——(your p.o.v)——

as soon as you saw the yiga disappear, you ran to link. as you neared, you saw link clutch his stomach and he fell to the ground, his tunic getting stained with his blood. you ran faster, desperately wanting to help your dear friend.

"link! let me help you!"

link groaned in pain, and looked up towards you. he gave you a weak smile and you went by his side, holding him.

you didn't care if your face was going red again from touching him, you didn't care right now. you needed to help link and you decided to take care of the blushing later. you held onto link's arm and placed one arm around his waist, trying to hoist him up.

everyone from the stable came rushing down from rito village, making their way towards you. you managed to get link to stand up and stumbled over to one of the stable beds. you heard people start to murmur behind you as you entered the building. you let link lie down on the bed slowly, and you examined his injuries and bruises. people were whispering things like 'he must be the hero' and 'did you see those skills? he's no ordinary hylian'. you stared at link. you'll ask him about it later.

"link...i'm amazed that you could even walk! look at you! that was one strange yiga member, huh?"

you tried to converse with him, even though you knew he needed to rest. but you wanted to know what happened. link sat up, scrunching up his face when his back came in contact with the back of the stable bed. he turned his tired gaze over to you, as you grabbed a small stool from a table and sat beside him. you were holding some bandages as well.

"y-yeah...i've never seen him before. but whatever he is, he's dangerous."

-

"you put up a strong fight, link. i-i'm proud of you...he was bigger than you as well."

-

"y/n..."

-

"yes? i'm right here..."

-

"i want to ask you something."

-

"i-um sure."

-

"come travel with me."

link's words took you off guard and you widened your eyes. link wants you to travel with him? why?

"link-"

-

"please. the yiga said that he would go after you a-as well."

-

"link, i-"

-

"i don't want-no, i can't see you get hurt. you've done so much for me. let me repay you by protecting you until i've dealt with him."

-

"link, i was going to say yes anyway."

you saw link smile slightly and you cautiously, and carefully reached out for his hand. you saw link's cheeks go a little rosy when you connected hands. he tried to hold onto yours, but his hands were clammy and sore. you held his calloused hand with both of yours and held it tightly. never breaking eye contact.

"get some rest, i'll go talk to the stable manager and get some water and food for you. i'll also wrap up your bandages, don't worry."

-

"thank you."

you nodded and stood up, letting go of his hand. feeling the warmth escape your palms, you turned to walk off. link's hand grabbed your wrist.

"y/n...really. thank you."

you gleamed at link's appreciation and grinned at him.

link slowly let his eyelids drop, and he fell into a deep sleep.

— later —

link woke up, and saw you walking over to him.

"morning, sleepy head. you finally woke up!"

link groaned and yawned.

he sat up in the bed and no longer felt any pain in his back or stomach. he looked at you and spoke to you in a tired voice.

"what happened?"

-

"well, your injuries really tired you out, so..."

-

"so...?"

-

"so...um, you slept for two days straight."

link's face was probably the funniest thing you've ever seen. he looked like a kid that had forgotten his lunch or something. he was so shocked, he jumped out of bed but immediately groaned and fell back onto the soft surface. you laughed hysterically and link looked away, embarrassed. he asked you if you found out what traysi was talking about and you told him that there were rumours that the hero had returned.

— later —

you and link waved goodbye to the stable manager and link took out his horse.

he was signing the papers, when you spun around, hands behind your back. you walked off for a little, taking in the beautiful features of rito village. you marvelled at how wonderful the peaceful village looked, the tall bird-like pillar being the centre connecting all of rito village. the sky was gorgeous, it was around 6 am and the sun was rising. it's light orange and yellow streaks in the white of the clouds made you feel refreshed. you watched the sunrise in awe.

you were extremely happy, not only you were traveling with link, but link talked about how he needed to go to all of the regions of hyrule and you were very excited by that. you've never really been to the other regions such as gerudo desert and zora's domain, near mt. lanayru. you usually hung around the tabantha region, you even stayed with the rito sometimes.

the only thing you remember was you waking up in rito village with no memory, even though that was around 3 years ago. you didn't want to tell link this, at least not yet. it was a bit too personal and you thought he might find you strange after hearing your past. link explained that he doesn't need to go to goron city since he already went. you wondered why he needed to go to all of the towns and villages, he never told you why...

"y/n."

you spun around at hearing link's soft voice, with a big smile and link couldn't help but gape at how lovely you looked in this very moment. the sun was rising behind you and your smile brightened up the whole land. he thought you were the sun for a short moment.

you saw link holding the reigns of his horse and you jogged over to pat her on the nose. she neighed happily, and you chuckled. link looked at you admiringly.

"ready?"

you nodded, but then shook your head.

"what's wrong?"

-

"i forgot to talk to kass!"

-

"who's...kass?"

-

"he's a good friend of mine, and he said he'd be at rito stable! but i didn't see him..."

-

"..."

-

"oh well, he's usually all over hyrule! i'm sure i can speak to him later."

you started walking over to the small pillar-like islands.

for most of the way, you and link talked a lot. you talked about all kinds of things such as least favourite monster to deal with and what flower you liked best.

you told him you really loved blue nightshade.

you loved the way it glowed during the night and how it's beautiful blue colour stood out from the ground. you really did love that flower. you never really knew why you were so drawn to it, but it was your favourite.

before you walked into rito village, link left his horse on one of the pillar-islands and let her graze in the grass near a small pond to relax.

— later —

you and link made your way up the village, talking to most of the ritos on the way. link bought some cooking ingredients here and there, and bought more arrows. you watched him. you still wondered about why he needed so many...

before you reached to the top, link saw a wooden landing and decided to go stand on it. he wanted to scout the area and you went with him, you both admired the view in front of you.

"like i said link, the views from here are truly mesmerising."

-

"..."

you turned to link and you saw that he had spaced out and wasn't moving. you tried waving your hands in front of him but nothing was happening. you tried calling out to him, but he didn't answer. he just kept staring off into the view...

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

the young hero walked onto the rito's landing, staring up into the sky watching vah medoh fly around the village. guarding it.

it was a nice sunny day in rito village and link breathed in the fresh cold air.

suddenly, a gust of wind was rushing past link with such force and he tried to stay balanced. he was waving his arms around slightly.

all of a sudden, a certain raven coloured rito flew up from below, directly in front of link. the rito flew down and landed on the railings in front the young hylian, crossing his wings across his feathery chest. link stood still and watched him.

"impressive, i know."

link tried not to roll his eyes at revali.

revali wore a  bright blue scarf, and had rito armour on, indicating that he was the champion of the rito. some of the rito's blue feathery-hair was braided and ended in small green rings. he had a large yellow and blue bow on his back as well.

"very few can achieve a mastery of the sky."

link only listened, he never really talked to revali anyway. but he always listened to him nonetheless.

revali started to gesture dramatically what he was saying with his wings.

"yet i have made an art of creating an updraft that allows me to soar."

revali had a lot of confidence in his voice and link wondered if he'd still talk like that when calamity ganon eventually arrives.

"it's considered to be quite the masterpiece of aerial techniques, even among the rito."

link blinked a few times, not really knowing how to respond to revali boasting about himself. but link still saw him as a good friend and teammate. even though the bird was very reluctant to working with him.

"with proper utilisation of my superior skills, i see no reason why we couldn't easily dispense with ganon,"

"now then, my ability to explore firmament is certainly of note..."

the rito warrior jumped off the wooden rails, and walked towards link while holding his arms behind his back.

revali suddenly went to link's side with such poise and faced him. link turned his head, watching him intensely. revali had a very 'high' type voice, sounding like he was on a higher level than everyone else.

"but let's not--pardon me for being so blunt--let's not forget the fact that i am the most skilled archer of all the rito."

link raised his eyebrow slightly, he could not believe his ears. revali really had that much of a big ego, huh?

"yet despite these truths, it seems that i have been tapped to merely assist you."

yep. link thought. revali circled around link and kept talking about how he's a lot more skilled than him and link couldn't help but tune out for a little.

until he said something.

"all because you happen to have that little darkness-sealing sword on your back. after all, all you ever do is hang around that hylian girl! i can't believe you're the princess' appointed knight."

link's ocean like eyes stared straight into revali's bright green ones. he raised his eyebrow a little.

"she, too, is my friend but all she ever does is talk about how great you are."

link felt small amounts of heat making its way onto his face.

"she's always like 'link is always so brave' and 'link's skills when battling is so impressive!'"

link smiled a little to himself.

he was also trying not to chuckle at revali's impression on his friend.

"but that sword, i mean,"

link raised his brow.

"it's just... asinine."

link placed his focus back onto revali and kept listening to his complaining.

revali looked back at link and stared at him, raising his yellow eyebrows.

"unless...you think you can prove me wrong?"

was revali suggesting a challenge? link honestly doesn't have time to do such childish things. calamity ganon was pretty much on hyrule's doorstep! revali suddenly shoved his face right in front link's, trying to intimidate the hero.

"maybe we should just settle this one on one? and maybe she can watch as well. then she'll tell us who's the better fighter."

revali looked towards the sky, pretending to think.

"but where...? oh i know!"

link rolled his eyes. already knowing what the raven coloured bird was going to say.

"how about up there!?"

his wing gestured to their right and link gazed upon the magnificent divine beast. suddenly revali broke into a loud and mocking laughter.

"oh! you must pardon me."

revali did little quotation marks when he said 'pardon' and was smiling like an idiot. link huffed in annoyance. even though revali acted like this all the time, he didn't need to always make jokes about him. especially at such a tense time. revali needed to be more serious.

"i forgot you have no way of making it up to that divine beast on your own!"

revali spread his dark blue wings, and flew up with speed. link looked up towards revali, watching him soar to vah medoh.

"good luck sealing the darkness!"

and just like that, revali flew off and left link on the landing. but link only thought about one thing.

did she really say all of those things about him?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"link!"

link blinked his eyes and felt you shaking him. he placed his hands on your arms to stop you.

"are you alright?"

link just nodded, his silence really bothered you.

"link, if something's bothering you, you can tell me. okay?"

link stayed quiet and just stared at you.

"i know we've only known each other for a few days, but i just want you to know that you can trust me."

-

"and i do y/n."

-

"do you want to talk about it?"

-

"uh-well, it's kind of-it's really-i can't exactly-"

-

"it's alright, link. you don't have to tell me now."

but little did you know, link desperately wanted to tell you that he was actually the hero from all those years ago and that he just got a memory flashback. besides, he was here in rito village to take back vah medoh. he was the hero that was supposed to defeat calamity ganon.

link turned around and started walking towards the chief's little hut and you followed eagerly. maybe you'll finally find out why he's in rito village.
