it was all laughing and smiles, every day. it always was for george and i.
"we need to get away."
george moved closer to me on his parents' sofa. we were spending another weekend here with his whole family. his sister was like my sister and his brother was my best friend. his parents claimed to love me and that gave george full faith to bring me back here monthly.
"it won't be easy. your family have already seen us."
i whispered, informing my boyfriend that our escape would be indiscreet.
"just excuse yourself."
he nudged me before standing up.
"i'm just popping to get my charger from the car."
george made up an excuse and left the front door.
"excuse me while i use the bathroom."
i left the lounge also and pulled my phone out. george had text me the word 'garden' and it didn't take me long to deduce his location.
i slipped out the back door and into the sunset-lit garden. he sat under the tree at the end with two glasses of wine.
"how did you manage this?"
i joined my boyfriend with a smile.
"i lived here with this family for nineteen years, i learned a lot."
we tapped our glasses to each other's and sipped the wine as the sun continued to set.
