Chapter 14: Run
•
An hour later and Tee was cleaning little grazes on her hands in the bathroom located in Mike's basement. They'd hit the rocks badly when El had saved her from falling to her death.
There was a knock on the door that was left a little ajar, and Tee looked through the mirror to see Mike enter the room. Their eyes connected in the mirror, and Tee could just see that there was something wrong.
She placed down the cloth she had been using to clean her hands and turned towards mike, who was standing close to the door.
"W-What's wrong?" She asks the boy who looks bothered by something. He shakes his head looking down, as if he doesn't know what to say, "Mike?"
"You almost died, and you're asking me what's wrong?" Mike asked, barely being able to believe how selfless the girl was, and how much she cared for people she barely knew.
But the thing was, is that while Mike was someone she barely knew in terms of who he was in front of her, she knew about younger him - their bond. Their friendship.
"What's wrong?" She asks again, ignoring what he'd said as she didn't really know how to reply. He just stood there, staring at her, and he watched as her eyes stared back into his, flicking to his lips every couple of seconds, "is it a-about me?"
"I let go," Mike whispered, breaking the eye contact and looking down at the floor as he stepped closer to her; she did the same, "I... I just can't believe I did."
"You couldn't hold me," Tee comforts him, putting her grazed hand on his shoulder, "b-but we had el."
"What if we didn't?" Mike asked her, "your death would be on me, and I... I can't loose you again, Molly."
Tee sighed sadly, pulling Mike in for a hug as she didn't know what else to say to him about it. Parts of memories were coming back, but not enough to tell him - she didn't want to get his hopes up.
The boy froze for a second, before wrapping his arms around the smaller girl and putting his head atop of hers with a small, sad smile.
"Guys!" Dustin shouted, running into the room, and making Tee and Mike jump away from eachother, "It's Lucas, I think he's in trouble."
Mike and Tee were filled with alarm as they rushed to follow Dustin, who was running towards his supercomm, "Do you remember how he said he was looking for the gate?" Dustin asked Mike as he picked up the communicating device.
"Yeah," Mike said as he turned up the volume to hear shouting from who he presumed was Lucas.
"What if he found it?" Dustin asked as Tee grabbed Mikes arm, trying to hear what the boy was saying.
"What's h-he saying?" Tee asked, trying her hardest to hear distinctive words, but nothing was coming to mind.
"I don't know, he's way out of range," Dustin answers.
"Lucas, if you can hear us, slow down," Mike says into the radio, "We can't understand you."
"Yes, I copy!" They heard his voice, "Do you? They show most elves hen and he!" He shouted, well- it sounded like he shouted, he really shouted "they know about Eleven and Tee," but how were they to know?
"Get out of there!" They heard Lucas shout, before it went staticky, before coming back, "crack den are coming! All of them! The mad hen are coming!"
"Mad hen," Dustin asked, looking up at the two as Eleven started approaching them after cleaning herself up, "Does that mean anything to you? Like a code name or something?"
"The bad men are coming!" Lucas shouted again, and Tee's breath caught in he throat as a stone dropped in her stomach.
"Bad men," Tee gasped, her grip on Mike's arm becoming stronger as her eyes gloss over. They were gonna go back - they were gonna die.
"Oh my god, okay, uh," Mike muttered, putting down the radio, and turning to El and Tee, who was still on his arm, "both of you, stay here, together, okay?"
Without getting a reply, Mike and Dustin ran up stairs, leaving Tee and El together. Tee quickly grabbed El's hand, needing a comfort, and El squeezed it softly.
"We'll be okay," El whispered quietly.
The two stood in silence for a moment, the only thing they could hear was Tee's heavy breathing, before mike and Dustin came running down the stairs, screaming "come on! We've gotta go!"
The four ran out of the house via the back, the two boys grabbing their bikes as they went. The four running as fast as they can away from the house, away from the bad men.
Once they got up a small hill, Tee and Mike got onto Mike's bike as El and Dustin got on Dustin's. Tee looked over to see the bad men and Papa staring at them, and her blood began to boil.
"Go, go, go, go!" Dustin shouted, Mike starting to ride his bike as Tee grabbed on to mike and they sped off, the bad men running back to their vans to follow the kids.
"We can't g-go back," Tee cries as they make it onto a main road, dustin shouting "oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god."
"You aren't," Mike promised Tee as Lucas came back into the radio.
"Dustin! Dustin, do you copy?" He asked as mike and Dustin pushed to cycle faster and faster.
"Yeah, Lucas, they're on us," Dustin told the boy who wasn't present.
"Where are you?" Lucas shouted over the radio.
"Cornwallis," Dustin Answered as Tee tried her best to look around to see if she could spot the bad men.
"Meet me at Elm and Cherry!" Lucas told him.
"Copy," Dustin answered before shouting over to mike, "Elm and Cherry!"
"Okay," Mike shouted back and quickly turned a corner, making Tee hold on to him tighter so she won't fall off. They cut across a road, only to see the lab's vans right there, on their tails.
"Shit!" Tee cried as she saw Papa through one of the windows.
"This way, come on!" Mike said, turning up near houses, they cut through a back garden and down a little hill to a playground. Dustin overtook mike, ringing his bell and shouting "out of the way!" To two girls who were playing.
They cut through the park completely, only to meet Lucas on Elm and Cherry.
The three all stopped, huffing our short breaths, relieved as they thought they had the bad men off their back, and the group was back together again.
"Lucas!" Mike cheered as Tee and El looked around.
"Where are they?" Lucas asked the two boys.
"I don't know," Dustin stammers, "I think we lost them."
"No!" Tee shouts as the vans came round a corner behind them, the three boys shouted curses and screamed at eachother to go.
The vans started getting closer and closer, and the boys were screaming louder and louder. Suddenly a car appeared in front of them, all of them screaming as Tee and El shared a look, nodding.
El flipped the van so it went over their heads as Tee made the power lines above them completely Blow, releasing 40,000 amps of electricity onto the flying car, making it go up in flames as it landed.
The boys all looked at the two girls in shock as they continued to cycle away - the bad men gone for now.
-
The group of five arrived at the junk yard, where they had previously had an argument. The three boys stopped pedalling, Tee and El feeling light headed as they stopped.
Mike got off his bike before helping Tee sit on the ground, breathing heavily.
El walked over to Tee, sitting next to her as Dustin spoke up for the first time.
"Holy shit! Did did you see what El did to that van? And Tee to the power lines?" Dustin asked, clear excitement in his voice.
"No, Dustin, we missed it," Mike said sarcastically.
"I mean that was-" Dustin stammered, still on utter shock.
"Awesome," Lucas spoke up, looking at the two girls who looked back at him, "It was awesome."
Lucas walked round and kneeled in front of the two girls, "Everything I said about you guys being traitors and stuff... I was wrong." He admitted, "I'm sorry."
"Friends... friends don't lie," El told him as he put a hand on his shoulder, "I'm sorry, too."
"Me, too," Mike said to Lucas, holding out his hand for his friend to shake. Lucas stood up, smiling as he shakes Mike's hand. The two back friends again.
