I gazed at the tall blonde man standing right in front of me, staying silent.
Erwin stared at me with his deep blue eyes, his gaze unwavering. "(Y/N)? You called me. Is something wrong?"
I fiddled my fingers, nervous and hesitant to say what I wanted to. Erwin's sharp eyes did not miss a thing.
"You can tell me anything. Please, speak."
I closed my eyes briefly, taking a deep breath to gather my thoughts. "Erwin, I really don't know if I should be asking you this."
"Just ask." Was Erwin's gentle reply, his voice soothing and deep.
I smiled nervously as I finally asked him the question. "I-is there something wrong.... with Levi?"
A small 'huh?' left Erwin, but I continued speaking. "It's just... ever since that parent-teacher meeting, Levi's been... really off."
Erwin didn't reply immediately, but when he did, his voice had taken a slightly higher pitch. "How's he off?"
I looked away. "Well, he cut all contacts with me, even blocking my number. He never speaks or even looks at me at school, and he's always going to freshmen girls to hang out."
Erwin lifted an eyebrow playfully. "Are you sure it's not jealousy? I heard a lot of hate in your voice towards the end there."
"Jealous or not, it doesn't matter. I just want to know what's going on with him."
"Well, how do you know Levi's not changing, and that he's finally grown out of his teenie tiny shell and making new friends?" Erwin questioned, taking a step closer.
I let out a small huff. "Erwin. You and I both know the answer to that question."
Erwin smirked. "Impossible."
"Thanks for trying to cheer me up a bit, but I really want you to answer that question."
I looked up, my eyes meeting his. "I'm really worried."
Erwin stared at me, not replying. All of a sudden he moved forward, wrapping his arms around me, bringing me into a hug.
I put my hands on his chest, secrets enjoying the warmth from him in this chilly breeze. "E-Erwin... hey.."
"Hm?"
"This is all nice and such, but can you let go?"
Erwin slowly let go of me, and I was finally able to inhale some air. "I don't exactly know what's going on with Levi, but all I know is that he's very.... distressed right now."
"Why?" I asked, desperate to know more.
"Just trust me when I say; he's going through a lot. And he feels it's best to leave you out of this whole mess. So he can protect you."
I stared at Erwin, my mouth slightly open. Protect me?
"But why did he start hanging out with those... sluts?"
Erwin's eyes flashed with surprise. "That's a strong word there (Y/N). You're not one to say something like that."
"I don't care!" I snapped. "I've seen the way those bitches act around him! And now you're telling me, he's only doing this to protect me?"
The surprise died out of Erwin, and his facial features grew serious.
"As I said, he's willing to go great lengths to protect you. He hopes that if he hangs out with some other girl, it will make you leave him."
"..what?"
"He wants to protect you (Y/N). And he'll do anything, even if it makes him the bad guy."
"But... protect me from what?"
Erwin instantly avoided eye contact as the words left my mouth. "Something... dangerous."
I crossed my arms. "If it's truly that dangerous, then shouldn't I have a right to know what's going on?"
"No!" Erwin growled. "Levi's right. It's best that you don't know!"
I flinched, remembering the words on the paper, and what that damn voice said to me. This is so stupid.
"You're all the fucking same! I can't stand being around people like you--"
All of a sudden, the blonde man's eyes snapped open, before he collapsed onto his knees, a sharp cry of pain piercing through the air.
"Erwin!" I gasped, rushing down to help him. "What's going on?"
I reached for his arm, trying my best to give some support, but he shook me off harshly.
He brought his hand to his head, clutching it fiercely. Growls of pain left him multiple times, and here I was, completely dumbfounded and helpless.
Erwin's knees didn't support him for long, and he finally collapsed on his side, letting out a groan of undoubted pain.
Panicked, I screamed out for help. "ANYONE! PLEASE HELP!!"
I coughed, wheezing for breath desperately. "HELP!!"
I screamed at the top of my lungs. Oh why did we have to meet up in the abandoned park?
"What's going on??!" A voice yelled from a distance. My heart slumped in relief, seeing Annie running quickly to my direction.
I noticed Levi was following her from behind, his face showing nothing but fear and anxiousness, as well as worry for his friend.
"It's Erwin," I rasped out as they reached me. "He suddenly collapsed, and he's in bad pain."
I turned back to loom at him, shuddering on the grassy floor. "I-I don't know what to do!"
Annie was quick to respond, much quicker than Levi. She rushed to his side, examining his face and his quivering body. "We have to get him to the infirmary room. Now."
Annie turned to me, her blue eyes dead serious. "(Y/N), can you go get Mr. Hannes?"
"Mr. Hannes?" I repeated, my heart racing. "Shouldn't I ask help from the first teacher I meet?"
Annie shook her head, desperation beginning to sound clear in her voice. "No! Please, just get Mr. Hannes."
Turning to Levi, she said," Help me get him up."
"Tch."
Levi reached Erwin in long, swift strides, carefully lifting him up. His sharp gaze met mine. "Well go get him already!" He snarled.
My blood boiled in anger, but I held back. Helping Erwin was my top priority, and nothing was going to distract me from it.
I sprinted back towards the school, crashing through the back door. The halls were quiet and lifeless.
I mentally facepalmed. Of course you dummy, it's a weekend! I quickly ran through the halls, completely ignoring the signs that said "NO RUNNING IN THE HALLS".
I made my way to the teacher's office, only to crash into someone as I turned in a corner.
"Shit!" The person exclaimed. I looked around me, seeing files scattered on the floor.
"I'm so sorry!" I apologized, trying my best to quickly gather everything as neatly as possible. "I didn't mean to bump into you, I was just in a rush to find-..."
I gazed up, my (e/c) eyes meeting hazel ones. "Find who kiddo?" Mr. Hannes asked impatiently.
"To find you," I breathed out, jumping up. "Mr. Hannes! It's Erwin! He just suddenly collapsed!"
Mr. Hannes' mouth dropped and his eyes widened. "Annie and Levi are carrying him to the infirmary right now as we speak!"
"Aw shit," Mr. Hannes muttered, his hand massaging his temple. "Alright, I'll go see him. (Y/N) can you collect everything on the floor and bring them to Keith-- I mean, Mr. Shadis?"
"But I want to see him too," I protested, watching him jogging away.
"Keith will kill me if I don't give those expedition files right now!" The blonde man shouted, tossing the words behind him.
I stood in the middle of a mess alone, feeling annoyed and impatient. Fighting back the boiling anger, I picked up the files on the floor one by one and stacked it up neatly.
I wondered where Mr. Shadis was as I lifted up the files. Sighing, I opened the door to the teacher's room, disappointed to only find Ms. Rico sitting at her desk.
Ms. Rico and I, we don't get along well. At least not after that spitball prank we threw on her during our first year here.
Ever since that, she's just been giving me minimum passing grades on everything.
I didn't have any other choice. I haven't a clue on where Mr. Shadis is, and the only person I can ask is her.
"Excuse me Ms. Rico," I began, my voice slightly muffled by the files. "Do you know where Mr. Shadis is?"
Ms. Rico gave me a sharp stare. "And why should I tell you?"
My patience was running thin. I wanted to get this over and done with so I can check up on Erwin. "Please tell me, or I'll report you to the principal," I snapped, letting my voice drop low.
"As if." She rolled her eyes and continued scrolling through her phone.
I dropped the files on a desk, creating a giant thump and startling her. "Hey, what the fu--"
I glared at the stupid, ignorant bitch. "You know I won't hesitate to do it."
Ms. Rico gulped nervously, slightly sinking in her chair. "Y-you're such a freak student."
"Last. Chance."
Sweat dribbled down her face, and she looked away. "W-whatever. He's in his classroom. Now go away."
"Thank you," I spat, picking up the files and exiting the room. Once I had created enough distance from the teacher's room, I called out to voice.
You've finally made yourself useful for once, Voice.
How arrogant. I only did it because I can't stand hearing another squabble fight between you and Rico.
Think whatever you want.
I climbed the stairs, careful not to fall and drop everything. Once I successfully made it to the second floor, I went up again to the third.
After that, I made my way to my classroom, kicking the door open.
"What the fuck--"
"Sir." I placed the stack of files on his desk. "Here are the files for the expedition that you asked for. The ones Mr. Hannes was supposed to bring."
Mr. Shadis just stared at me with his golden eyes, before staring at the files in confusion. "What the hell is Hannes doing now?"
He took one of the files and began scanning it, flipping through the papers and letting out a grunt. He placed it on the other side of his desk, and took another one and skimmed it.
"Is this some kind of joke?" He asked, looking up to me. I shrugged in response.
"Not even one of this fucking files is complete, and that blonde fuck was supposed to deliver it to me next week."
"Are you kidding me," I deadpanned, remembering the words he said to me. "Sir, he said and I quote, 'Keith will kill me if I don't get those expedition files right now!'."
Mr. Shadis slumped on his seat and stared at me with those black-holed eyes. "(Y/N), he lied to you. He was supposed to deliver the expedition files in two weeks. These aren't even the expedition files. They're your class' attendance records. Hell, I asked him to give them to me next week."
I was mad. No, I was furious. How dare he lie to me like that. What am I? Some sort of joke?
It wasn't hard for Mr. Shadis to realize that I was angry. After all, even though he's a shitty teacher that curses a lot, he was extremely observant.
"Leave the files here, I'll take them back later. I'd imagine you're going to go find him now."
"Correct," I snarled behind gritted teeth, my head starting to feel fuzzy with anger.
"If you meet him, then give him a good punch. You have my permission. Dismissed."
I turned on my heels and walked away, never feeling this much rage in my before.
