❤ Em's POV ❤

"Hello Emerald," Angel's icy tone scared me for a moment, and my eyes widened when I saw her demeanour. She looked like the perfect ice-queen. I hadn't seen her for years, and she still looked young. "Hi Angel," I said with steel in my voice as I lowered myself onto the plush chair opposite her. We spent a few seconds scrutinizing each other with our eyes, and then, I noticed she visibly relaxed.

"Why do you need to see me?" She asked coolly, even though I was sure she knew the exact reason. I narrowed my eyes at her, and opened my mouth to speak, "Why are you and Blake doing this?" Her eyes widened with comprehension, and she gaped, finding words to speak.

"You shouldn't have divorced him," She stated coldly, and I narrowed my already-narrowed eyes at her. "Do you know what'd happened?" I raised my voice a little, and she shook her head firmly. She must've thought that I got bored of him or something. "I caught him cheating on me with freaking Willa Queens!" My voice was extremely loud now, and people in the cafe were beginning to give me weird looks.

"Oh. I didn't.. Know that," Angel sounded ashamed, and I pinched my nose bridge, sighing resignedly. "Why did you try to make me jealous?" I demanded, and she shrugged, "You belong together." Psh, if we did belong together, that sleazy, cheating Blake would never have cheated! "He told me he didn't want my help anymore," Angel added. As if it made the situation better.

She began her recount of her meetings with Blake, and I nodded absent-mindedly, thinking about Blake rejecting Angel's offer to help him. What did it signify? Did he finally give up? That would be good, but somewhere deep in my heart, I kind of wanted him to chase me back.

"You know, Blake has a right to visit his son. It's in the law," Angel proceeded to over-casually say that, and my mouth twisted into a grimace. Was it really part of the law? Did I really have to let my innocent Elliot meet that sick, twisted Blake? "I suggest you go contact him about it before the law gets you," She continued, picking up her bag.

"See you around, Emerald," She waved, and then, in an instant, she was gone.

The journey back to my house was quick, because I was contemplating whether I should heed her words, or just shove it to one side and forget about it forever.

When I got home, I saw that Elliot was asleep in his cot, with Miles snoring beside him on the sofa. I smiled, taking out my phone and going to the calling app. I quickly keyed in Blake's number, crossing my fingers that he'd answer. Yes, I still remembered Blake's number even after we broke up. It was forever etched into my mind.

"Hello?" My ex-husband's deep voice rumbled into the phone, and the edges of my lips curved into a small smile. I remembered the times when Blake's voice would just cheer me up in a drop of a hat. "It's Emerald. I heard that it's going against the law to not allow the child to see his biological father," I took a deep breath, "So, you have to meet Elliot."

There was an awkward silence for about a minute, and I pondered whether to hang up on Blake or not. Blake hadn't seen Elliot in person for about a year and a half, and Elliot had definitely grown up a lot. The last time Blake had seen Elliot, was when my baby was around three or four months.

"When can I see Elliot?" Blake's voice came across hurriedly, and I set the phone on speaker as I searched through the calender to see what days I was free. It turned out that I was extremely busy with meetings and such for the next month, and today was going to be one of my only free days, unfortunately.

"I'm only free today.." I trailed off, and Blake quickly told me he was too, and that I could bring Elliot to his place today. I agreed, hanging up. My hands were shaking at the phrase 'his place'. It used to be our big and cosy apartment. Our little sanctuary. And, it was the place where Blake and Willa's bodily fluids were mixed.

Shaking my head to get rid of these thoughts, I walked over to Elliot's cot and prodded him lightly to wake him up. Then, I planted a soft kiss on Mile's head. Immediately, both of them groaned loudly, and opened their eyes simultaneously.

"Miles. I need to bring Elliot to see Blake," I said with disgust, and Miles nodded, too tired to care. If Miles was fully awake, he would've demanded that he go with me, but he was extremely tired. Elliot was lying in his cot, his eyes closing again, and if I didn't take him out soon, he would fall into a deep slumber... Again.

I reached into the cot and lifted Elliot, placing him on the coffee table. Then, I grabbed his going-out clothes from the nearby wardrobe and quickly dressed him. When I was done, I smiled at how cute he looked. Elliot was wearing a navy blue hoodie, with black pants and black boots. I grabbed a small cupcake from my refridgerator, and placed it into a lunch pack in case Elliot was hungry.

Then, I bid Miles goodbye, and led Elliot out of the house.

When I reached that familiar apartment, I felt my knees go weak. It had been my home for the past three years. I still remembered braving the wind and sunshine to get home from college or work. "Momma?" Elliot's small voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and he rubbed his stomach. "Are you hungry?" I asked, bending down and grabbing the cupcake. I gave it to him, and led him into the apartment compound. In about a minute, the cupcake was half eaten, and a quarter of it was smudged onto his mouth.

We got into the lift, and very soon, we were standing at the doorstep of our old apartment.

Elliot looked at me worriedly, as if he knew something bad had happened, but I kept my pokerface. I pressed the doorbell once, surprised to hear the chipmunk version of a jingle. I had set the doorbell to that tone because I'd thought it was really cute, but Blake had always hated it. Why did he still keep it?

In about twenty seconds or so, the door was yanked open to reveal Blake in a blue shirt and blue jeans. His hair was messy, his blue eyes piercing. "You can come in, I guess," He mumbled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his hair with his free hand.

Elliot yanked on my jeans, looking at me for further instruction, and I grasped his hand tightly, leading him in.

The apartment was exactly the same. Not a thing was out of place. It was just like how I remembered it. The sofas were in the same place, the pot of fake flowers on the coffee table still there. "Momma!" Elliot clung to my leg for his dear life, and stared at Blake fearfully. Oh right, he didn't know who the hell Blake was.

"I'm just gonna go to the bathroom. Err, wait here for a moment," Blake said awkwardly, making a beeline for the toilet. I left Elliot on the sofa and started walking around the apartment, checking out whether all the things were still there.

There was one place which I really wanted to check out- The mahogany cupboard in the living room. I dashed towards it, and opened the first shelf. To my surprise, it was still filled with photos in their frames. There was one photo of Blake and I in a seashell photo frame which I'd gotten from a sale. There was one of us three in a blue denim frame. I could clearly remember that day. It was just a few days before I'd found Blake cheating on me, and we were at the park. Blake and I were staring at each other with love-struck eyes, while four-month-old Elliot was drooling and facing the camera. I remembered that Mikaela was taking the photo.

Tears threatened to spill again, and I slowly put the photo back into the cupboard, ransacking it for other things. I noticed a pile of envelopes right inside the cupboard, and being a snoopy person, I grabbed it and took a look. They were all addressed to me.

I heard the flushing of the toilet, and started panicking, stuffing the letters into my handbag. Then, I leapt back to the sofa and made myself look presentable just as Blake walked out, his hands in his jeans.

"I'll leave Elliot with you and come and get him in a few hours," I said, willing my face to remain cold and neutral. Then, I quickly left the house as my floodgates opened.

❤ Blake's POV ❤

What would you say to your son which doesn't know you? 'Hello, I'm your father' Clearly was not suitable. The look on Elliot's face when he saw me screamed 'Stranger!' and right now, he was trying to get as far as he could from me. This toddler is smart.

"Elliot?" I called out to him, and he took a few steps towards me. Could he understand me? "Come here buddy," I waved my arms frantically trying to beckon Elliot over, and finally, he did. He looked at me like I was trash, and then jumped onto the couch, sitting a few inches from me and leaned away.

Maybe, to him I was trash. "I want Dadda," Elliot pouted, crossing his arms. Did he just say he wanted me? Being the dumb person I am, I thought it meant me. "I'm Dadda," I spoke in baby-talk, feeling stupid. I reached out to Elliot, but he leaned back, frowning.

"Dadda not here!" He exclaimed, and started attempting to run away from me. Keyword: Attempting. He couldn't really run, but it was funny. He looked like a chicken trying to be a fish. If you got what I meant. I gave up, leaning back on my chair and closing my eyes in exasperation.

In a moment, I was asleep.

"Blake? I forgive you," Em's soft, etheral voice said from somewhere, and I opened my eyes to see Em looking down at me lovingly. "Really?" My voice came out weird, and she nodded, biting her bottom lip. "What about your boyfriend?" I asked disgruntledly, and she smiled.

"Forget about him. It's just us," She leaned in to kiss me, and I closed my eyes. Before her lips touched mine, she let out a loud, shrill and then, I woke up to face an angry Em, Elliot next to her.

"Why didn't you look after him?" She hissed at me, and I sat up quickly, feeling blood rush to my head. "I did! I was-"

"Whatever. This was a bad idea," She cut me off, grabbed Elliot, and left me there stuttering.

Why did I mess up one of the god-given chances?
