Iroh sat on his bed, going over his plans one more time in his mind. He could feel her near. Encouraging him. He had noticed that she visited less and less often, and he could almost hear her these days, like a whisper on the edge of his consciousness. Then a woman walked through the door, and the radiance dissipated. She carried a tray of food, which she set down carefully.
"It's lunchtime, General Iroh," she said kindly. "And this time, I brought you an extra bowl of rice."
"Thank you, Ming," Iroh said, a sad look coming across his face. "Your little gestures of kindness has made my days in prison bearable." A concerned look came over Iroh's face.
"You don't look so well," he said. "You should take the rest of the day off."
"But, I feel fine," Ming protested.
"Trust me," Iroh's eyes pleaded with her. "You don't want to be here this afternoon. You should go home and rest."
Ming nodded, "you will always have my respect, General Iroh."
With that, she closed the door, and the glowing presence of Amaya's soul returned.
"So many people are about to be hurt," Iroh told her. "Please take care of my nephew."
He could feel her confirmation. He knew she would look after the boy. So he finished his preparations.
