Chapter 8
Several days had past since Sesshomaru claimed you as his mate and although you were still weak from his revival, you begged him to let you go outside to pick flowers. Autumn was near and all greenery would soon die. You wanted to bask in Earth's beauty and immerse yourself amongst nature.
It took several hours of convincing but, Sesshomaru eventually allowed you to leave home for the afternoon. Since you were his first mate, he was very protective over you. Demon mates could be easy targets but as long as you wore his kimono, you would be fine. It had his demonic aura.
As Sesshomaru gripped your hand as you walked through the forest, tears threatened to fall from your eyes. You were happy to be outside but your mind couldn't help but flood with harsh memories of the village. In the past, the villagers would beg you to heal them. They would make you feel guilty for not using your abilities, even if you were fainting from pain. They would compare you to your ancestors and say that you were a failure. The village never cared and manipulated you every chance they got. They only wanted your powers.
It was in the woods that you would escape from their torture and train. You trained to release your built up resentment and after several years, your powers finally began to stabilize. Now, you could heal for hours and pain was not as severe as it used to be. The village also stopped nagging you but the damage of their past words could never be done. As a result, you concealed your emotions and pushed yourself as hard as possible, desperately trying to get stronger for the village. But you hated it, you hated being a doctor. It was only for the children that you continued to preserve.
When Sesshomaru asked you to be his mate, you couldn't help but accept. A life of freedom, rest, love, and protection was too big of an offer to refuse. You felt guilty for being selfish, for abandoning your duties and Suikotsu but it couldn't be helped. You spent years caring for others, it was about time you cared for yourself. It was okay to be selfish.
"[Y/n]?" Sesshomaru said, breaking you out of your thoughts. You peer up at him with tear filled eyes, smiling. He was completely oblivious to the fact that he had saved you from years of torture. It was if he, a demon, was a reward from the heavens. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," you say reassuringly, "I was just thinking about some stuff."
You wrap your arms around Sesshomaru and nuzzle your face into his chest. Your tears lightly stain his kimono and leave tiny wet patches. You blush in embarrassment, mumbling an apology. His warmth was like a blanket, comforting and safe.
" I have to go to the Northern mountains for a bit," Sesshomaru says, he cupping your cheek and forcing you to look up at him, "I'll be back by sundown. Stay with Jaken and Rin."
You meekly nod and hug him tightly, before watching him disappear into the forest. Jaken and Rin stand by your side. They had become more protective of you since Sesshomaru told them you were his mate. It was embarrassing because out of the two of them, you were taller and more powerful. But still, it was cute. They were just trying their best.
"[Y/n]-san, let's go flower picking now!" Rin cheers, raising her hands in the air. She drags you deeper into the forest while Jaken trudges behind, crossing his arms. Although Lord Sesshomaru had given him the duty of protecting you, he was still very annoyed at the fact that you were human. He hated all humans but since his Lord commanded him, he would protect you with his life.
"Look at these, Rin!" you say, marveling at a hibiscus flower. With its petals, you used to make amazing medicines. But now that you were no longer a doctor, you could make tea. You smile to yourself, Sesshomaru would probably enjoy hibiscus tea. You happily picked a few dozen flowers and place them into your basket.
Suddenly, your body violently jolts and you collapse onto the floor. A group of people were running in your direction. Three demons and three humans, most of them had strong powers. It had been days since you used any of your power, so their sudden presence was a shock to you.
"[Y/n]-san!" Jaken and Rin scream in unison.
Your eyes widen. Sesshomaru had warned you about strong demons lingering in the woods, but you figured you'd be fine since the sun was still up. Usually demons came out at night time, so why now? These demons were strong too. Didn't your kimono ward off demons? Why were they coming? Sesshomaru's demonic aura should've been able to scare them off.
You feel a strong gust of wind head in your direction and in less than a second, you create a strong barrier around everyone. Cuts and bruises appear on your skin as the wind attacks. Blood soaks your clothing and you feel all power drain from your body. If the attack had been any stronger, you would've died again.
"[Y/n]-san!" Rin screams, pulling you off the ground and into her arms. You hear her yelling at the attackers but her voice becomes fainter and fainter. Your eyes feel heavy and you slowly drift into unconscious. The pain was probably the worst you had ever felt. Who could muster such a poweful attack?
After some time you violently begin to cough, trails of blood dripping from your mouth. You slowly open your [e/c] eyes and blink them rapidly. Rin was still holding you in her tiny arms and you struggle to remember the situation you are in.
As realization hits, you jerk off of Rin and quickly examines the tiny girl's body. She had minimal injuries. Her face was a little scratched but overall she was fine. You sigh with relief and fall back onto her.
"Thank god, my barrier worked," you cry, "Sesshomaru would've killed me if I died."
"[Y/n]! You're awake!" Jaken says, "My Lord will be here very soon!"
A white haired demon begins to walk towards you. He kicks Jaken to the side and peers over your helpless figure. You raise your eyebrow, his pressence was similar to Sesshomaru's but it was much more young and wild. "Oi, how are you Sesshomaru's mate?" he says, scratching his head, "A human? Has he gone mad?"
You screech as the demon nears even closer to you, fearfully grabbing Rin and Jaken to create another protection barrier. It wavered and was embarrassingly weak, but it was all the power you could muster. You cough up more blood and your body begins to tremble with pain. Spirit energy barriers were very tiring and painful. The damage of the barrier immediately appeared on the holder. They were used to protect other people, not the owner. "Get away, demon! I'll kill you!"
"Kill me? You're almost dead!" the demon says, reaching for his sword, "We might as well kill her before Sesshomaru comes."
You grit your teeth, how did they know about Sesshomaru? How did they even know you were his mate? It's been seven days! Did news spread already?
In the distance, trees and other plants begin to wither as Sesshomaru darts towards you. He leaves a path of death behind him. His demonic aura was so suffocating, you would have never expected such a thing from him. Sesshomaru suddenly stands before everyone, his eyes scarlet red and kimono ripped, covered with blood.
"Inuyasha," he growls, his voice pierces everyones skin. So much that even you were afraid. "What did you do to [Y/n]?"
Your barrier finally shatters and exposes you to Sesshomaru's aura. You coughs furiously, clutching your chest. Tears form in you eyes and you felt as though your breath was being sucked out of you. Although you were a strong human, in your weakened state you could not handle the pressures of Sesshomaru.
Sesshomaru dashes towards you and lifts you into his arms. You whimper and lean against his chest. His bloody eyes soften at the sight of you. He loved you so much, he couldn't help but be soft. As he hugs you tightly, your coughing begins to quiet. Your wounds mend within seconds. He had used his power of regeneration on you to stabilize your body under his suffocating aura.
"Are you alright now, [Y/n]?" he whispers, tucking a strand of your [h/c] hair behind your ears. You pout and nodd with a flushed face, causing him to place you on the ground next to Rin and Jaken
"Then I'll be right back, I have to go punish a stray dog," Sesshomaru growls, the wind blowing through his long hair. He burned with anger. Someone dare injure his mate?
Sesshomaru whips towards the white haired demon and releases his sword, Tōkijin. You watch in awe as the two clash, Sesshomaru was a better fighter than you had ever expected. His sword gracefully moved with his body. Each of his strikes were thought to the exact detail.
"I do not attack your mate, Inuyasha," Sesshomaru says, as his weapon meets the other demon's, "I do not understand why you would attack mine."
"Are you insane? You put a such a crazy aura on that kimono, I thought you went insane or something!" the demon, who you assume is Inuyasha, screams. He glares at Sesshomaru and continues to lash at him. His movements were much more wild and careless compared to Sesshomaru. You couldn't help but beam with pride. Your boyfriend, or mate, was an amazing fighter.
"Is that so?" Sesshomaru questions, kicking Inuyasha and pinning him on the floor with his foot. He holds his blade beneath his chin.
"Yes! Yes! Calm down!"
Inuyasha's friends scream as Sesshomaru's sword swiftly slashes through his chest. He left a deep mark, but not nearly deep enough to kill him. Blood splatters onto Sesshomaru's cheek and clothing. He lets out an annoyed grunt as Inuyasha groans in agony.
"I shall spare your life this time, Inuyasha. I am feeling generous because my mate is here," Sesshomaru says as he peers over his opponents weak figure, "But if you ever strike my mate again, I will kill you and Kagome."
"Alright! Alright! Sheesh!"
As Sesshomaru releases Inuyasha, he calmly walks towards you. His eyes returned to their normal golden color and his face reverted back to its usual calm demeanor. He lifts you from the ground and carries you in his arms. "Know your place, half-demon," Sesshomaru sneers at Inuyasha as he walks back home.
You gaze into the sky and sigh, knowing that it would be a long time before Sesshomaru would let you leave home again.
