Kirumi's POV
I hadn't chosen to enrol into Hopes Peak, contrary to popular belief. My parents had always encouraged me to try my best, and that Hopes Peak would assist in my efforts. The wanted me to become a famous maid doing good for the world, not stuck working a dead-end job.
I... had to at least have some respect for them for only wanting the best for me.
My original plans were to only get close to people who could help me, and that I could assist in return. More business partners than friends. If anybody asked about my Ultimate, I'd be honest and let them use me for cleaning their dorms (Kokichi especially enjoyed abusing my cleaning abilities).
However, when night fell I didn't sleep. Or rather, I couldn't sleep. The reason? Nighttime was the only time I got to myself, excusing the many midnights and early mornings which I spent either studying or reading about fictional characters to drag myself out of reality, even though I felt guilt every time.
From ten o'clock at night to six o'clock in the morning I'd let my own thoughts and wishes wash over me like a warm salty wave.
How I would love to work in the catering business rather than the cleaning business.
How I yearned to have more free-time, though I always considered myself selfish for wishing for such things.
How I'd always liked girls.
I'd been closeted for a while, since nobody really asked about who I was; they only really asked about what I did, or (more specifically) what I could do for them.
The black of the night was cool against my pale skin. It was raining - I could hear the rain. It smelled of rain, too, which was quite nice. Was this what life was supposed to be? Did I really have to run around after others until I died?
I pushed the selfish thought from my mind and stared up at my usually white ceiling, though it had been dyed grey from the darkness.
That's when I heard her.

She was certainly the most interesting student of the bunch, and she actually loved all of the stories I told her bout the nightmare clients or my home life and other things about my home life.
You read that correctly - she talked to me genuinely.
I'd actually began developing a small crush on her, but it would be out of line to ask if she was attracted to people of the same gender.
Though she could be a bit... provocative, she had a creative and constantly eccentric personality.
One, two, three knocks on my door. They were bold and loud knocks - Iruma was coming over? At such a late hour?
I answered the door with my usual formal smile. Through the black darkness I saw the pale blue eyes of Miu Iruma.
"Oh, good evening Miu. Is there something that I may assist you with?"
"Good, you're up!" It took me a second to recognise Miu's eyes were gleaming with a creative spark. "I need your opinion on something!"
"Come again?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was a maid being asked for my opinion.
"You heard me, Tojo, I need your thoughts on this thing I'm working on."
In the name of fulfilling my duty as a maid, I nodded to permit her to continue. "Go on."
"Jeez, you're really not catching on. I NEED TO SHOW YOU. IN MY ROOM." Without waiting for me to respond, she grabbed my wrist and dragged me excitedly into her dorm.
Her dorm... it looked like a steampunk novel had came to life in her room with a modern splash to it. The shorter student began fumbling around her desk. She froze for a second.
Miu's POV
My original enthusiasm had ebbed away into straight up nerves. Oh God, she wasn't going to like my gift, was she? She was going to jump to conclusions and think I was prepping something creepy.
Silently panicking, I heard the cool and collected voice of Tojo from behind me. "Iruma, are you alright? Do you need assistance in finding what you're looking for?"
"F-Found it!" I don't think I've ever stuttered in front of someone up until I'd met Kirumi. Jesus Christ.
"Kirumi,"I spun around and pointed a bouquet of flowers at her. "You're now my girlfriend!"
She hesitated for a second before smiling sweetly, blushing.
"If that is what you wish, Miu, then I would love to be your romantic partner. However, what did you wish for my opinion on?"
"Should I rig this bouquet with a knife so I can stab anyone who comes near you?!"
"Miu... I love you but... oh God..."
