PAST
"With unconditional love pouring out of my eyes, I wait
I wait and I take a little time to drown in those eyes
I wait and I take a little time to fall in love with him again and again
And forever make him mine."
"Like a river flows surely to the sea,
Darling, so it goes something's meant to be"
Generally, when the music is being played, I would the shut the whole world off and only listen to the beautiful melody, but this time my ears could clearly hear the loud raspy coughing sound on top of the slow song that was still being played with Jake only centimetres away from me.
Oh shit. My life couldn't go worse. Why does this always happen to me?
Because you are stupid!!
Yeah, I am sure about that.
So, yes...there was a "gate crasher", but more like a "door crasher", when Jake and I were dancing, my feet on his and our lips almost touching.
And judging from the familiar brown eyes, masculine body and the uniform, this "gate crasher" was none other than Jake's father.
Realizing who had caught us red-handed, Jake moved as far away from me as possible.
Yeah great work, Jake. This move will surely save us from some embarrassment.
"I see that you have brought a guest over at our house." He said eyeing Jake. His voice resembled Jake's, but only deeper and thicker.
Remind me, why did I come here in the first place?
I could clearly see the tension reflecting in Jake's eyes as he looked at his father. I remember seeing Jake's father for the first time in the café when he got himself into a fight with some old guys who were harassing me.
Jake's father radiates power and intimidation which scares the shit out of me whenever I meet him.
Jake cleared his throat before he began to say, "Yeah Dad.....um....she's Sarah. Sarah Jones."
"Yeah, the girl from the café" His father said with a tone which was not good.
"Hello, Mr. Smith. Um actually-" I moved forward to start a conversation which would have gone way too awkward if it weren't for Mr. Smith to interrupt.
"Say, Sarah, are you the daughter of Mr.John Jones?"
I stared at him confused for a second contemplating as to how did he know the name of my father and I could also feel Mr.Smith grabbing the attention of Jake.
Then, I said, "Yes."
This one word was enough for him to intensify his glare on me from the moment he walked in on me and Jake. But this time, it was different. It was more evil and it felt like rage and vengeance stared back at me instead of his eyes. Without saying another word, he looked once at the floor then at the window behind us, as he thought something really hard giving me an impression that he was controlling himself from doing anything. But what? Without saying anything further he left the room leaving empty as it was before he even barged on us, filling it with anger and confusion.
What was wrong with him? What did I do? Or more importantly, what did my father do which made him so cold and rude?
Because clearly, when I agreed to be the daughter of my father, he lost his shit. There had to be something wrong.
Not until I heard the slamming of the front door and the engine of car being started, did I resume speaking.
"What was that?"
"I have no idea." Jake said still looking at the door as if demanding some answers from it.
"How could you have no idea? He is your father, you must be knowing something."
He turned his attention towards me and looked in my eyes for a long time before speaking, "My father and I are not actually sharing that so-called "father and son" relationship."
"Oh" was all I could think to say for who would think that for some unknown reason Jake would not be on speaking terms with his father?
I could have asked why, but then I stopped myself from doing it, because it had to be a major reason for them not talking and I am not sure if Jake is ready to tell me. I am surprised even that he would tell me that they are not speaking terms.
But I do not stop myself from wondering about what could have possibly happened between the son and the father that they practically stopped talking?
I have never failed to notice that whenever it comes down to family, Jake becomes serious and there is this coldness in his eyes that is much more intimidating than anything. I remember him telling me about his parents getting separated a long time ago but I also remember the hurt and pain in his eyes with which he spoke about them. What must have happened in his family to make him this cold?
And like every other time, I could see the coldness in his eyes and I could feel the barrier coming alive around him that he would flawlessly guard down whenever he was with me.
Tired from the awkward silence, I said, "I think we should go."
"What? It's just been half an hour. Why do you want to go this early?" He said clearly taken aback by my poor ice-breaking statement.
"Because my friends will be waiting for me, plus I think it will take more time reaching the community hall."
Before he could argue anymore, I started to make my way towards the door, because I have spent hours getting ready for the event, there's no chance I am missing it, even if I loathe it. Also, I don't want everyone in the school to think that I have a crush on Alex, as promised by Lisa, if I don't go.
Halfway through the stairs, I realized Jake reluctantly taking tiny steps behind me like a little child. I bit back a smile as I left him with no other choice than agreeing with me. I made my way outside the front door towards the single Maserati parked on the far end of the ground.
I managed to walk far from the edge of the swimming pool careful not to fall in it, when I heard Jake calling my name.
I turned around to find Jake jogging his way towards me and stop as he came in front of me.
"What?" I asked raising my eyebrow.
"Are you....are you sure that you want to go right now?" He asked as he took a step towards me and scratched the back of his head.
"Yes." Although I took a step back I said it assuringly because this trick is not going to work on me anymore.
He took a deep breath before whispering in my ear, "Then you leave me no other option."
Before I could even furrow my eyebrows and ask what he meant by that, he firmly grabs my waist and does not even hesitate to push my body back and into the cold freezing water.
