Just wanted to take this time
To allow much respect
For this thing called poetry
And showing it the courtesy
Until my last breath
Writing and writing
Until I have nothing left
As poetry has been inviting
From the very beginning
And a fire felt
Tightening my mind
Like a leather belt
As each thought of mine
Over a long period of time
Has kept me going
Title for title
Poem for poem
Bypassing the norm
And being a quiet storm
To be read and embraced
For miles around
Picking me up and never down
As I've appreciated
Every single moment
That has ever occurred
Line by line
Word for word
As I write always
With a sense of urgency
For this is one moment
But never the last
That I acknowledge and give
Some poetic courtesy
