Tenth Week Pregnant

Vera's P.O.V.

6:37 pm.

I woke up with a sudden idea in my head. If I wanted to help people like Xavier, I needed to have a big support behind me. At first, I was hesitant when I had an idea who could be my support, but he has helped me with Xavier, and this could benefit his company.

I knocked on my father's office doors. I entered when I heard him say, "Come in!"

I opened the door hesitantly, praying for the universe to be on my side today. I entered his office. His eyes landed on me with no surprise. "Yes?"

My heart rate felt like it was skyrocketing. This was the first words he said to me, and only me.

"I have another favor to ask you," I mumbled as I took a seat in front of his desk.

He placed his pen down that he had in his hand before clasping them together, giving me his undivided attention. I was surprised he wasn't throwing a tantrum about me talking to him yet.

"I want to help people like Xavier." I start off. "I want to open my own charity, but I can't do it alone." He nodded before he opened his mouth to say something but I interjected. "And I know we're not on the best terms, or any terms at all, but after all, this is a good cause and this could benefit your company in many ways," I add quickly. "If you think about it in that way," I mumble.

He raised his eyebrow. My body tensed up as he leaned forward. "What makes you think I want to help you with this?"

I scratch my neck nervously. "Well, it's not me that you're helping, it's the people in need," I explained nervously.

He leaned back in his chair. His expression seemed like he was deep in thought. My leg started to shake involuntarily. I was tapping my nails against my jean-clad thigh.

"I'll think about it." He mumbles. "I'll let you know when I've come to a conclusion. Have a good day." He says before picking his pen up and returning to his paperwork. My eyebrows shot up at his statement. "You too," I mumble as I got up. Once I walked out of the office and closed the door. I whip my hair and do my victory dance.

"Oh yeah. I didn't get rejected." I sang quietly. I twirl before stopping once I met someone watching me.

"What are you doing, dear?" My mother asked with her worry lines appearing on her forehead.

I clear my throat and adjust my shirt that had rid up while I was dancing. "Just dancing." I try my best to smile.

She crossed her arms as she squints her eyes at me. "In front of your father's office?"

I purse my lips and nodded slowly. I give her a quick smile before immediately giving her a kiss on her cheek and ran out from the corridor.

In my eyes, he didn't say no which means that it's one step to success.

Eleventh Week Pregnant

Vera's P.O.V.

12:29 pm.
About a week later. . .

       "Bernacelli?"

I stood up immediately as I heard my name. My mother stood up with me. She had promised me as long as I stayed here, she was going to go to every appointment relating to me and the baby for support. I couldn't be any more thankful.

Soon enough, we were seated in the ultrasound room once again. It was more lively than the one before. Well, that wasn't a surprise since I was at an abortion clinic last time. This time, I'm an actual doctor's office.

"I'm so excited to see my grandchild. My baby's baby." My mother says with her voice shaking. I look up at her and see that her eyes were watering. "Mom."

"I can't wait to hold my little chubby grand-baby. I'm going to cry." She fans her eyes. "I can't cry! I'm going to ruin my makeup." She pats her under-eye as she sniffles. "Is there a tissue?" She asks as her voice calms down. I pursed my lips and nodded. I pointed to the box full of tissues on the small table next to her seat.

I had an urge to laugh, but I sat there with my lips pursed. I glanced down at my stomach. My small bump grew a bit more these past few weeks. It still wasn't noticeable which I was thankful for. I was nervous to wake up to my pregnant belly on the headlines.

The door opened which pulled me out of my thoughts. A woman in a doctor's uniform walked in with a smile. "Hi. My name is Dr. Julia Archer. I'll be your doctor for the next few months."

I smile softly.

"Okay. I'm going to have you get straight into this, so I don't waste your time. I'm going to need you to lift up your shirt and lie on your back." She instructs as she dims the light to the lowest setting.

She walks around to get to the monitor to the side of the bed and turns it on. Same as before, she warned me about the cool gel that was required to be spread across my lower abdomen. Soon enough, the screen of the monitor was projected on the big wall in front of me for my mother and me to see perfectly clear.

Dr. Archer had grabbed the probe and pressed it against my belly after she warned me about how hard she was supposed to press in order to see the fetus. My heart pounded; nervous to see the baby again. From what I saw last time, it was a small dot in my uterus. Now it was about half the size of my finger. I swallowed nervously.

"Looks like she's at eleven weeks. She's as big as Brussels sprout, right now." Dr. Archer announces happily. I glance towards my mother who had tears fall down her cheek. I reach over to hold her hand in mine. She squeezes it supportively as she smiles down at me. "I'm going to be a grandmother. My angel is going to be a mother." My mother sniffled.

"Would you like to hear the heartbeat of the baby?" Dr. Archer asked. My mother immediately nodded. I was apprehensive at the fact that I was going to hear my baby's heartbeat again. I wasn't ready and I don't think I ever will.

Low thumping noises filled the small room which had my heart rate match the sounds. The little fetus was now beginning to look more like a human; little by little.

"The heart has developed a bit early, but that's perfectly normal. That's why the heartbeat is slower than usual." Dr. Archer explains as she hands me a towelette to wipe off the gel. "I have the pictures saved if you'd like to print them." I nodded immediately. "Yes, I would like to have them."

"Alright. I'll go and get them printed right away. In addition, I want to check in monthly to see you and the baby's progress. Towards the third trimester, that's when I would like to see you every two weeks since you will be closer to the due date." She says as she stands up and grabs the folder she walked in with earlier.

"If you were able to estimate the due date, when will the baby be delivered?" My mother asks.

Dr. Archer purses her lips and shrugs. "Around September, hopefully. It's hard to tell right now." She replies. "Anyway, to schedule your next appointment, talk with the nurse up at the front. I'll bring your pictures out there shortly." She says with a soft smile. Once she closed the door, I glanced towards my mother. She had a wide grin placed on her lips.

I grab my bag and phone as she handed them to me. "How are you feeling?" I ask.

"I should be asking you that right now. I'm happy and praying that the rest of this pregnancy is no harm to your nor the baby." I smiled before she leaned and kissed my forehead.

As the doctor said to do, I did. I went up to the receptionist in the lobby to schedule my next appointment for April. I could've believed it was already March. So much has happened and it's only been three months into the new year. Dr. Archer came out soon after I scheduled the appointment with my ultrasound picture. My eyes watered at the little sprout. That sprout is my child that I'm carrying. I couldn't have been more blessed. At times, I did wish I was never pregnant. Too much was at stake here with my reckless decision. I was ready to become a mother one day, then others, it's like I don't know what it takes to be a mother.

Maybe I regret keeping the baby.
