Zoe's POV
I nervously walk down a hospital hall.
I haven't visited Connor in a while, now... Would he realize? Or would he not care?
Taking a deep breath, I reach the door to his room.
Alright Zoe, you can do this.
I raise my hand and formed a fist to knock on the door, but I hesitate.
What if he doesn't want to see me?
Will he scream at me to get out?
Alright, you're being irrational, just do it, like the Nike guy says.
I knock on the door.
No answer.
I knock again, but still no response.
Maybe he's fallen and he can't get up?
I surpress a smile. That would be hilarious though.
I twist the handle and swing
the door open.
As soon as I do this, Evan and Connor were like monkeys.
Connor is rolling on his bed while the top of Evan' head is on the floor but he's half lying on his back on the bed.
"Are you guys high?!" I exclaim.
Evans POV
Connor freezes and shoots Zoe an icy glare. "So you don't see me in almost two months, and that's the first thing you say to me?"
Zoe seems confused, but it quickly changes to anger. "Well you sure looked like it!" she yells.
He abruptly sits up. "Are f*cking kidding me?! Do you think I can even get high in a hospital?!"
"Knowing your personality, probably," Zoe snaps.
"Do you really think that low of me?" Connor asks, staring at the floor.
I tense. Zoe, please say the right thing.
"Yes. I do!"
I gasp. No.
Connor turns away from Zoe and looks at the window. "I don't care."
"Well, I don't care about you!"
"I know you don't! You guys never did," he seethes.
"Guess that's why I haven't visited you in so long," Zoe snaps.
I see tears form in his eyes.
"F*ck you!" He yells.
"F*ck you!" She fires back.
"You hog all the attention and love from Cynthia and Larry!"
"So?"
"Why can't you let me be loved by them for a little longer?"
"They do love you, they visit you twice a week!"
"But-"
"They have jobs, and they have to play of your medical bill too! It's not my fault you can't do anything right!"
"I know that!"
The room goes silent. Zoe has a face with regret on, while Connor is still facing the window.
Zoe looks down. "Connor, I-"
"I can't do anything right. If I had just done one right thing for once, I wouldn't have landed here."
Zoe looks confused again. "Wait-"
"Get out," Connor orders.
"Connor-"
"-Get out!"
"I just-"
"Get the f*ck out before I punch your f*cking face off!" He growls.
"F*ck you!" Zoe yells as she storms out the door and slams the door shut.
A moment of silence passes.
Connor silently walks to the door and locks it before sliding down the door, sobbing.
I quickly run over and take a seat next to him. "Connor," I whisper.
"I should've taken more," he murmers.
My own tears start slipping down my face as I realize what he meant. "No, Connor!"
"I should've taken 12 of them, not 11."
I hug him tightly. "I'm glad you didn't. Otherwise this wouldn't have happened." I cup his face with my hands and peck him gently on the cheek.
He gives a small smile as I wipe his tears away with my thumbs. His tears come to a stop.
"I love you, Connor," I say gently, "don't forget....please remember that."
He nods. "I love you too, Ev."
His eyes were tired, probably from crying.
"Sleep," I suggest, leading him to his bed.
We sit down.
"I don't want to sleep," he groans.
"Why not?"
"Because once I fall asleep, you'll go."
I giggle. He's so cute!!! "Fine, I'll stay for a bit."
"Only a bit?"
"Yeah, I have to do my homework."
"Then you can do it here," Connor suggests, "you brought your backpack."
"I need a computer too."
He points to his laptop on the small armchair. "Use my laptop."
"What if... What if your laptop goes to sleep and I can't use it anymore because you'll be sleeping?"
Connor sighs. "Password is iforgotoops."
"You don't.. You forgot your own password?" I ask, amused.
He laughs. "No, that was that password."
"Oh," I comment, writing it down on a sticky note.
I take my math homework out of my backpack and sit on the bed, next to Connor who was snuggled in the blankets.
As I was doing my math homework, i could feel Connor's soft gaze on me.
"Go to sleep, Connor," I sigh, smiling.
"M'kay," he whispers, instantly falling asleep.
**time skip to the next morning brought to you by the milk Connor finished**
I wake to the sound of birds chirping in the sunlight.
I turn my head and find Connor, sleeping next to me.
I check my phone.
6:48am. Thursday. 46 missed calls, 105 messages.
SPRUCE, I'LL BE LATE FOR SCHOOL, AND MOM IS GOING TO KILL ME!!
I write a short note to Connor before grabbing my backpack and stealing his uneaten granola bar.
I slip on my shoes with the granola bar in my mouth and head out the door, sprinting down the hall.
I use Google Maps® to find the fastest route.
After three bus rides, I finally reach my school.
As soon as I reach 1st period class, I'm ambushed by Jared.
"Dude, where were you?!" Jared asks, "Your mom said you never came home!"
"I was with.. Um.. I was at the hospital," I reply.
"You could've answered just one of our calls or messages," Jared groans.
"Our?"
"Yeah, your mom and I sent you so many things," he informs.
I'm stunned. "Oh.. Well... Um.. I never knew you cared about me."
Jared stares at me, shocked. "We're friends, of course I care!"
"Family friends," I correct.
"You seriously believed that?" Jared asks.
My heart rate speeds up a bit, for some reason. "Um.. I... I don't know."
Jared sighs. "Evan, we're friends, not just family friends. I was just kidding about that family friends part."
I look at him, hopeful. "Wait are you.... wait really?"
Jared smiles. "Of course, man!"
I smile back. "Oh! Then... That's.. That means I have... um.."
"You have two friends now," Jared states.
I nod.
The bell rings.
Jared is wide-eyed. "Crap, Evan! We have a quiz now!"
"Spruce, I'm screwed," I muttered.
