Chapter 10
Holy shit. What was she doing here? How did she know where I lived? Megan!
"What are you doing here, your not welcomed." I said in a low voice so Chris couldn't hear me from the kitchen.
"I came to see how you are, and to offer help to get your dad into rehab." She mumbled
I pushed her out the door following her and closed the door behind me.
"Iv got dad into a rehab centre starting next week without your help. I stopped needing your help the day you walked out on us if you wanted to help you should have done it 4 fucking years ago! He put me threw hell and back after you left, you should have took me with you. A daughter should not have to take care of her father in that way. I hate you for leaving me, and I don't care if I ever see your face again." I was furious.
"I'm sorry but."
"Stop! I don't want or need your excuses. Just go back to where you came from."
"I'm going to stop by and see your father." She said boldly.
"Don't you even dare! You will make him worst, drive him to drink more, or probably kill himself." A little harsh but I was so mad that she had the nerve to show up to my home.
"Just leave mother. Don't show your face around here again."
"I'm sorry Nancy." she said as she walked away.
I turned and walked into the house into the kitchen where Chris was making me breakfast. It smelt do good, French toast.
"I need to have you over more often." I joked.
"Anytime you want me here just call, I'll come running." Chris said flipping the French toast
"You cheese ball." I said laughing. He laughed too.
"Who was at the door?"
"My mom!"
Chris's face dropped when I said it. He stayed silent for a moment, poured up some coffee then said "you don't seem to upset about it."
"I told her how I felt, got it off my chest and I feel 100 pounds lighter." I took a deep breath and left it out.
"That's great! Want breakfast?"
"I'd love some!" I flashed him a smile.
We sat together in quiet and ate our breakfast, drank our coffee then engaged I'm small talk after we finished eating.
For the first time ever I showered with a man, with a little kissing a fore play it was an exciting shower. When we were done Chris put back on his PJ's going commando underneath. It turned me on big time, but I had to work in 25 minutes so time was short.
"Can I give you a ride to work?" Chris asked
"How will I get home?"
"I can pick you up when your done your shift? I don't have much to do today! And I was hoping we can have a in house date this evening? I can cook you dinner, that is if I can borrow your kitchen?" He didn't stop smiling.
"Well if your dinner is as good as your breakfast you can cook for me anytime, I will get you my spare key."
This is getting serious fast. He is paying for my dad's rehab, that he yet knows nothing about. I am now giving him access to my home without me here. It felt right. I didn't feel nervous about him being in my home alone, or that things were moving fast, all I knew was I wanted him here.
I got to work just in time. I walked in all smiles, how could I not? I have met an amazing man, my dad will soon get the help he needs and everything I wanted to say to my mom has now been said.
It was a busy morning which I liked, it made time go faster and the faster time went the sooner I get to see Chris again. Should I tell him I love him? Do I love him? Will it scare him off I mean we have only known each other a few weeks. Maybe I should stop by my dads and tell him I'm sending him to rehab? So many things were going threw my head, I already spilled 2 water and dropped a bowl if soup. I need to focus on work now, everything else later.
Chris pulled in the parking lot at 4:15. 15 minutes before I got off.
"Is he the reason your all out if whack today?" Sara said nudging me.
"It's possible." Not giving anything away.
"Well girl you of all people deserve to be happy!"
"Thank you Sara. I'm going to get clean up and head home if that's ok?"
"Sure Nancy, you have a good night, I'll see you tomorrow lunch time."
I went out back washed my hands, laid my book and pen on the desk then grabbing my purse I headed for the door. Chris was in the Audi with the roof down and his his black ray bans on. How did I get so lucky?
"Hey gorgeous, we have to run to the grocery store and liquor store before heading to your place, I forgot a few things." Chris said as I climbed in the car.
"Sure."
Chris pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store, put the car in park and turned it off. He then turned to me leaned over and gave me a sweet, romantic kiss. After a minute or so we stopped and the both of us smiled. Then we got out and walked towards the grocery store. I grabbed a shopping basket and followed Chris down the veggie isle, he put red, green and yellow peppers in the baskets. We walked threw every isle of the grocery store, Chris also added sweet and sour sauce and garlic powder. When we reached the check out we took a detour down the tooth brush isle and he threw a tooth brush in the basket. I noticed at the end of the isle was the condom section and it hit me that we haven't been using protection! I pulled Chris to one side.
"We have a problem!" I looked him in the eyes.
"We do?" He looked confused.
"We have not been using protection when we have sex!" I thought I was going to throw up.
"Are you pregnant? Your not on the pill?" He sounded angry
"I don't think, and no." I said in a low voice looking at the floor.
Chris grabbed a pregnancy test and a box of condoms threw them in the basket then took the basket from me and walked to the check out.
Slowly walking behind him towards the car I was scared he was going to freak out once were out of ears way of anyone who could hear us. I sat quietly in the passengers side and looked out the window.
"This is just as much my fault as it is yours. I'm sorry for the way I handled it. If your not pregnant we need these condoms." He said pointing to the bag.
"And if I am? what will I do then Chris?" I said trying not to cry.
"Your not alone Nancy, don't ever for one second think that you will go threw this by yourself."
"Ok."
He started the car and pulled out if the parking lot. He placed him hand on my knee and gave me a small grin.
What am I going to do. I can't be pregnant, I can't be pregnant kept playing in my head. Once Chris pulled in the drive way I got nervous, this is the moment or truth. I will go inside pee on a stick and find out if my life is over, if I'm pregnant with a baby for a man I hardly know.
"Give me the test please, I'll find out now." I said with my hand out.
Chris took the test out of the bag and handed it to me. I went straight for the bathroom sat on the toilet. As I was opening the pregnancy test my hands were shaking, and my stomach was in knots. I stuck the stick between my legs let my pee flow over it them put the cap over it and placed it on the sink while I wiped myself and washed my hands. I paced back and forth waiting for the lines to show up.
"It's negative!" I smiled handing Chris the test.
"That's good right?"
"What do you mean? Of course it's good, I'm not pregnant."
"Yea. I'm sorry. While you were on the bathroom I had a small feeling of excitement that it might be positive." He said looking down at the chopping board as he cut up the peppers.
"Really? I had that feeling for a split second before I looked at it, but it's good that I'm not. I should probably go to the doctor and get on the pill, or the patch so something like this does not happen again." I picked up my phone and walked out if the room as I dialled the doctors office.
"Something smells delicious." I said re entering the kitchen. Chris was after pouring up 2 glasses of white wine, and whatever he was cooking was simmering on the stove.
He handed me a glass of wine and said "I'm making steak stir fry. My mom showed me how to make a few things before I moved out a few years ago."
"Sounds like a good woman!" I took a sip of my wine. The same wine we had the night if our first date.
"So Nancy.. I was thinking we should probably take a trip to New York." He is stood back on so I can't tell if he was serious or not.
"Is that so?" I said playfully.
"Yes! You should probably check out the rehab centre your dad will be sent too, maybe see my company, meet my parents?"
"Your company? Your parents? I didn't know it was your company I just thought you worked there. And do you really think I should be meeting your parents after 3 1/2 weeks?" I was shocked. His parents, his company. This is a bit much for one day, along with our little pregnancy scare.
"Yes, I own all the C.M motels across the states. C.M stands for Chris McGrath. As for my parents they know about you and insisted on meeting you." His face was giving nothing away as he placed the stir fry on our plates.
"How do they know about me? I can't let you pay for me to make a trip to New York and also for my dad's trip to rehab. It's to much Chris." I was serious.
"They know because I asked them about the rehab centre, and also because I'm spending more time here than I need too. And Nancy it's not to much. I have more money than I know what to go with." He placed the plate in front of me and went to get our forks.
"Well it's a good thing I fell in love with you before I knew you were rotten with money."
