I finally graduated middle school :D
Now to hear my scores :")
-------------------------
I choked on my meal. "Tonight?!"
The girl nodded. "I can't think of a better time than this. I'm doing it tonight."
I gave Petra a smile. Honestly, I'm both happy and worried for her.
I swear if Levi breaks her heart I'll--
"You'll still get me ice cream if he rejects, right (Y/N)?" Petra asked suddenly.
"Huh? Yeah, sure. Of course I would."
"Then that's all I need," she giggled. "Thanks (Y/N), you're the best friend and wingman."
The strawberry-blonde hugged me making me flinch slightly. I'm still not used to hugs.
She let go of me and wandered off, getting some peace and quiet before the big event.
I closed my eyes, digesting everything that just happened. I sighed and opened my eyes, taking another bite from my food.
I was hoping there'd be some taste, but it's still shit.
I chewed my food, staring at nothing.
Chew.
Chew.
Chew.
Che--
CHOKE!
Breath.
Swallow.
A sad routine, I know, but who gives a fuck anyways.
From the side, a hand wandered to my food and took a chunk of it, making my eyes widen.
I whipped around to see Levi sitting beside me, his eyes on my food as he chewed the piece of food he stole.
Wait, that's not important!
Levi has OCD! How the hell is he able to do that? I thought he cared about hygine problems more than anything?
But I guess the exclamation slipped from my mouth before I could stop it.
"Hands off my food bitch!"
Levi looked up to me, raising a brow. "Well you fucktard, I'm hungry and there's no more food left. That's the last pack you're eating there you shit."
My brain's thoughts was everywhere. "But, that's unhygienic!"
The raven clicked his tongue in annoyance. "I'm going to starve to death if I don't brat. It's not like I have a choice."
I gave him a wary glance before handing him the half eaten food. "Here, have it. I lost my appetite."
Levi took the food in his hands, his gaze flickering back and forth from it and me. "Because of me?"
"What?"
"Did you lose your appetite because of me?" He asked again, making me shake my head.
"No, I just had enough," I half lied, bringing my knees to my chest.
I did lose my appetite because of him, but it was mostly because of the guilt. I realised he was right.
Petra and I had eaten, but Levi hasn't. He's just been drinking hot water this whole time. I suppose the guilt got to me, and I couldn't even bare eating knowing he hasn't at all.
"Petra hugs a lot, doesn't she?" Levi said out of nowhere.
"So?"
"Don't you feel uncomfortable at all?"
I looked away. "It's not like it's poison or something. Why?"
Now it was Levi's turn to look away. "I just don't like it."
"You don't like Petra hugging me?"
"No!" Levi replied immediately. "I just don't like hugs."
"Even if it's from someone you lik-- care dearly?"
He glanced at me in suspicion. "It depends. I don't like people touching me in general."
"Touching huh?" I gave a sly smile, and Levi got the point instantly.
"Do it and I'll chop that hand off shitstack," he threatened, making me chuckle mentally.
I raised a finger and poked it at his cheek. "Boop."
Just as I thought.
He stared daggers at me, but he didn't chop my hand off. Heck, he wasn't even swiping it away.
I smirked. "See? You're just glaring at me, but you didn't cut my hand."
Levi rolled his eyes and opened his mouth, pretending to bite my finger that was poking his face.
I snatched my hand away just as Levi's jaws came snapping down, making me think again.
Was he even pretending?
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Petra walking back to me. I smiled at her and shuffled over so she could sit.
A few moments passed with us complaining about Shadis, the report, the expedition and just how crappy everything is.
By the time we finished, the moon had risen high into the sky, faint clouds decorating it along with the thousands of stars.
This is the perfect time.
I glanced back at the tent, purposely. I stood up and headed inside, earning a question from Levi. "Hey where the hell are you going?"
"Inside," I replied, pointing towards the tent. "My mind's been bugging me to go recheck our notes. Be right back."
It's done. My last duty as a wingman is finished. Now, to wait for the result.
*
I felt my stomach churn as I waited for either Petra or Levi to come back. I had taken a few peeks, but all I could see is a blur of their silhouettes.
Did Levi feel the same about Petra?
Are they in an official relationship now?
Or did things go south?
Anxiety filled my body, and I shuddered from the strong feel.
*
A shadow passed in front of the tent, followed by another. A few moments later, Petra's head bobbed in the tent.
I quickly welcomed her in, examining her features for results.
Her face had no expression. She didn't look sad, but didn't look happy either. She was just wearing a poker face, void of any expression.
And that was extremely rare for her.
I tilted my head. "So... how did it go...?" I asked slowly, since from her facial features I couldn't tell if it went good or not.
Petra's eyes flashed before she said in a low voice, "South."
"Oh Petra, I promise I'll buy you all the ice creams once we get back in the dorms. And I'll also promise I'll make you special breakfasts everyday in the remaining time we're here."
Petra let out a sad chuckle. "(Y/N) stop, you're being too sweet."
Her eyes flashed again before continuing, "That's not necessary. I feel..... fine. I thought I'd be devestated, but I feel fine."
I narrowed my eyes. "You sure Petra?"
She wasn't fine. We both know that.
She smiled, though it still looked rather painful. "I'm sure. Uh, look, I'm going to head in for the night."
But she didn't want to pursue the subject anymore.
"Alright, goodnight."
"...night."
I left the tent to catch some air, when I noticed Levi sitting alone in front of the dead fireplace.
He.... rejected her.
I stomped towards Levi, and from the way his eyes had flickered to me for a millisecond, he knew I was going there.
I opened my mouth to speak, making sure it was in a hushed tone. "Why?"
Levi sighed and closed his eyes, rubbing his temples. "I had every right to."
"She's an angel Levi! What more could you want?"
"Something else!" He snapped, then softening his tone. "I didn't like Petra the way she did to me. You knew that."
Guilt choked me, and I shook my head to get rid of it. "Even if I did, what was I supposed to do other than tell her the chances of rejection? Just plain out tell her 'Hey, the guy who you've had a crush on for years doesn't like you back. You shouldn't confess.'?"
Levi looked away, sighing again. "I had every right to reject her (Y/N). End of discussion."
I scoffed and sat down, bringing my knees to my chest and sinking my head into them.
"You know, Petra was the one who got rejected. How come you're the one looking so miserable?"
I didn't answer him.
"If it's because of guilt, then I suggest you erase that shit from your mind right now. It was Petra's choice, not yours. So stop moping like a shitbag."
He left after that, slipping inside the tent, leaving me all alone.
I suppose he is right. I had warned her. Surely that was all I can do?
It's not my place to tell her who she can and cannot confess to.
Still, the guilt won't go away.
I need to distract my mind.
Slowly, I made my way down to the lake, taking each step carefully since the only source of light I had was the moon.
I finally reached the lake, my eyes widening on how beautiful it was.
It looked beautiful from the overhang, but it looked much more incredible from below.
The lake seemed to glow. Fireflies flew around, lighting up the waters in a beautiful sparkle. Thin clouds of mists hung over the lake, giving it a mysterious touch.
I sat down, leaning back on a rock as I listened to the night come alive.
Soft whispers lulled me to sleep, along with the gentle flow of the lake, and the cool breeze that blew softly on my face.
I slowly felt my consciousness slip, as darkness pulled me over to the sweet release of sleep.
