Chapter 12
That guy.. He deceived me again!
But wait.. I can always sneak out, right?
But, that would mean breaking my word with him..
Argh.. It's hurting my conscience. How annoying! Anyway, when the opportunity rises, I'll stab him and go, go, go!
I kept my dagger i between my pants so, that it is kept hidden and I can always take it out when I could kill him.
As I went out of the room, I headed down stairs to see them all working. But, Kaneki-kun's not here..
"Good morning, Yukari-chan." Yoshimura-san greeted me with a smile.
"Oh.. Good morning." I greeted him back with a little smile.
Everyone looks busy.. I have more questions to ask, though.
"May I ask questions?" I asked.
"Um, sure but, maybe I could entertain them later? I need to attend some business here in Anteiku." He said.
"Okay, I understand." I bowed my head.
For now, what should I do? Hmmm.. Maybe, I'll take a tour around, huh? I'll find a way back to my apartment. I went outside of the shop. I started walking around and observed this place.
It is indeed very peaceful. It seems really safe.
But, walking around here makes me flinch. I can feel eyes on me as I walk. I can sense danger. I need to get out of here..
I walked briskly as I felt a little scared. I placed my hand on the place where I hid my dagger. Suddenly, I can feel some people walking behind me and on the other side of the road. I think they're following me..? Kaneki-kun did say that from now on, my life is at stake of danger.
Argh.. I made a wrong decision again. I don't want to get hurt..! I started running as I felt scared to the maximum degree.
They all started running as well. As I thought, they're following me! They're Ghouls?!
Someone, please help me! Help me!
KEN!!
*Thud*
I bumped into a person. He's taller and his body seems tough. This scent is very familiar..
No, I know it. This scent is.. That's right, it's Kaneki-kun.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
Without a second thought, I snuggled into him. I can hear the sound of my heart beating fast as I fear being hurt by the Ghouls.
I closed my eyes so, I could calm myself in his body. Suddenly and unexpectedly, I found his arms wrapped around me. I felt his warmth.
The heat rose up to my face and my heart beat faster. But, I feel secured in his arms.. Damn it..
Soon, the Ghouls who were following disappeared. I wonder what he did..
"They're gone." He said.
I quickly pushed him out of embarrassment. I faced away as I tried to hide my flushed face. It'll be a misunderstanding.. It's true that I still like Ken but, that doesn't mean that I like the present Ken now, right?
"T-Thanks.. Then, good bye.." I bowed my head, still continuing to look away.
I turned around. Suddenly, he took my arm. His arm was very strong so, I couldn't break from his grip.
"Now that you're here, won't you walk around with me?" He asked.
"Will you let me go home if I refuse?" I asked.
"No. I get what I want." He replied with a poker face.
I sighed in defeat. I'll just go along with him for a while. Well, it'd better than being hunted by some carnivores.
He slightly smiled. He started walking and I began to follow him. But, there's an incredible awkward atmosphere between us.
He's not talking to me. Come on, be a man and start talking!
While crossing the road, there was a huge crowd of people and it's really hard to move. Kaneki-kun is walking at a fast pace.
I bumped and got pushed by the people around me. Argh! This is why, I hate crossing the road on weekdays. Slowly, Kaneki-kun's figure got small as he was going father and father away from me.
"W-Wait!" I called.
But, he didn't listen. He kept his eyes in front and ignored me like I'm just a wind.
In a matter of seconds, he completely disappeared from my sight. I looked around. I felt eyes on me again which made me incredibly uneasy. Ghouls again?
I searched through the crowd thoroughly but, I couldn't find Kaneki-kun. My eyes became teary thinking that I might be attacked by those binge eaters.
"Who're you looking for, idiot?"
Someone tapped me lightly at my head from behind. I felt relief that it was Kaneki-kun who was behind me.
"Where have you been going to?!" I asked as I was irritated.
"I should be asking you that. You're wandering off on your own." He said in monotone.
"Bah! You suck! I called for you but, you didn't even look at me!" I said.
"I decided to pick on you because you walk too slowly." He said with his usual poker face.
"Hah?! You're so unreasonable! I'm going home!" I said in anger.
He suddenly took my hand and squeezed it.
"That's why, this time you're not gonna get lost." He smiled.
The Ken I knew from back then.. it's appearing.. My heart is racing. I can't help but look away from him.
To help get over my embarrassment, I looked at the way he dressed himself up. He was wearing a black hood with an eye patch. Huh? Is there something wrong with his eye?
"Why are you wearing an eye patch?" I asked.
"That's because, my left eye turns red out of my control when I'm hungry or when I'm in danger." He replied.
He has a strong grip into my hand and it's making me blush.. Wait, this is the time to ask questions, right?
"Um.. May I ask some questions?" I asked.
"You just did." He said in monotone.
"Tsk. Don't be a prick!" I said.
"Fine. Now, start talking." He said.
"Before I turned 15, I'm having nightmares and my body changes quickly like, I became fair for like... 3 days. And also, my eyes had been more vibrant. Why is that?" I asked.
"That's just the signs of maturing of a Rose Apple. As you experienced, on the growth of a Rose Apple, she becomes beautiful until she matures."
He stared at me intently.
"Now that I look closely, you sure have changed a lot." He chuckled.
"What, are you insulting me?" I asked as I frowned.
He took strands of my hair. He stared at them with gentle eyes.
"No. You've become very beautiful." He smiled at me.
My heart raced and the heat rose up to my face.
"Your expressions have changed into the matured ones. You smell like a Rose and you look very alluring. It makes me want to eat you." He chuckled.
Ahh.. That's right, he's a Ghoul. For a second, I forgot what he was. He's a murderer.
I removed my hands from his.
"As I thought, I feel more comfortable this way.." I faked a smile.
He looked at me with a disappointed expression.
"Okay. Suit yourself." He said as he started walking again.
After a few minutes, the atmosphere got heavy again. It was so awkward.. Suddenly, he stopped in front of a cafe.
"Wanna get something to eat?" He asked.
My stomach suddenly told me that I'm hungry. Crap! Why now? Stupid! Ah, that's right I didn't eat any breakfast! It made a grumbling sound.
"Ah!" I covered my stomach in embarrassment.
He stared at me for a while and snickered.
"Come on." He said.
He took my hand and we went inside.
