"Okay now you gotta pay up, Irwin."
"For the last time, we weren't doing anything, you guys." I let out a loud groan and run my hands down my face in exasperation.
I'd been saying these same words over and over in an attempt to convince my four very nosy friends who'd recently caught us in our compromising position.
Luke had yet to say anything, actually, as he seemed rather irritated at the whole ordeal. He sighed deeply when Cassie first interrupted us and reluctantly pushed himself off of the wall and away from me.
I can't say I'm not disappointed that Luke couldn't continue saying whatever he was about to say, because that would be a blatant lie. I am. I really am.
"Then what the hell was that? Some kind of extra credit assignment?" I was absolutely mortified by this point, but Cassie and the three boys seems quite amused by their own inappropriate comments on the matter.
"Oh my god-"
"Don't bring the lord into this when you were about to get it on with Lucifer, little Lisi." Ashton adds, rather smugly.
"I was not about to-"
"Yes you were."
"No I-"
"So he's just your professor, then? Is that what you're saying?" Cassie raises an eyebrow.
I'm about to say yes because that's exactly what I'd been trying to get across the whole time, but Luke speaks before I get the word out.
"No."
All eyes turn to him, including my own, with equally stunned expressions. He's leaned against the opposite wall, one foot propped up, looking angry as ever.
Did he just say no?
"What-" I choke out the word with a dry throat, but Luke isn't having it.
"I said no," he pushes himself off the wall and steps toward me. "Now, if you're all quite done with the interrogation, I need to speak with Elise, privately."
I'm left stunned into silence while I try to wrap my head around his words. He's looking expectantly at my friends, who stand with open mouths and puzzled expressions.
Michael's the first to snap out of it. "Okay, sounds good." He shrugs. Cassie smacks him on the arm.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"What's the big deal? It's not like Lisi isn't old enough. Plus, he seems like the kinda guy with condoms out the ass, so we're good, right, Hemmo?"
I start coughing uncontrollably and Luke puts his hand on my lower back and moves his hand up and down ever so gently. "You okay?" He murmurs softy and looks at me with concerned eyes. My heart flips at his gesture and I give him a small smile as I nod.
"I'm so fucking single."
I had almost forgotten that we were in the presence of four other people, who all just witnessed our small moment.
"What the fuck? Does Cashton mean nothing to you?"
"It'll mean something to me when you look at me like that, mate." Calum says, gesturing to Luke and I.
"Alright everybody pause for a second," Cassie starts. "Look, no one loves Lusi more than me but-"
"Lusi?" Luke looks at the girl with confusion.
"Yes, Lusi, as in Luke and Lisi," she rolls her eyes. "Keep up, Hemmings, come on."
He gives me a look and I just shrug because that's just who Cassie is. There's really no explanation I can give him.
"Anyways, I'm all for it, okay? I mean sure it's a bit kinky and I still don't want you guys doing it on my desk-"
"Cassie!"
She waves me off. "-But, you guys better be careful. I mean, I may not be the biggest rule follower out there but I think getting naked with your professor is pretty frowned upon."
I have the worst friends.
I'm covering my face with my hands and I feel Luke tense beside me.
"Frowned upon? I'm pretty sure it's illegal, Cass," I give Michael a frantic look because that's exactly the last thing I wanted to hear at the moment.
"Just sayin'." He shrugs nonchalantly.
I sneak a glance up at Luke to see his eyes trained on my pink haired friend, jaw clenched tightly. His hand is still on my back, unmoving, but I take it as a positive sign that he's not completely pissed at me.
"That's enough. There's nothing illegal going on here-"
"Okay, chill, Hemmo, don't go all teacher mode on us," Michael puts his hands in the air in mock surrender. "By the way, it's cool if I call you Hemmo, right? Because I'm gonna call you Hemmo."
"No-"
"It's either that or Flemmings, Hemmo."
"I don't know, it's not really fitting to me," Cassie adds. "He's really more of a Lucifer."
"Or we could just call him Luke?" Calum's suddenly the voice of reason.
"Thank you-"
"Cake."
"What?"
"Calum and Luke. Cake. It's cute but I'm sort of rooting for Lashton, because there's a real power struggle there. Muke is dead, though, that's for sure." Cassie rambles on. Luke looks absolutely bewildered and I don't blame him.
I grimace and decide to stop the nonsense. "Cass, please, can we not? I really gotta talk to Luke, okay?" I feel Luke's fingers trail up to the exposed skin of my back where my top doesn't quite meet my skirt and I shiver slightly. I think he notices because the faintest trace of a smirk makes its way into his face.
"Alright, alright, jeez," Cassie puts her hands up.
She and Michael are so damn similar.
"I can take a hint, I know when I'm not wanted," she's wearing a smug smile. "Let's go fuckboys, little Lisi needs some alone time with Mr. Grumpy over here." She points an accusing finger at Luke.
He rolls his eyes and moves slightly closer to me. "How very thoughtful of you, Cassie."
"I've been told I'm a pleasure to be around. You're very welcome, Lucifer." She's already pushing the three boys down the empty hallway when Ashton calls out one last time.
"Be safe, children! Call us if you need anything! Condoms, lube, I'm looking at you, Hemmings!" And with that, they disappear back into the club.
I can't even look at Luke because he probably hates me by now and I cover my eyes tightly with my hands as I shake my head in disappointment.
I sense him moving to stand in front of me but I don't budge.
I feel strong hands grip both of my wrists gently before he tugs them away from my face, putting them at my sides and lacing his fingers with mine.
My heart's pounding way too hard when I finally pull my head up to look at him. He's biting his bottom lip harshly and his eyes scan my face frantically. What he's looking for, I'm not sure.
I don't know what to say to him, because I'm so damn embarrassed by what happened and I'm sure he wants nothing more than to completely dissociate himself from some teenage girl and her immature friends. I look down in guilt because the thought of him distancing himself from me completely makes me sadder than I'd like to admit.
"Elise," he says softer than ever. He removes one hand from mine to tilt my chin back up to face him and looks concerned at my sudden shift in mood. I avert my eyes from his blue ones and he sighs. "Come on." He drops his hand from my chin and pulls me to follow him outside with his other.
"Where are we going?" I whisper.
He doesn't answer, just leads me through the parking lot to a glossy black Range Rover that I can only assume is his. He opens the passenger door for me and drops my hand, but I don't make any movement to get inside.
He sighs, again, and I feel even worse because I'm just annoying him at this point. I don't have much time to feel bad for myself, though, because he walks over to me and dips down to lift me up with his arm under the backs of my knees and my lower back.
I yelp in surprise and fling my arms around his neck to keep myself from falling, to which he chuckles slightly at before gently placing me in the passenger seat.
I let out a breath once he climbs into the drivers seat. "God damn it, Luke, you can't just do things like that," I mumble.
"Had to get you in the car somehow." A grin creeps onto his lips.
He starts the car and we drive off in silence. I don't know where we're going and I'm anxious because I'm still fairly certain he hates me but is only hiding it to keep me from getting upset.
I don't realize that I'm bouncing my leg nervously until a warm hand reaches down to grip my thigh to stop me, and I'm suddenly shaking for a different reason.
He rubs his thumb gently on the outside of my thigh and I try to act like my insides aren't complete mush at his touch. I fail miserably.
"You're shivering," he frowns. "Are you cold?"
No, that's because of you.
"Is it?"
"What?" I turn my head to look at him.
"Is it really because of me?"
Oh no.
"I-I didn't mean to say that-"
"Answer the question." He squeezes my thigh and I involuntarily press them together at the stern tone he uses.
Hey, Elise, do you maybe wanna stop acting like a complete hormonal fool for once?
"Yes," it's barely a whisper, and although I know he hears me I somehow know it isn't good enough.
He rakes his fingernails against the skin of my inner thigh and I have to bite my lip to stop a whimper from escaping.
Weak bitch.
"Yes?" He rasps. "Am I making you shiver, little girl?"
I glance from his hand on my thigh to his face to see him already looking at me with dark eyes. I hadn't even realized we'd stopped moving.
"Tell me, Lis, I want you to tell me these things." The look he's giving me makes my lips go dry and I run my tongue over them to gain some moisture back before pulling my bottom one between my teeth.
His other hand shoots out in an instant, gripping my chin and using his thumb to gently pull my bottom lip out from my teeth. He runs his thumb along it slowly and I'm certain I've never wanted someone to kiss me so badly in my life.
"Yes, Luke, you always do." I finally admit to his question in a breathless voice.
He stops the movement of his thumb and looks up from his gaze on my lips to meet my eyes. He gives me a small smile and shifts his hand up to hold my cheek gently.
His thumb moves softy on the apple of my cheek and he looks at me with so much care it makes my chest hurt.
"I should get you home," he whispers, not stopping the movement of his hand nor looking away from my eyes.
He sighs deeply and finally removes his hand from my face, but keeps the other one placed gently on my thigh. He starts driving again and resumes the slow caress of his thumb.
My mind feels foggy and my brain is stuck in a daze. His gentle words and touches replay in my head and I'm still so confused.
I don't know what he wants, or what he's thinking, and I can't read his expressions.
I thought for sure he'd of told me off by now for my friends' crude comments, but his actions are so caring and gentle that I feel like I might've got it all wrong.
I'm not even sure what I want at this point. All I know is that when my eyes flutter shut at some point during the drive he must think I've fallen asleep, because surely he doesn't mean to whisper his next few words out loud.
"What are you doing to me, Lis?"
I could ask you the same thing.
