth bustling around to gather something for them all to eat.

"And what is your true name?" Kayla asked with an amused smile.

"Sexy." he replied without hesitation. This caused Kayla to burst out in laughter. Elizabeth had just placed two glasses of water on the table, "What's got you laughing so hard?" she asked as she tilted her head in curiosity.

"Kol is trying to make me call him a different name." Kayla said with a smile as she sat down at the table and grabbed a glass of water.

"And what name would that be?"

Damien and Paul were watching a hologram of Hades and Persephone. When it shut off, Paul grabbed Damien's hand and lightly squeezed it. "Are you ready to do this?" he asked.

Damien inhaled deeply and turned to look at his husband with a small smile that didn't reach his eyes, "As ready as I'll ever be."

"She's been wanting to meet you for quiet some time now." Paul said as they pushed open the gates to Olympus.

Damien rolled his eyes, "She's the whole reason I didn't get to grow up with my parents, I don't think she has a right to meet me."

Paul kissed Damien's hand to comfort him, "Maybe not," he began, "But you might as well get it over with so you don't have to deal with her in the future."

"Or I could just stay in the Underworld with my parents for forever and never have to deal with her." Damien chirped.

"You know that wouldn't work." Paul said softly.

Damien just sighed softly. They were almost to the throne room and he would finally have to confront the woman who destroyed his life.

"So how long have you two known each other? The only Kol I remember Kayla mentioning is the one she used to dream of." Elizabeth asked as she grabbed a chip to eat on.

Kayla shot Kol a small nervous glance before answering her mother's question, "We met when I went on that road trip with Stefan, but it feels like we've known each other for years."

Elizabeth looked at the two with a soft gaze, "You guys are adorable."

Suddenly, Kayla's phone buzzed and a text message from Elijah appeared.

Klaus has returned to the mansion. You and Kol should probably return if you guys are still set on dying.

Kayla showed Kol her phone and they both stood up. "We should probably head out, we were wanting to go do a few things before bed." Kayla said smoothly as she smiled.

"I'll walk you out then." Elizabeth said.

As Kayla was about to walk out the door, Elizabeth grabbed her hand and pulled her into a tight hug. Kayla's eyes began to fill with tears as she realized she would probably never be able to see her earthly mother again. "I love you." Her mother said.

"I love you too, Mom." Kayla replied, her voice breaking. She was trying her hardest not to cry, she didn't want her mom to realize something was wrong.

Elizabeth pulled back and studied Kayla's face. "Are you okay?" she asked, "You're acting like you're never going to see me again."

As her mother wiped a few tears from her eyes, Kayla spoke, "I just love you so much."

"Well, you'll see me tomorrow, baby." Elizabeth said as she, once again, pulled her daughter into a tight hug.

As Kol and Kayla walked down the street towards the mansion, her mother called out, "Don't forget! I don't want to have any grand babies too soon!!"

Kol smirked at Kayla, trying to make her feel better, "If only she knew she technically already has one."

Kayla let out a small laugh, but it didn't feel genuine. She didn't understand why she was feeling such anguish towards leaving her earthly mother, she didn't even have a good bond with her when she ran off with Stefan and Klaus.

"Are you okay?" Kol finally asked her.

"I will be." Kayla replied as they stepped onto the steps of the mansion, "Let's just get this over with."
