Lauren's POV
It was as if I was in another world, a parallel reality, but even so, before being unconscious again I heard the last words of the girl who was in front of me.
“I thought you could change, that you wanted to do it for us, for your family, for those who love you...” she took a pause, as if it hurt to say all that “but what I see isn't what you really want and I am not able to live with a disappointment like you” she said hurting “Goodbye, Lauren.”
I awoke a while later, confused and lost.
I sat in the middle of the sidewalk, recognizing the neighborhood.
After the hellish headache my thoughts were taken by Camila's words.
At first I thought I was delirious.
I stood up with difficulty and
fear seized me.
‘What the hell did I do?’
I ran. As never before I had done it.
The tears fell without any control,
as I stumbled over my own feet.
Each step I took came a different memory.
A different conversation .
A new phrase.
All connected to the only person I needed to find now. I crashed against the door of the house, with my trembling fingers I opened it.
Silence.
I only listened to the steps that I gave myself. I climbed the stairs three by three until I pushed the door of Taylor's room and found it empty.
I opened the closet that Camila had been using and nothing. No trace.
Despair seized me.
Uselessly I kept looking for it, in each room. Until I opened the door of my room and found, on the bed, the bracelet I had given her the night before, on a note.
I fell to my knees, crying loudly,
with difficulty breathing.
Camila's POV
In the begining flashbacks began to invade me from a year ago, when I was saying goodbye to my family in Mexico.
When I didn't know the people I now have in front. And now they were making me cry for the same reason, for not wanting to separate me from them.
Clara, Michael, Taylor and Chris became part of my life, I loved them as if they were really my parents and siblings.
“So this is the end?” Taylor e asked with eyes invaded by tears “the girl will be without her angel?” she breathed deeply “Thank you, Camila, for everything! Really.” I felt the tears burn my face “You rescued my sister, you brought her back, you rescued my family, my smile...” I began to cry too “Mexican sister.”
At that moment hee voice failed and she couldn't say anything else. I took her for a hug, while letting the tears fall. I didn't have the courage to put out the sparkle in her eyes, I won't be the one to tell the bad news, Lauren will have to take care of herself from here on out.
“I'll miss you” she murmured “you have to know that what I want most is to be happy, always.”
We were hugged for a while longer, crying. Then I walked away, looking at Chris.
“Will you be back soon?” he asked, when I reached down to give him a hug. I didn't answer, I just smiled “I'm sad Mila, because you're leaving.”
“I'm always going to have you here in my heart” I embraced him in a hug “thanks for every champion...” disordered his hair, smiling.
“Clara... Michael... ” I said their names with a hoarse voice, hugging them one more time “thanks for everything, for the lodging, for holding me... and excuse me for anything.”
“You know that you will always be welcome in our house” Clara said and kissed me
“we will feel your absence, dear.”
Last call for my flight.
I took the suitcase and saw one last time those who became my new family. With my heart demolished to have the certainty that I won't see them again, I entered the departure lounge. I got on the plane.
And I looked for the last time
that city that welcomed me so well.
And, here ends my exchange.
And in the end the girl who didn't arrive...
