Lisa's P.O.V.

Although it was dark, it wasn't less hot. I took off my jacket and wrapped it around my waist. Now that the sun was gone so was the chance of my arms getting burned.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. We had left Wicked behind and yet I felt as if their eyes were on me all the time. I felt like a walking bomb, ready to go off any second. As I looked around at all the Gladers, all the people I could hurt, I wondered if staying with them really had been the best choice.

Suddenly the silence of the night was broken by a scream. A girl was screaming somewhere in the distance. First I didn't know if it was real or not. I mean I had voices in my head who told me to kill people. But when the others looked around, confused as well, I relaxed a bit more.
Soon we all quit running. Once everyone had caught their breath it was easier to hear the sound. It was almost like a cat, an injured, wailing cat. The kind of noise that made your skin crawl and press your hands to your ears and wish it went away. There was something unnatural about it, and it made goosebumps cover my arms.
I looked around and saw Dawn her face getting more white with the second. Or maybe it was just the moonlight. Her eyes found mine staring at her and she gave me a reassuring smile. Which I knew didn't mean much.
'You know what that reminds me of?' Minho asked, making me turn around. I frowned when I saw the hint of fear on his face. As far as I knew he was never afraid. Or at least, he didn't show it.
'Ben. Alby. Dawn. Me, I guess? Screaming after the Griever sting?' Thomas answered.
'You got it.'
'No, no, no,' Frypan moaned. 'Don't tell me we're gonna have those suckers out here too. I can't take that.'
'Doubt it. Remember how moist and gooey their skin was? They'd turn into a big dust ball if they rolled around in this stuff,' Newt responded.
'Newt's right,' Dawn whispered.
I took a deep breath and turned toward the city. 'I don't like this place,' I said, clenching my hands. 'I don't like it at all.'
We were all silence for a couple of minutes, staring at the city in the distance and listening to the screaming.
'I think we should take a break,' Minho said. 'Fill our little tummies and drink up. Then we should book it for as long as we can stand it while the sun is still down. Maybe get an hour sleep before dawn.'
'And the psycho screaming lady out there?' Frypan asked.
'Sounds like she's plenty busy with her own troubles,' Minho answered.
Somehow everyone calmed down by hearing that answer and we all sat down.

I sat down a bit away from the group. Creating distance seemed like the best option for me at the moment. Suddenly someone came sitting next to me. I looked up and saw Dawn smiling at me.
'Hey.'
I smiled back. 'Hey.'
'How, ehm are you doing?'
I smirked, but it was without happiness. 'My urge to kill is still gone if that's what you mean.'
She grinned, put up her legs and hugged them. She rested her chin on her knees and stared with a frown in the distance. I took a deep breath and started to braid my hair.

Suddenly Dawn broke the silence between us and when she spoke there was something in her voice that put me on edge.
'Lisa?'
'Mmm?' I looked at Dawn and frowned. 'What is it?'
She took a deep breath. 'You know I told you about my memories returning, right?'
I nodded slowly, not understanding what she was trying to say.
'Well, I remember,' she cut herself off, playing with her hair while staring in the distance.
'You don't have to tell me if you don't want to,' I whispered.
She shook her head, turning her gaze to me. 'No, I want to.' Taking a deep breath the turned to me, folding her hands in her lap. 'Do you remember anything about your family? Anything at all?'
I stared at her for a second, still very confused, before opening my mouth and speaking slowly. 'No, not really. I mean they must've hated me, I mean how else would I end up with Wicked. Why?'
Dawn sighed and rubbed her eyes. 'Well, when I was taken by Janson he told me something. And I wouldn't have believed it if he didn't gave me back some of my memories right after that.'
I stared curiously at her. 'Go on.'
She took a deep breath. 'He told me who my parents were, well who my father was. And...my sister.'
My eyes widened. 'You have a sister? And you remember them?'
Dawn looked at me, the stars reflecting in her eyes. 'He told me that,' she bit her lip. 'You're my sister.'

I opened my mouth to respond but closed it again. A frown appeared on my face and I felt my heart beat faster. Somehow, somewhere, I knew she spoke the truth. And I had a feeling like I always knew it. It didn't feel unreal or weird to me, just another piece fitting into place.
I nodded slowly. 'So, sisters, huh.'
She gave me a small smile. 'Yeah.'
Suddenly I reached out and gave her a tight hug. 'It's good to see you again, little sister.'
She laughed. 'You too.'

Then I frowned and let her go. 'But then who is our dad?'
She looked at me and there was no need to say it. Her eyes said it all.
I gasped. 'Janson?'
She nodded, sadness clouding her eyes.
'No way! That that...Rat?'
She nodded again.
I groaned and hit the sand with my fist. 'Why him? Out of all the people on this earth!'
Dawn shook her head. 'I have no idea.'
I looked at her. 'And you're sure this is true and not some stupid plan of him and the rest of those lunatics?'
She sighed. 'I know it's true because when he said it there was a....feeling. I don't know how to describe it. But I know it's true.'
'And the memories you have back?' I asked her. 'Do they confirm it?'
'They're...' She cut herself off and stared into the distance. Then she sighed. 'They're horrible.'
I frowned and lay my hand on her shoulder. 'You can tell me.'
She smiled at me and started talking. And what she told me shocked me. About how we used to live in this beautiful city. How we played with the boy living across the street. How our mother sang lullabies to us and how our father taught us everything the school couldn't.
But then everything changed. The virus took over the city and infected our mother. She did the most awfull things like eating our cat, hurting herself and screaming. The whole time she screamed. Dawn told me how our father was sometimes gone for weeks doing who knows what. How we went to live with the little boy and his sister from across the street. She told me about when our father finally returned and he took us back.
He tried to safe our mother by giving her medicine but it only drove her more crazy. Then she told me about how she killed herself right in front of us. After that our father left again and when he came he told us some nice men would come to pick us up. But they turned out to be Wicked Guards. And then the worst part. He sold us to them. For his own freedom.
She told me about our life at Wicked. How they took our old name and gave us new ones. How she was introduced to the girls of Group B and pretend to be okay with everything.
And that was where her memory stopped.

Once she was done talking she started playing with her hair again.
I took a deep breath. 'I can't believe you remember all that. I don't even...' I swallowed and shook my head.
Dawn nodded, clearly with her thoughts somewhere else. I smiled and put my hand on her shoulder.
'You know what. It doesn't matter.' She frowned and looked back at me. 'How so? He is our father and we can't just...ignore that.'
'No, we can't. But we don't have to let it bother us either. He might be our father, but we are nothing like him. And we never will be.' Dawn smiled and gave me a hug.
'Thanks.'
I returned the hug. 'Always, sis.'
It felt good to have her by my side again.

Suddenly I let her go and turned towards the city.
Dawn frowned at me and I sighed. The girl was still screaming and it was driving me insane.
'I wish she'd shut up,' I mumbled.
'Agreed,' Dawn said while staring at the city as well.

The next morning the sun woke us up with its burning flames. I groaned and jumped up from the sand.
Dawn who had been lying next to me stood up as well and I put my jacket back on.
Minho, as our new nobel leader, tried to get everyone up and moving.
It had taken a while for my legs to loosen up once Minho got everyone moving again.
Above us the sun was burning down, making all my bones and skin turn into flames. I groaned and saw Dawn smirking at me. I stuck out my tongue making her smirk only wider. I wasn't sure when it happened exactly, but suddenly the buildings of the city seemed a lot closer. And there were a lot more then I first thought. Taller too. Wider. Spread out and organized in rows. For all we knew, the place might've once been a major city, destroyed by whatever had happened to this earth.
Could sun flares really make that much damage? Or had other things caused it?
Despite the goosebumps that the sight of the broke city gave me, I was hoping we would reach the buildings soon. At least there would be some shadow.

'Hey!' Thomas suddenly yelled, making us stop and turn to him. He pointed to something in the distance.
I frowned and stared at it. It seemed to be a little shed or something.
'Looks like a little building up there, just a few minutes away, to the right some. You guys see it?'
'Yeah I see it,' Minho responded. 'Wonder what it is.'
Before any of us could respond two things happened. First the haunted screams of the girl finally stopped, instantly, cut short as if a door had closed on her.
Then stepping out from behind the dark little building ahead of us a figure appeared. A girl figure.
Long hair flowing from her shadowed head, like black silk. I gasped.
It was Teresa.
