Peter's POV
"-you don't get to just waltz in here and act like you own the place!!" "Yeah? Well news flash. I do own the place!!" "Oh just because your name is on the building? Well guess what?!? I designed it!!" "It's MY company!!" I rolled over in bed and covered my face with my pillow, this is the fourth time this week that I woke up to my parents fighting, and before that it was a continues thing, I thought they were getting along more after the divorce. But like always, I'm wrong. "KAREN, soundproof please." I say as my head starts pounding from all the yelling. "FRIDAY, how long have they been fighting this time?" I asked as I rolled out of bed due to KAREN opening the blinds allowing the sunshine to flood in through the window. "About 3 hours Peter." FRIDAY said as i got dressed, "okay, could you do me a favor?" I asked as I stepped into the elevator, "of course Peter, what would you like me to do?" She asked as the door closed, "can you take me straight down to safety instead of throwing me into the crossfire?" I asked as the elevator started to go down to the garage where Happy was waiting, usually it would stop on whatever floor my parents were on but not when they had been fighting for 3 hours already. "Of course Peter. Mr. Hogan is waiting for you downstairs in the car already." The AI said cheerfully but also a little sad, "thanks FRI." I said as I exited the elevator and got in the car.
"Look Pete, I heard the fighting this morning. Don't try and act like it didn't bother you because I can tell that it does. You're not talking my ear off, you're hiding in the floorboard." Happy said as he looked back at me in the rearview mirror. "Alright, you know what? You're not going to school today! Let's go do something fun!!" Happy said as he got back onto the highway and drove away from my school.
Happy's POV
That was fun, we should do this more often. I look in the rearview and see peter passed out in the backseat, sensory overloads must really tire him out, next time we do this I'll try and pick something that won't be as bad on his senses. I forgot everything was dialed up to 11 for him. I close the window separating the front seat from the back seat when I hear my phone ringing. I answer immediately after seeing the caller ID 'Tony Stark' "Happy? What's going on? Where's Peter? I got a call saying he wasn't at school and Ned says that he hasn't seen him all day. Where's my kid Hogan?" Tony asked all in one breath, he sounds like he's on the verge of a panic attack or just coming off of one. "Relax Tony, I've got him. He's safe, he had a sensory overload and right now he's sleeping it off in the backseat. I'm bringing him back to the tower now. We should be there in about 10 minutes." I said trying to calm the billionaire down, I don't think it worked though. "good. He didn't hear anything this morning did he?" Tony asked sounding a bit sad "if you're asking if he heard you and Pepper fighting, then yes. He heard, I think he was crying when he got in the car this morning. That's why I didn't take him to school. He's 14, just ask him which parent he wants to live with. All of this fighting between you and his mother isn't good for him. I'm about 5 minutes from the compound now. I'll see you in a bit." I said before hanging up and opening the window revealing a very sleepy looking spider human. "How'd you sleep kid?" I asked quietly knowing he was still coming down from a sensory overload. He shrugged "okay, I guess. I want to lay in my bed and do nothing the rest of the day. Are we almost home?" He asked yawning immediately after "yeah, we're almost home. Go back to sleep, I'll carry you up to your room when we get there." I said, he nodded his head once and went back to sleep within seconds.
Peter's POV
I woke up to the sound of yelling. "He's my son! He's coming with me!!" My mother yelled at my father "He's OUR son and he's staying with me!!" My father yelled back "I have an idea, why don't you two stop fighting so Peter can sleep. And then ask him who he wants to live with when he wakes up." Happy said and thank goodness for that because the yelling stopped immediately after. Sometimes I feel like Happy is more my father than my actual father is.
I couldn't get back to sleep so I decided to go downstairs and talk to my parents for the first time since the divorce was finalized. "Hey mom, hey dad!" I said as I sat down on the couch across from where they were sitting. They were both on opposite sides of the room and I was in the middle of them. "Your parents have something they want to ask you. But since they can't speak without fighting I'll ask for them." Happy said taking a seat next to me on the couch, I looked at him and then at my parents, I think I know what the question is. "Which parent do you want to live with? Your mom or your dad?" Happy asked, I looked back and forth between my parents. I can't do this right now. I jumped up and ran to the elevator. "FRIDAY take me to the lobby." I said after the door closed, "of course Peter." FRIDAY said as the elevator began going down. I ran out of the elevator and out of the building I didn't know where I was going I just kept running.
Ned's POV
I was sitting in the living room of my apartment when I heard running coming from the hall, most likely one of the neighbor kids going up or down the stairs. At least that's what I thought it was until I heard rapid knocking on the door, I got up and looked through the peephole. "Peter? What's going on? Get in here!" I said as I opened the door and pulled my best friend into my apartment and lead him back to my room. I sat down on the bed and motioned for peter to sit next to me. "What's going on?" I asked noticing that he was crying as he tried to slow his breathing back to normal. "(Sob)They...(sob) choose...(sob) can't...(sob)" Peter said in between sobs but I could easily understand what he was trying to say. "They want you to choose between them but you can't do that?" I said it more as a question than I had meant to, he nodded his head 'yes' i pulled him into a hug and held him until his crying subsided. "Thanks Ned." Peter mumbled into my shoulder "sure, what are friends for?" I asked but it was a rhetorical question and Peter knew that which is why he didn't answer.
I woke up earlier than I usually do, mainly because Peter was screaming in his sleep. He stayed the night last night so that he could avoid having to see his parents, this was a recurring thing ever since they started having problems. "Peter, wake up! It's just a dream!" I said in a whisper yell as I shook my best friend out of his sleeping state. Peter shot up and immediately I wrapped him into a hug. "It's okay man, let's get ready for school." I said getting out of bed and dragging peter with me, he fell face first onto the floor, but didn't move otherwise. I rolled my eyes at him and threw him one of the shirts that he left here for when he randomly decides to stay here, which happens a lot more than you would think.
Peter's POV
"You're coming over today after school right?" I asked Ned as we walked to our last class of the day. "Of course man! I wouldn't leave you to do this by yourself even if you paid me." He said, I laughed but sadly I wasn't the only one who heard Ned's response. "Well that's good since penis can't pay you because he's a broke orphan with no life." Flash said from behind us but luckily we were right next to our classroom and Flash's next class was on the other side of campus. "Don't listen to him Pete. He knows nothing about you Peter Stark." Ned says in a mumbled tone to where only I would be able to hear him thanks to my heightened senses. sometimes being a spider human thing comes in handy.
After what seemed like forever, the bell finally rang. Ned and I ran out of the classroom and made our way out of the school building. "Hey Happy!" I said as Ned and I climbed into the backseat of the black SUV that was parked in front of the school. "Hey Peter. Welcome back to my SUV Ned." Happy said making the both of us laugh at his odd greeting for Ned.
Several excruciating minutes of silence later, the car finally pulled up to the tower. "Good luck kid. Let me know how it goes. And if you need a place to stay after telling them your decision then just give me a call and I'll be glad to take you back to my place with me for as long as you want." Happy said as we got out of the car, "thanks Happy!" I said as Ned pushed me out of the car. "You're welcome Pete! You're ALWAYS welcome. Remember anytime you need me, no matter what the situation. I'll be there." Happy said and that made my decision crystal clear.
"WHAT?!?" my mom and dad said at the same time, causing me to jump due to my senses being dialed up to 11, Ned walked over and put a hand on my shoulder to let me know everything was okay. "I said I choose neither of you." i said, my parents continued to stare at me dumbstruck. "I can't pick between the both of you. At least not right now. I'm going to stay with Happy for a while just to wrap my head around things. I don't know how long it will take me to figure things out, but when I do... You'll be the first ones to know." I explained as I walked over to the elevator with Ned, dialing Happy's number when the door closed. "Hey kid, I figured you would call. I'm still out front. Just come on down." Happy said when he picked up the phone. I smiled at that, he waited, of course he waited. Happy knows me WAY too well. "Thanks for waiting Happy. Is it alright if I stay with you for a while?" I asked even though I already knew the answer. "Of course Peter, I told you that you could before you got out of the car earlier." Happy said as he pulled out into traffic to take Ned back home before we went back to the house of Hogan.
~ 1 Year and 4 months later ~
Tony's POV
I can't believe Peter still hasn't decided yet. It's been a year already and it's been hell not having the kid around. Happy says that the kid is doing fine and that he's still trying to wrap his head around everything that has happened in the past 2 years. Come on Pete just come home. "Please babe, bring my kid back. I don't care what kind of protests he makes. Just please, bring him back. I'm dying here." I say into the phone as I work on the most current model of my Iron man armor. "Stop being dramatic Tony, you're not dying. And I already told you Peter has to want to come back when he's ready. I'm sorry. I gotta go pick him up from school. If you want I can come by and get you first and you can come along." Happy says and I can hear the car door slam as he gets in his car. "No, you don't have to do that. Can you just bring him by the tower? Tell him I need his help on some upgrades to my suit." I say remembering how Peter's face used to light up at the mention of working on one of my suits. "Alright, I'll see what I can do. I love you Tony, and remember be patient. He'll make a decision soon you just have to have patience." Happy said, "I don't have that." I said in a voice defiance "believe me, I know. just please Tony, don't rush him on this." Happy said, then I heard the telltale beeping "he hung up on me." I said in a sad tone, "it wouldn't be the first time sir." my AI said in a cheerful voice, I let out a small laugh, "and it probably won't be the last." I said as I once again examined the ring I had designed special for Happy. I really hope he says yes. I might actually die if he doesn't.
Peter's POV
"It's been a year Petey, you have to tell your mom that you decided to live with your dad at some point. Why not do it now? I'll even go with you if you want." Ned said as well walked outside to look for the Black SUV that came to pick me up everyday, much to the confusion of everyone who stood outside after school everyday, because why would Peter 'Parker' the 'orphan' have such a fancy car coming to get him everyday. "I know I have to tell her, but I kind of want to tell my dad first." I said as I looked around the parking lot one more time, it wasn't like Happy to be late. "Speaking of your dad, I heard he had a new boyfriend. How are you handling that?" Ned asked, moving closer to me because he knew that if Happy was late something bad must have happened or is about to happen and Ned's kind of protective. "Oh right! I forgot to tell you. My bad!" I said causing Ned to look at me with a confused expression. "My dad is dating none other than his head of security Happy Hogan." I said and speak of the devil there's that black SUV I was looking for. I kiss Ned in the cheek before running over to the car, I look back and he's just standing there with a dumbfounded look on his face, I smile and get in the front seat of Happy's car, something I've been doing quite often lately. "So, you and Ned?" Happy sad in sort of a mocking tone, "so, you and my dad?" I countered as I tried to hide the blush making its way to my face, Happy was silent the rest of the way because he hadn't known that I knew about him and my dad dating. But I mean come on, it's kind of obvious.
"Here goes." I said taking a deep breath as I stepped off the elevator and walk to my fathers lab. "Hey dad! Happy said you needed help with some upgrades?" I said as I sat down next on and empty stool next to the suit but still a few several feet away from my dad. "Well I did, but now I need your help with another thing." He said, looking up from the repulser he had been working on. "By now I'm sure you've heard that I have a new boyfriend and you're smarter than me and Bruce combined so you probably figured out who it is already." He said, watching me as I nodded along to tell him he was right. "So here's what I need your help with. I want to ask Happy to marry me." He said, and I almost fell off of the stool i was sitting on, okay fine I DID fall off. "Marry? Dad he'll definitely say yes, you don't need my help. Happy is crazy about you." I said rambling a little because of the new information. "Thanks Pete, but I'm still nervous. Do you think you could set up a dinner for me, you know sorry of like the one you did for Pepper and I a few years ago for our anniversary?" He said, I immediately jumped up from the floor, but I used too much force and ended up on the ceiling. "So that's a yes?" My dad asked seeing the wide grin on my face. "Heck yeah it's a yes! Of course I'll help. Wait can I bring Ned? That doesn't matter, I'll still do it. But seriously can I bring Ned?" I asked trying to figure out how to get off the ceiling without landing on my face... Again. "Thank you Peter, and of course you can bring Ted!" He said, I couldn't hold back my laughter. 8 years and he STILL doesn't know Ned's name. "Ned, dad. His name is Ned." I said still laughing.
Hearing that my dad was going to propose to the man I was currently living with gave me a great idea for how to tell them I want to live with my dad instead of my mom, but it will only work if Happy says yes. Which he most likely, probably, hopefully, maybe, definitely will say yes. I sent a text to Ned explaining in great detail exactly how I was going to do it and Ned said that it was a great idea and that it would confuse my dad at first so he wants to be there to see that happen. I told him that he was invited and that he would be helping me get everything ready for the proposal to happen. I told him to meet me at Stark tower at 11:30 am on Saturday and he said he would be there. So since it was 3 in the morning and we had school the next day I stopped bothering him so he could sleep, then I slipped out the window to go do what i do best....
Kick names and take ass. Dang it! Will I ever get that right? I meant take names and kick ass, maybe I should just say beat the baddies from now on.
