"klaus?" lilith calls out as she looks through the upstairs floor of the academy. she needed klaus at the moment, she needed to clear some air before you know
the end of the world and what not
klaus never told her he could see ben, he had never even mentioned it. so lilith was under the impression he never was able to, so she didn't pry any further
she also wasn't sure if she wanted him to see him or not. if he did, he'd be lying to her this entire time, and she hate nothing more
nothing would change if he didn't either, just that lilith could never get the closure she really needed
she feels herself stumble a little as her back becomes heavier. klaus had hugged her from behind, which explained the sudden gain of weight "right here, care bear"
lilith chuckles, even at the end of the world klaus couldn't waste a moment to make her laugh
"you wanna help?" he asks, jumping off of her back. lilith turns around and sees diego holding a bunch of rope, her eyes flicker over to klaus and then to diego
"do i wanna know...?" diego shakes his head but klaus seemed extremely eager to explain the out of context situation
"you know, last time i was sober was that roaring good time when those freaks had me tied up in the motel room" klaus says nonchalantly, lilith growls under her breath, remembering what happened to him, but klaus gives her a soft smile, telling her not to make a huge deal out of it
"wow...you are one twisted bonehead" diego mutters, lilith crosses her arms at diego's statement "weren't you the one asking him to clean up over and over again?" she asks
"well for your information, sis there better way to get clean" diego says, making sure not to leave out his sister, hinting that maybe she should get clean too
"not for me, no," klaus whispered
"i need someone to take away my options"
lilith flings her arm over klaus "yeah but this is a little bit much don't you think?" klaus shakes his head "too much? it's too little"
lilith sighs and shakes her head, realizing she couldn't get through him no matter how hard she's try "well...whatever floats your boat, crazy"
klaus grins and starts jumping up and down "thank you. thank you. thank you," he whispers, hugging her tightly
klaus seemed to snap out of whatever trance he had been in and pulled away with a smile, going back to the klaus that they knew. "now that's what real siblings do! take some notes diego and maybe you'll learn from her"
lilith laughs as she sees diego's sour expression and flicks klaus' forehead "hey, he's a good sibling"

"yeah, yeah, yeah," klaus chants as diego walks around the chair he was in with the rope
lilith stands across from klaus, amused by how weird klaus' sober tactic was
"i hate this room," diego grimaces, looking around. "oh, it got me high enough," klaus says with a small smile
the trio was inside one of daddy deadest's rooms, this one had happened to be his office. taking a simple breath in the room was enough for lilith to feel shivers down her spine
"i picked it clean of anything of value after daddy kicked the bucket,"
"nice" lilith says, grinning. klaus returns her grin
"sorry i didn't save any for you, lily bear" "don't sweat it, just upset that you didn't tag me along" lilith jokes
"that's it, tighter and higher," klaus says out of the blue to diego who was still tying him up
diego stops to look at his brother before taking the rope and pulling it tighter. "ooh. oof! yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah," klaus whispers
lilith grimaces, giving klaus a disgusted look "if i see a boner, i'm out," diego says to him
lilith chuckles at the joke, but judging by diego's face, it didn't seem like one
klaus chuckles as well and Diego turns back to the boy "end of the world and you wanna get sober all of a sudden...don't get me wrong, man. good by you. but i'd think you'd wanna pop every pill on the planet," diego mutters
"oh, the thought did cross my mind, believe me," klaus says "but. . .there's something I need to do, and the whole pesky thing doesn't seem to work unless I'm sober"
"is this about that special friend?" lilith asks, giving klaus the courage to continue
he nods his head happily "yeah...special friend" lilith squeals at the thought of klaus with someone
"oh yeah... what was her name?" diego asks but lilith is quick to answer on behalf of klaus "his name was dave...am i right?" she puts emphasis on the first word as she looks at diego
diego looks at her with realization in his eyes "oh..."
"dave" klaus whispers, it's clear he is heartbroken by the way he says his name, lilith wants nothing more than to make him feel better
"wanna tell us about him?" she asks, kneeling in front of klaus
klaus tears up slightly before sighing, he starts to tell them
"we soldiered together in the a shau valley in the mountain of the crouching beast," klaus explains
"he was kind, and strong, and vulnerable, and. . .beautiful. beautiful. . .and i was. . .foolish enough to follow him all the way to the front line" as klaus tells them, he looks lost, almost nostalgic
"you fought in the shit?" diego asks as he worked on finishing up with the knots
"oh, yeah, baby," klaud said, a proud smirk on his face
"now who in the right mind would let you do that?" lilith asks, diego nods, also wanting to know
klaus scoffs "let me? war couldn't take enough bodies. please" klaus says with a small chuckle
"including his" his voice cracks slightly and lilith was quick to hold his hand "i wish could've met him, crazy. he sounds amazing" she said and the boy squeezed her hand in response
"yeah, he was," klaus whispers as if it hurt to say. "i told him all about you, you know...he says he'd really love to meet my favorite sister" lilith places a hand on her and lets out a soft "aww"
"i'm your favorite sister?" klaus sticks his tongue out at the girl before smiling
"don't push it lily bear"
"hey, look at us. loggin' in some quality family time before the end of the world," klaus jokes
"yeah, might as well... everyone i like is pretty much dead except for you two" lilith felt extremely special at the moment, first klaus admits that lilith was his favorite and now diego had told her that he likes her
"ah, yes. the lady cop," klaus mutters. lilith shakes her head, trying to get klaus to quiet down, as to not feed diego's thirst for vengeance even more
"mom too," diego says
lilith sighs, realizing that diego was going to get revenge no matter what "i let them both down..." diego looks down guiltily, lilith however shakes her head "you couldn't have stopped it even if you were there... so please stop blaming yourself" diego looks up at her and nods, a gesture which said he was practically greatful
"ah, shit!" klaus whines, lilith and diego both turn to look at him, both concerned
"what?"
"i need to pee"

klaus had to take a bathroom break, much to diego's annoyance but they were back now, and for some reason klaus wasn't feeling it anymore
"get you goin' here. a quick-" diego began, but klaus sighs and stood up from the chair
"you know, no, i—k think. . .i think this was. . ." klaus began, but lilith was quick to stand up, not liking how klaus was now hesistant
"whoa, whoa, whoa," diego says as he too stood up
"i think this was a bad idea. no, i just—i should have had just one last hit to ease me into it. that's all I need," klaus says cautiously, noticing that now diego and lilith were tag teaming
"i' be right back"
"oh ho ho... no, no," lilith says as she hurries over to the boy and drags him back. klaus attempts to struggle through her grip but lilith was stronger
"oh no i don't think so"
"that's not how it works, lilith," klaus insists. he uses her name this time, not some childish nickname, he was serious. but nevertheless lilith doesn't fall for it
"no" she says sternly
"lily. . .lily, please listen. just listen," klaus begs, but she shakes her head.
"sit," she hisses at him
"just listen," klaus tries again before he tried attempted to shove her
lilith gasps, pushing him back, on the chair, she places her foot on his chest, almost preventing him from moving because of her strength
klaus hisses, in pain, his back making contact with the back of his chair "did you really just-"
"tough love baby" she tells him. once again he struggles to move against her foot still on his chest "goddamn it lilith"
"no sit your ass down!" lilith states strictly, as much as she loves klaus, sometimes you gotta give some tough love in order for people to truly understand
"klaus, come on... this is hard for us as it is...you'll thank us eventually," diego explains
"no, i won't!" klaus argues but it does not faze lilith whatsoever
"damn it, diego!" klaus exclaims as he struggles against the rooe diego tied him around
"damn it! stop it! stop it!" "nope!" diego yells out. klaus' eyes lands on lilith's and in a frantic cry for help, he says "lily, please. i don't want to be tied up anymore. stop him. please!"
klaus begs. it almost makes lilith do as instructed, but she shakes her head, knowing that this was the best option if klaus was going to get clean
"klaus i'm sorry but this is for the best," she tells him
"no, it's not!" klaus yells
"listen, if you want to see dave
then it will be" lilith yells back at him
klaus froze at that, but it didn't last long
"get off! get. . .get off!" klaus yells at diego
as much as lilith hated seeing her brother in painc, she knew that this really was the best way, for the greater good, for closure
"lily bear please!" klaus cries out, lilith's heart breaks as he calls her out. she turns her head to him, a pain stricken look on her face as she shakes her head "klaus...please understand, this is for your own-"
"i can let you see him!"
lilith blinks, she is confused as he says this, the theory of who "he" could be runs through her mind. until she stops to one possibility...he couldn't right? klaus would never lie to her
"klaus-" diego starts as he notices lilith's body tense up but klaus interrupts him as soon as he sees her expression
"ben! he really really misses you...i can conjure him for you" klaus insists, he struggles through the tightness of the rope
diego looks to lilith, who is frozen at the spot, she looked paler than usual, almost fragile and breakable. lilith staggers backwards, overwhelmed with klaus' words
diego is quick to come to her side, with his good arm he holds her close, assuring that she wouldn't fall
"klaus i swear to god...if you are fucking with me-"
"no! not all! i've been able to see him since he died" klaus says, seeing lilith's now tense and frenzied state
lilith felt air leave her body and her heart was beating dangerously fast, the new surge of information leaves her confused...but very very angry
"you...you...since he died?!" lilith screams, her eyes flicker to blood red as she states at klaus, bewildered. deep inside she had a feeling something like this would happen, she had expected it, but it was actually happening, and lilith felt betrayed
"so...you've been keeping a huge secret from me all this time? for seventeen years to be exact?!" klaus looks down at the ground, now unsure if he said the right thing to her
"...how could you?" lilith whispers, the venom in her voice dissapears, it was replaced by a certain softness a child would have in their voice
"lily bear...i'm so so sorry, i wanted to tell you i really did but...i couldn't find the right time"
"oh so the right time for you is bribing me to let you out so that you can go pop a pill?"
klaus refuses to meet her eyes, he's guilty and lilith knows it, but it didn't change how painful her heart was at the moment. she sighs and ruffles her hair vigorously
"listen... if you say this is the only way you can get sober then i am not letting you out, i want you to get your shit sorted alright?" lilith turns to diego who nods at her, he goes out followed by lilith
"oh...please don't go...not you too" klaus cries
lilith stops as she reaches the threshold. her feelings were still mixed, but one thing was for sure, she loved klaus, and she'd rather die than have him do this alone
"lil?" lilith looks up, diego is still in front of her waiting, she shakes her head "go ahead...i'll see to it that he won't go crazy or something" he nods, walking away
lilith turns around, klaus' face was dampened with tears, but she sees a flicker of joy in his eyes as he sees that she was still here
"so... tell me more about this dave"

"that's pretty messed up..." lilith says after klaus recounts the time he and dave met. lilith was heartbroken to hear how horribly they split, life just grabbed him, not even giving him the chance to say goodbye
klaus sighs and nods his head. "hey bear, what did it feel like when ben died?"
lilith didn't need to think, she knew exactly how it felt because to this day she still feels it
"like someone grabbed your heart and made you watch as they tear it apart, and you can't cry out because you can't even breathe so now you're left defenseless and hopeless...no tears, no breathing, it's just nothing"
she says it all in almost one breath, she could feel klaus' stare piercing through her "i-is that why you didn't go to his funeral? or cry at all?"
"it may seem like a stupid reason but yeah, i guess"
a few more minutes of silence passes by before klaus lets out a dissapointed sigh
"this isn't working"
lilith looks up at him and shakes her head "don't give up now, crazy it's only been an hour"
"yeah but it isn't working!...alright uhmm, how about...you help me out?" klaus says, lilith narrows her eyes in confusion
"me? how the hell could i help?" she points to herself, unsure of what he had in mind, but whatever it was he seemed extremely passionate about it
"well i mean...i talk to dead people, you're the devil...and dave's a ghost! the circle's complete!" he seemed to be convinced by his own plan, lilith meanwhile was still hesitant
"listen...even if i could, i wouldn't know how" "alright...uh how about you put your hands beside my head?"
it was getting weirder and weirder now, but nevertheless lilith does as she's told. she stands up walks behind klaus, the back of the chair standing as a barrier between the two
she hovers bother hands on the sides of klaus face
"just uh...i don't know think about dead things" he instructed, lilith grimaces, the first image that came through her mind were all the dead bodies her father forced her to consume
her hands start to glow red much to her confusion, but she soon becomes concerned as klaus struggles under her new found ability
"l-lily bear... i don't think you're thinking about the thing i wanted you to think...how about you try... ben?" he almost sounds too afraid to say his name, but lilith knew better than to dwell on what people say
"a-alright..." she says, and sure enough she thinks about him
she thinks about his stupid little smile that makes her heart flutter every time they're together
how his nose scrunches up whenever he's being really focused on the book he's reading
the way he tucks a strand of lilith's hair behind her ear whenever she gets nervous
"klaus" an unfamiliar voice prompts lilith to open her eyes, but she doesn't look up yet, she looks down at her hands and sees that the red had now been replaced by a more calm and serene white
lilith was amazed by what she saw, since when had she been able to do something like this?
"d-dave?" klaus whispers, lilith looks up, and to her surprise she sees a man in an army's uniform, was he dave? if so klaus scored good
"you did it klaus..." dave whispers, a huge grin on his face. lilith can't help but be amazed by the current situation she was facing
"and you must be lilith...his sister" dave says, lilith lets out a laugh and nods her head "well you must be dave...the one who had to put up with my brother's shit"
dave chuckles and shakes his head at lilith's response. lilith smiles, realizing that klaus had finally found someone to be happy with, even if it was for a little while
"you're amazing lilith!" klaus says, a goofy grin on his face, making lilith chortle...no longer did she laugh the graceful way, she laughs like she was a happy child again
"god i love you"
an unfamiliar yet familiar voice says from behind her
she was too afraid to turn around, but her head jerks to the side a bit, she could make out a figure from standing not too far away from her
she takes the risk though, she turns arounf and after all this time she could finally see him
"b-ben?" she whispers, he looks at her strangely, almost confused. he walks over to her warily, every step he takes makes lilith's heart skip a beat
her hands leave the sides of klaus' head and drop to her sides instead, with one hand on her chest in a useless attempt to calm herself
"c-can you see me?" ben asks, he himself looks amazed, but why wouldn't he? after all this time, only now could she see him
she nods her head gingerly, her eyes not moving from his. he stops walking, both of them facing each other. lilith held her breath, not wanting to make a move
he holds out his hand, lilith stares at it, her eyes flicker from ben and to his hand. she slowly places her hand on his, and much to her and ben's surprise, it didn't pass through this time. his hand was cold, but she couldn't care less
suddenly, ben traps her in a loving embrace, his head nuzzling into her neck, searching for warmth like a touch starved person. she freezes, not because of how cold he was, but how this could have happened... just a few hours ago all she knew was that klaus could see him, she didn't think she'd get that luxury too
as if she had only realized that ben was hugging her, she quickly grabs his face and looks at him
she caresses his cheek with one hand, her face still showed an expression of pure shock as they both stare into each other's eyes, afraid to let go
"am i dreaming?" lilith asks. ben chuckles, resting hid forehead on her's "this is real, rose"
lilith lets out a whimper, before ultimately sobbing, her vision is blurred by tears. she hasn't cried in a very long time, so this was definitely new to her
"hey...don't cry rose...i'm here now" ben whispers
lilith thinks back to her younger self, and how she decides not to take a chance. lilith wasn't a kid anymore, she knew she had to take this before it was too late
lilith wastes no time as she brings ben closer to her, they kiss and lilith finally remembers what it was like to be happy again. it was soft, like all their previous kisses, but this one was much too special
she feels ben's grip on her waist tighten as their kiss deepens, both refusing to let the moment pass, but soon it does
they pull away and rest their foreheads against each other's, lilith looks up and caresses his cheek "ben i-" she starts, but he shushes her and gives her a knowing look
"i know...me too"
lilith smiles as more tears stream doen her face. she was happy, so happy
if only it had actually happened
