*A/N: I know it's a little late for one of these kinds of notes, but I wanted to clear some things up about ages and all.

-Avery was pregnant with Quinn at late 16; she gave birth to Quinn mid 17. She is in her senior year, and almost 18.

-Hayden is 18, also senior.

-Quinn is 1 year old.

I just thought I'd cleared that up, because I was confused about that a little bit also. :)

I still held that tight grudge since I left Hayden dropped me off from his house that night. I barely talked to him in the car on the way home, but he just laughed it off and said that I looked cute when I was angry. Well then, I'm about to look even hotter because I was irritated and furious at the same time.

I fished through all of the dark clothes in my closet, searching for one that popped out at me. I mean, if I was going to a dinner, might as well dress my best, right?

I paused for a moment and stopped picking through the piles of clothes. My eyebrows furrowed, and a puzzled expression appeared on my face. What the hell has happened to me since Hayden came into my life? Damn him and his split personalities.

Sighing, I tightly gripped the plastic hanger of a black cocktail dress I owned. It was tighter near the top where my boobs would be filling in, and then starts to sway just above my hips. Ruffles and silver linings decorated the lower half and it ended just below mid-thigh. I don't remember how or when the hell I got this dress, but I thought it made me look at least a little sexy.

I shook my head at the sudden thought and slipped into the dress with ease. I then turn to the mirror, facing the real challenge of getting ready. Grabbing my eyeliner, i started applying it under my waterline and above my eyelid.

Just about half an hour later, I was fully finished for dinner with Hayden. In my opinion, boys just don't give girls enough credit for looking their best in under an hour. It's always the complaining and “Why do you take that long?” Well guys, we want to look damn well for you instead of looking like shit faces. Even though I don't spend the whole day in the bathroom, I know well enough how long we should take.

I grab my black combat boots and stumble down the stairs, where I could barely make out Hayden's head lights through the window's curtains.

“Going out tonight?” Mom asked from the kitchen, nearly making me jump in surprise.

I nodded, plopping down on the couch to slip my boots on.

“You know, I'm proud of you Avery.”

My eyebrows furrowed, and I looked up at my mom in confusion. “What are you talking about?”

Mom smiled at me. “You've found a man that you'll spend the rest of your life with, and now you've changed into a woman.”

“Mom, I've changed into a woman when I was twelve and got my period.” I rolled my eyes at her, pushing myself off of the couch. “I'm not spending the rest of my life with Hayden. Our relationship is complicated.”

The door bell rang, and I sauntered towards the door to let Hayden in.

“Do you want to be with Hayden for the rest of your life?” Mom pressed, eyeing me curiously.

I thought about it for a moment. Did I? I'm not sure if Hayden was ready to be a father. He probably has big things planned ahead for him. I guess for his own good I shouldn't be with him and bothering him with my parent problems.

                I shook my head. “No, I don't.”

She looked at me, expecting another answer. I returned her look with an irked glare, before shrugging my shoulders and twisting the door knob to the front door.

I was greeted by Hayden, who had a bright smile on his face that could possibly light up the whole night. I had to admit, he looked pretty handsome in his black button down shirt. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows and he paired it with a silk grey tie and black jeans.

“Aw, I'm so glad we stuck to the color scheme!” Hayden pointed out, looking between both of your outfits.

I stared at him incredulously, though the matching colors of our outfits was just creepy and a pure coincidence. “Shut up.”

“Yes ma'am, but let me just say that you look rather ravishing tonight.” he smiled, his gaze traveling down my body. I felt a little uncomfortable with his eyes traveling down my body. However, Hayden probably realized what he was doing and his head snapped up, trying to reach my eyes, but I looked anywhere him. I'm glad that he decided to change the subject. “Hi, Mrs. Williams!”

Mom waved kindly, before resuming what I was assuming a lonely dinner by herself. As she was doing so, she sent me a glance and waggled her eyebrows, causing me to roll my eyes. Shouldn't she know that I didn't want a love life when I still had my little daughter on my hands? Well, not literally since the man I am in a bet in is her foster brother.

“Shouldn't we be going now?” Hayden asked, breaking the awkward silence that was radiating off of the three of us.

I nodded in agreement, brushing past Hayden and stomping annoyingly towards his car, leaving him to shut the front door. I could hear his footsteps behind me as I make my way towards the car. Waiting for him by the passenger door, I lean against it and watch Hayden walk to the car.

His eyebrows furrowed at my action. “What are you waiting for? The door is unlocked.”

I gave him a flat look. Did he seriously not know the proper boyfriend etiquette you would see on the television? “Yeah, but you're supposed to open the door for me, stupid.”

                “Why—?”

                “Just do it.”

Hayden grumbled some unnecessary curse words before reluctantly strolling towards the passenger side of the car. He plastered on a fake smile on his face, before opening the door and bowing down like a personal chauffeur would. It was really uncalled for, in my opinion.

“Here you go, m’lady.” Hayden said, motioning for me to hop into the car.

I shook my head at him and slid into the passenger seat. He shut the door as I was putting on my seat belt, and he hopped into the driver's seat as well.

“Are you all settled down now, or do you need me to get you a drink or—”

“Now that you mention it, a glass of water would quench my thirst.” I point out, smirking at him to push his buttons.

He gave me a blank look for a minute, but then turned it to an incredulous look. “I was kidding, stupid. Now let's go.” Hayden said, before pulling out of my driveway and onto the main road.

I chuckled at his sudden change of attitude. “It's funny how the littlest things could tick you off into a bad mood.”

“You're the same with me!” Hayden let out a small whining fit, glancing over at me for a moment.

I hate to admit that he had a point there. “Whatever.”

Of course, Hayden couldn't help but smile at me. “Okay.”

We fell into silence right after our conversation. I stared at the window while Hayden concentrated on the road, his fingers tapping on the wheel once in a while.

It only took a couple of minutes to get to the local restaurant. When we parked, I'm guessing that Hayden remembered earlier on what I had said about proper boyfriend etiquette. He quickly rushed over to my side and opened the door for me. Unfortunately he had that fake smile on his face.

As I got out of the car, I gave him a glare. “Wipe that fake smile off your face and slap on a new one.”

                “I'm fine with—”

“Do you want me to do it for you?” I offered, holding up my hand and preparing to smack him in the cheek.

Hayden merely just rolled his eyes at me. He then put on a new smile; one that I could tell was genuine. At least I hoped it was authentic and he wasn't a really good actor...

We both made our way into the restaurant. As we entered through the doors, my ears were met by a sea of mixed conversations. I observed the restaurant around me, taking in the smell of fresh food and the loud clattering of forks and knives.

Hayden spoke a few words to the woman behind the podium and we were escorted to our table almost immediately. I guess we were one of the smart ones who actually made a reservation, judging by the bored-looking people waiting by the entrance.

“So, what do you think?” Hayden asked when we were seated. The lady handed us our menus.

“Calm your nuts down, Hayden. I haven't even looked at the food choices yet.”

His eyebrows furrowed at my remark. “Calm your nuts?”

I shook my head and averted my gaze to the menu. It seemed that they had pretty good dishes.

“Hi, I'm Lisa and I will be your server for today.” a new voice popped up. My head snapped up to meet our waitress for the night. “Can I start you off with some drinks?”

“Coke.” Hayden and I announced at the same time. We both looked at each other and smirked.

“Ma'am, are you sure you want a Coke? Don't you think you should settle with water instead?”

Oh boy, here we go. Everywhere we go Hayden and I had to be bothered by some attractive whore who I would always get into a fight with.

“Why would I want water instead?”

Her eyes roamed over my body. I felt insecure under her judgmental gaze. “It has no calories.”

I pushed my tongue against the inside of my cheek, looking away from our rude server. “I'm just going to stick with Coke.” I reassure the waitress with my fists clenched.

She sighed and scribbled it down onto her notepad. “Okay,”

As Lisa was walking away to obtain our drinks, I couldn't help but mutter, “I hope you slip and die.”

Across the table, Hayden let out a laugh. “Do you say that to everyone?”

Shrugging, I reply to him, “Just the people who piss me off. She had no right to judge me by my weight.”

He grinned. “Besides,” Hayden held up my wrist between his middle finger and thumb. “You're about healthy weight. If not, you need to eat a bit more because you're on the skinny side.” I guess that was one way of trying to keep the mood. But that was what a good boyfriend does, right? He gently dropped my wrist back onto the table. “And I thought I pissed you off. You didn't tell me to die in a hole, did you?”

I furrowed my eyebrows, thinking back to all of the memories. “I don't think so. It's just a little hazy to me right now. Even if I did, you made it up to me.”

“How?” he asked, arching an eyebrow at me.

“You get to let me hang out with Quinn.”

Hayden's eyebrows furrowed even deeper and his tongue was bulging out of the inside of his cheek. “I've been meaning to ask you, what is it with you and Quinn?”

I gave him a one shoulder shrug. “Like I said before, she's much less annoying than you—”

“No, there's something else to it.”

“And how do you know that?”

                “I can feel it.”

I laughed at this. He can feel it? Yeah, right. “Feel it?”

                “Yeah.”

“Well, I think it's safe to say you are now mental.”

“No seriously, Avery. Listen to me.” I could tell he wasn't joking by the serious look in his eye. “It's like reading a mystery book. When you read about the other characters, you try to piece together their background story by their actions and stuff. You know what I'm saying?”

I shook my head. “No, I do not.”

Hayden sighed and slumped back into his seat. “Then I guess I don't know how to explain it.”

Our waitress chose the right time to enter come and give us our drinks. With her tray balanced in one hand, she distributed our drinks. “Coke for you,” Lisa said to Hayden, placing his drink on the coaster. She then handed me my drink. “And Diet Coke for you.”

“I ordered a regular Coke, not diet.”

She glanced at me and her smile dropped. “Hun, I'm doing you a favor. You should be thanking me.”

I chuckled and shook my head at her. Crossing my arms over my chest, I said, “Heh. I didn't know they hired anorexic whores in this place, huh? Let me guess, high school dropout who does guys on the street?”

Hayden choked quietly on his drink by an unexpected laughter. On the other hand, Lisa gasped at my insult. “How dare you?”

I held my hands up in surrender. “Hey, you were the one who ticked me off first by suggesting the water.”

Lisa pinched the bridge of her nose, and then proceeded to take our orders. As I was ordering mine, I noticed that she was shooting me daggers by my choice of meal. Luckily she didn't suggest a salad, because I was perfectly fine with my steak.

“You know, you're something special.” Hayden commented.

I arched an eyebrow. “I am?”

He nodded. “You're not afraid to insult anyone or get in trouble. Therefore, you are special.”

                “I don't think—”

“Ah, ah, ah, just hush.” Hayden commanded, pulling his fingers together and drawing it back as if it were my mouth. “So why do you like Quinn so much? There's got to be another reason.”

I sighed, recalling all of the memories I had with before I had to give her up for adoption. “Hayden, it's really not impor—”

“Yeah it is, because you are my girlfriend.”

                “Your fake girlfriend.”

“But we are supposed to be acting like a real couple, and real couples share secrets with others. I promise I won't tell.”

I was becoming frustrated with this man. “Hayden, really, I don't want to talk—” He was getting to a sensitive subject now, and I vowed to myself not to cry.

                “Tell me, Avery.”

                “Just leave it.”

“No, I won't. I feel like it's important to know why something so little and fragile could cause a tough one's weak spot.”

                “Hayden,”

                “Avery,”

“I mean it, Hayden. Leave it.”

                “No—”

“Just shut up and leave it, okay, Hayden? I really don't want to talk about it.” I yelled quite loudly. Some of the customers from other tables paused their conversation to glare at me, but quickly resumed to whatever they were talking about.

Hayden sat in silence, gawking at me and my sudden outburst. Immediately tears began to rim my eyes.

                “I'm sorry, Avery, I didn't mean...”

I shook my head and rested my chin in the palm of my hand, looking anywhere but Hayden. I couldn't have him see me crying! Actually, scratch that, I couldn’t have anyone see me cry.

Before I knew it, warm arms were around me and enveloping me in a hung. As my face was pressed against the person's chest, I noticed that Hayden wasn't across from me anymore.

“I mean it when I say I'm sorry, Avery. I didn't know it was a sensitive topic and would make you cry.”

                I shook my head. “Whatever.”

“Does Quinn remind you of a relative or something?”

Deciding to end the conversation, I simply just nodded. Hayden let out a long sigh and rubbed his hands along my arms. “I'm sorry.”

“It's fine.” I said through gritted teeth.

“Okay, I'll drop the subject now.” he offered. I nodded and watched Hayden slide back into his side of the table. “Again, I'm sorry.”

“You said you'd drop the subject.” I reminded him, fiddling with my fingers.

                “Right... sorry.”

*~*~*~*~*~*

When we were finished with a quiet dinner, Hayden drove us home. The car ride was silent and awkward, unlike the ride to the restaurant.

We pulled into the driveway. Before Hayden could pull the key out of the ignition, I was already out of the car and on my way to the front porch.

“Avery!” I sighed and glared at him from the porch. He smiled at me. “I had one. You want to do this again some time?”

I shrugged. Before he could reply, I unlocked the front door and stumbled into the living room, quickly locking it behind me. I peeked out of the window to make sure Hayden was making his way out of my driveway, and he indeed was.

My phone ringing brought me out of my stare out of the window. Sauntering towards the coffee table, I discovered that I had left it home during my date.

Without checking the caller ID, I accepted the call and held it to my ear. “Hello?”

A gruff voice was on the other end. “Hey, baby. Miss me?”

What the... when the hell did Eric get out of jail?
