Kyla
"Hey guys" I said to Dominic and Laura as I sat down with my sandwich
They've been spending a lot of time with each other lately. My girl Laura going after what she wants.
They both greeted me and continued carrying on in their own, very close conversation, occasionally talking to me.
"Kyla, can I have a word with you?" Lena tapped me on my shoulder
I looked at her hand, then back at her. "No" I said before turning back around, showing attention to my food
"It may have sounded like a question, but it wasn't." She still stood behind me
"And it may have sounded like I was playing, but I wasn't." I took a bite of my sandwich
She finally realized I wasn't going to entertain her and she walked off.
"What was that about?" Laura asked
"No idea." I sipped some of my water
A few minutes later, Mekai came over
"Wassup y'all" he sat down, grabbing my other half of sandwich
"Nigga" I stared at him
"My bad. Want a bite?" He smiled as he chewed, tossing his arm over my shoulder
"You lucky I wasn't gonna eat that" I shook my head
"Lucky huh? What were you gonna do?" He whispered in my ear
"Beat yo ass" I said, chuckling "Get out of my space"
"Nah, I'm comfortable" he said as if I had given him an option
"Punk ass"
"Watch ya mouth" he pinched my arm
"Ow, stupid" I elbowed him, but not hard
"Your girlfriend was just over here" Laura said
"So?" He chuckled
"You don't wanna go sit with her?"
"Nah, she good. I'm busy" he smirked at me and I rolled my eyes
Once lunch was over, I threw my trash away and headed to class with Laura while Dominic and Mekai went another way.
"What's going on with you and Mekai?" She smiled
"Studying" I rolled my eyes
"Mhm...I think y'all should go out with me and Dominic tonight"
"If you're trying to double date, you should talk this out with Lena, his girlfriend" I said
"Don't think of it as a double date. It's more of a friendship thing"
"Where y'all going?" I asked
"To the movies and the skating rink"
"Mm, I'll pass" I declined, not wanting anyone to get any ideas
She sighed "At least think about it"
"I have more important things to think about" I shrugged

"Welcome to Lilian's, may I start you off with something to drink?" I picked up an extra shift at work, since I didn't have anything else to do
"I'll have your phone number instead" the guy removed the menu from in front of his face
"Let me know when you've decided what you want to drink" I rolled my eyes, about to walk away
"Wait, wait." He stood up "That was corny, I apologize"
"It was, but I'll let it slide since you're kind of cute"
"That's wassup. I'm Calvin" he reached his hand out
"I'm-"
"Kyla, I see you around school all the time" we shook hands
"We have any classes together?" I asked, noticing that I've never seen him
"Nah, I always see you in the halls though"
"Why don't you speak?" I raised an eyebrow
"Because you always look so damn mean"
"Mean? I've always thought I looked too approachable" I said sarcastically.
"The mean look fits you very well" he smirked
"Really? Tell me more" I said playfully
"I mean we are already at a restaurant" he pointed to his empty table
"You aren't just using this as a way to get a cheap first date, are you?"
"Of course not, I just wanna talk a little more" he pulled out my chair

"I can't believe I've been here almost an entire hour after my shift and I'm not working" I chuckled
"That's a good thing, right?" Calvin asked
"Yes, it's very good. Finally I'm not working or worried about school" I sighed
"Maybe we can have more encounters so I can take your mind off of all those things" he reached across the table and placed his hand on mine
"That doesn't-"
"Wassup Kyla" Mekai approached the table
"Hey, what you doing here?" He caught me off guard a little
"It's a diner, people come here to eat." He shrugged "Who's this?"
I cleared my throat "This is Calvin, Calvin this is Mekai"
"You're an amazing quarterback bruh." Calvin reached his hand out
"Thanks" he turned his attention back to me "I'm actually here on a double date with Laura and Dominic. Wanna join us Kyla?"
"Nah, I'm cool" I said, feeling like he was telling me more than asking
"You sure? It might not be enough room for your friend here, but I'm sure Laura would love for you to come sit with us"
"I'm fine, Mekai." I said a little more stern "I'll catch you guys later"
He poked his tongue on the inside of his jaw, eyeing me "Cool. See you" he walked off
"An ex?" Calvin asked
"Hell no." I scoffed "A friend of a friend"
After that, I felt like Mekai's eyes were on me the entire night, even though he was with Lena.
Mekai
"Did you enjoy the movie?" Lena hugged up on me
"It was cool" I shrugged her off "Did you guys happen to see any of it? Considering the fact that your faces were glued together the entire time" I said to Dominic and Laura, who were pulling away from kissing
"Yeah, I especially liked the part when the guy was tryna' show his date a good time and his friend kept getting in the way" he said sarcastically
How dare he try to act like I'm being worrisome. His black ass asked me to tag along "Nigga you-"
"Baby, leave them alone and give me some attention" Lena smirked, placing my hand on her thigh
"Where our food at?" I shouted throughout the diner "Horrible ass service!"
A few people gave me some dirty looks, but I ain't mind that shit. "Fuck y'all looking at?"
I pulled out my phone and sent Kyla a text
Who ol' boy? -11:23pm
I watched her as I pressed send. When it delivered, she picked up her phone, read it, and placed it back on the table.
