If you enjoy the story that follows, please consider making a charitable donation to the FRAXA Research Foundation and the National Fragile X Foundation. Both have pages on the web that your search engine will find for you.
Fragile X is a genetic disease caused by a single defect on the X chromosome, which causes profound intellectual issues in those possessing it. The failure of the FMR1 gene leads to the cessation of production of a protein vital for brain development, a fact only recently discovered through research. Future gene therapy holds promise. My nephew and I thank you in advance for your consideration, your time and your gift.
