Chapter 33
How could Damon just drag a body in like that? Doesn't he have a soul, mind you at the moment he looks like shit. Angry shit. He held Riley by his wrist letting his body hit and scrape against anything Damon could find to hit him with
I stood there shocked for a moment before I moved and follwed an angry Damon and a even angrier Jay. The boys made it to the living room and Damon slumped Riley's unconscious body on the coffee table
"What do we do with him?" Damon growled
I looked at Jay confused when his fists clenched and let out a throaty growl. The room shook knocking me off balance
"Wait til he wakes up and when he does beat him til he's numb" Jay hissed
"What!" I choked stumbling to an unconscious Riley "What did he do?"
Looking at Riley he seems so innocent, his face was all bloody and beaten. His clothes were ripped and he had open gashes over his body. I let my fingers trace the wounds when I felt someone grab my wrist, stopping me from anything
"Leave him" Damon growled releasing his grip on my wrist
"Don't you care?" I scoffed turning back to Riley
"Right now, no. It's his own damn fault" Damon hissed injecting a needle into his arm with brutal force
Jay and Damon seemed to not care why Riley was there although I found it suspicious, I felt bad for the guy. What could he have possible done to deserve this
"I said leave him" Damon growled
"Well explain to me why I can't touch him" I argued
He sighed heavily and stormed up in front of me, his jaw clenched and his chest rose and fell with every breath. Intimidating at the most and I had to stand straighter to prove I wasn't going to back down
"Fine! You wanna know?" he roared
"Damon calm down otherwise you'll have me to deal with" Jay ordered barking at him
"That piece of shit right there was on his way to kill you" he growled stepping closer to me
"What?" I stuttered
Looking at Riley my heart nearly stopped. He was on his was to kill me, and for what. After all these years I thought he was my friend and truely cared for my safety but I guess you can never judge a books by its cover
He couldn't have possibly had the intention to kill me because he's rescued me before and he did say he was here to protect me. Something was off and I glared at Damon
"He was here to kill me because someone told him" I pointed a finger at Riley
"Who could possibly want you dead besides Death" Damon accused crossing his arms
"I don't know but I know he would never intentionally come to kill me"
Damon and I glared at one another before he let out a defeated sigh and fell back onto the couch
"There are people who have a motive to kill her" Jay said stepping closer to me "and I have a couple people who could be responsible for him" Jay said nodding towards Riley
"Who?" Damon and I said in unison
"I have a good guess and it may be Gabe or Aiden"
Aiden? Gabe? I haven't seen Gabe since the whole mate incident when Dahlia came and ruined what could have been a happy life for me. Aiden, I haven't spoken to him since that whole fallout with Ashley and since she's lost her memory I don't even know if he'll forgive me for causing this. Sighing I let my head drop and took a calming breath
"Explain" I murmured
I heard Jay shuffle up in front of me before he bent over to pick me up and place me back on his lap. He nuzzled his face in the crook of my neck before placing a single kiss there
"Aiden wouldn't actually want you dead but to scare you away, and Riley would be the perfect person to do that" Jay began
"But where is Aiden supposed to find magic or whatever like that" I argued
"Point taken but there are people who stumble into these situations"
"Aiden has had no interest in stuff like this since I've known him and he wouldn't start now" I cut Jay off
"That knocks him off your list of suspects" Damon said slouching back against the couch
I glared at his relaxed posture but I guess if you're not the target you wouldn't have so much t worry about but still if the situation were on reverse I'd at least try and help instead of sitting there fighting with the person
"Well that leaves Gabe" I sighed
"Gabe has every intention to have you killed, your powers, he definately hates me and you're best friends with his new mate" Jace said but I could near the growl at the back of his throat erupt
"How cute, jealousy" Damon grinned
"You're an asshole you know that right?" I barked at him
"I sure do it's not my fault everyone wants you dead sweetheart" he grinned wider when Jay growled "Look I'll leave this him here for the time being and when he comes to make sure he doesn't go anywhere"
Damon got up and shifted into his wolf, it was nearly as black as Jace's and the sounds of his bones cracking had me rolling my shoulders. He spared once last look at me and his canines were visble, his tongue went out and licked them before he sprinted out the front door. I swear he has more emotions that me
"Where's he gone?" I asked
"Home, to do some research" Jay shifted pulling me off him and sitting up
"Where are you going?" I almost whispered when my head snapped to Riley
"As much as Damon's right, Riley is my friend and you seem to be right. He'd never kill you and I know it because I've known Riley all my life" Jay said sparing a glance at Riley "He's a puppet in this game"
I didn't have time say another word when Jay walked out of the room. I turned back to Riley and almost reached out to hug him when he started groaning in pain, clutching his arm. He coughed and blood splattered form his mouth. I got up and went to the kitchen to get a cloth to wipe away the blood
When I came back Riley had managed to roll over and lay on the side that hurt just moments ago. Sighing I carefully turned him back over softly wiped away the dirt and blood from his face. There was a cut above his lip and across his eyebrow, a open wound was starting to get infected on his cheek, he really needs to be cleaned up. That's just the injuries on his face, just imagine the marks in his body
"Jay he needs to cleaned" I sighed standing up
"Don't even think about it" he growled dropping the clothes he was carrying
"I wasn't even suggesting that, I was going to say why don't you get one of the pack members to do it" I rolled my eyes
"I'm not that bad, and I told the pack I wouln't be in contact until I knew it was safe"
"Well what do you propose, he needs to get cleaned up before his wounds get infected" I said softly
Jay nodded and helped Riley off the table, he carried him supporting him with one shoulder. Walking to the bathroom took mere seconds with Jay's speed and strength. He set Riley against the basin and stood by the door
"I'm not going to touch him so I'll stand here and observe you, so there's no funny business" he told me but mostly to a coming Riley
I smiled at his obvious jealousy, I lifted Riley's shirt up but it was pulled down almost straight away by a furious looking Jay
"I need to clean all the cuts which means I need to see where they are"
"Fine" he growled lowly
He slowly released Riley's shirt and I pulled it over his head, gazing over his chest there was a deep cut just under his heart and I traced his heart when Jay stared growling. Pulling away I reached under the basin to get the first aid kit, taking out the needle and lighter I stashed there. Threading the needle I was about to flick the lighter when Jay took it off me
"What are you doing with this?" he said worriedly
"This is not the time" I sighed snatching it off him
I ignored the looks Jay gave me and flicked the lighter on, sterilising the needle. I put it down and got another wet cloth to wash the wound when what Riley really needed was t have a shower. Contemplating the situation in my head I got up and turned the shower on, making sure the water was warm I helped Riley to the shower and leant him against the wall, letting the water wash away the dirt and dried blood covering his body. Jay was standing there watching me, my every movement. I had made the decision to leave his grey track pants on but judging from the groans of pain that came form his mouth when the water hit his legs there was a few cuts and bruises there
"Riley wake up" I said shaking his lightly
His head tilted side to side and I opened his eyelids, he was still out cold
"Jay can you change him into a pair of boxers?" I asked turning the shower head away
He shook his head no clenchinng his fists until I got up and walked over to him but not before turning the shower off. I reached up and cupped his face kissing both of his cheeks "Trust me" I whispered
Jay came back with a pair of boxers and he hesitantly closed the door, knowing him he didn't want to stand there and watch me wash Riley. I wouldn't either. Cutting his pants open I shut my eyes and put the boxers on, stopping when he groaned as I hit an open wound. He moved and I turned the shower back on letting the water rinse the blood of his legs, after I finished I helped him out of the shower and put a towel on the floor sitting him there
I sat across form Riley until he dried off a bit more, the towel should have taken most of the water away. I got the threaded needle and burned it again to make sure. He winced when I started sewing his wounds together and I held back when his leg jolted. Looking up at him, his eyes were slowly starting to open and I smiled in relief
"Relax" I whispered
He groaned when I pressed on his leg and apologized in advanced for any other pains I might cause. He nodded weakly and let me finish sewing up all the wounds, after I finished he was awake but very weak. I put the cloths and first aid kit away. The bathroom was clean again and I sat on the toilet seat staring at Riley
"Thank you" he choked
"Who did this?" I whispered
He coughed and sat up looking around the room he almost stumbled when he realized where he was
"How did I get here?"
"Damon dragged you in here, literally" I cringed
"Can I lie down somewhere?" he said breathless
I got up hastily and lifted him from the floor, nearing the door it was opened and Jay stood there in some faded grey track pants
"Let me help" he offered taking Riley off my shoulder
He walked effortlessly across the hallway and opposite our bedroom where he made the bed. Squeezing through the doorway he put Riley down and he automatically fell back in pain
"Riley who did this?" I pressed
"I can't remember" he coughed "last thing I remember is getting up and then getting knocked out"
"How do you explain the cuts and bruises?" I added
"I don't know how those got there but looks like someone had a good time" he wheezed
"That's not funny" I glared sitting next to him
I looked at Jay who stood at the foot of the bed, waiting for something to happen or for Riley to say anything useful. What doesn't make sense it why he was beaten and left there after he was knocked out. Obviously theres more than one accomplice in this story
"Can you tell us anything helpful?" Jay said fiddling through the drawers
"I don't know what I can say, last person I saw was......" he cursed "shit, I know who drugged me"
"Who!" I shouted accidentally
"Little barstard" he swore "Damon"
Damon drugged him, well that explains his angry attitude and why he didn't care but beating Riley to a pulp. Still the situation was two sided, Damon didn't attack him so who did? and why was Damon so bitter when he arrived here
"Have you seen anything, anyone suspicious around here?" I blurted
"No" Riley answered
"You don't think?" Jay pressed
"There's only one person who would attack Riley and the attacker got him for a reason to get to me" I said in realization "He's not after Riley he's after me"
"Who?" Riley asked his voice hoarse
Jay knew exactly what I was talking about and ran out of the room, to lock and seal every opening. I stood there frozen even when Riley reached out to touch me
"Who's coming?" he asked
"Death, Death is coming. He knows where we are now" I stuttered
"What where are we?" he said worried
"The organization, he knows where I am and now he's here to destroy this place. Your home" I said getting up "Wait here"
I didn't let Riley talk me into staying with him, I need to go and find Jay. He already knows he's coming but now we need defense. I found Jay in the kitchen shutting the window
"We need to go to the bunker" he said quickly taking my hand in his
"Riley, we need to get Riley!" I shouted
"We need to hurry just in case" he ordered
Running back down to the room Riley was in we each held him, one of his arms draped over one of ours while running in time with Jay
The bunker was behind the house and under a little bush, when we got there it was far from being a bunker it was like a small little cottage under here. Except the windows but pretty much that and the only way in was with a fingerprint. The entrance was hidden beneath a bush and then you'd have to drop down which was hard work considering Riley was unable to walk
"Why are we here?" Riley wheezed
"Other than the organization, this place is the only place Death can't come in but up there" Jay pointed up "he can"
"How long do we stay here for?" Riley asked
"A few days i'll keep in contact with Damon" Jay said unlocking a door
Kicking it open, Jay stepped in and placed Riley down on a bed, there was only one bed. But there was a few gym equipment and alot of room to breathe. Looking around there was a bed, a few gyn equipment, a seperate area for food and another sealed door
"How are we all supposed to fit on that bed?" I asked stupidly
Both boys scrunched up their faces and then they both looked at me
"You and Jay can have the bed" Riley said
"But your cuts"
"I'll be fine, you two have done enough" Riley gushed smiling
I smiled back and Jay shook his head defeated, I know that look and boy did it not like him. That look was defeated and hesitant
"You and Abby take the bed, I'd rather sleep in the floor then you" he gazed at me "but don't you think for one second that I'm doing this for you" he pointed an accusing finger at Riley
"Jay you don't-"
"Its fine Abby, just rest please. No more debating" he sighed
Jay left straight away without another glance at me and I ran after him, I wasn't going to leave him like that. I may be a girl but I'm not useless
"Jay!" I called out
"Abby?" he stumbled back when I wrapped my arms around him
"I love you" I whispered kissing his chest
"I love you too" he smiled lifting me up so my legs wrapped around his waist
He walked back to a wall, my back hitting it softly. He kissed me possessively just the way I like it and I ran my hands through his hair. He pulled back smiling
"I've wanted to do that since this morning"
"I can tell" I said letting my legs fall
Walking away I turned back and blew a kiss to him "I get to sleep with you tomorrow night, no buts" I grinned "besides your cute little one" I laughed walking away
I heard Jay laugh behind me and then a door open and close. Riley sat there staring at the ceiling when I walked in and sat down next to him
"You two really are good together" Riley admitted laying down
"Thanks" I muttered inching space between us
Even though me and Riley are close, I know it took Jay alot of argueing with his wolf to let another male sleep with his mate and for that I'm greatful
"Riley?" I whispered
He didn't answer so I took that as a sign for him to be sleeping. Sighing I rolled over to face away from him
"Goodnight Riley, I wish it was like the old days when times were easier" I sighed
