There is nothing more comforting then the smell of freshly grounded coffee on cool winters morning (so what I am a winter girl, sue me). I was second in Line to make my order. I stood there and listened to the sounds of the street. Heels clicking into the pavement, cars stopping and starting an occasional honk from an unimpressed driver, small mindless chatter of people who had stopped their morning routine after meeting someone on the street. All in all. It was bliss. Especially since it was my turn to take my order.

"Good morning Miss, what would you like today?" The coffee guy was quite cheery for 7am. Not many people are, then again not many people are already making money this time of morning.

"Morning, can I take a large double, choc mocha and a large double shot caramel latte please" I asked taking my wallet out to pay for my order.

"Certainly can. So what brings you out this early of the morn'?" He asked taking 2 large styrofoam cups and adding milk to them.

"Heading to class got a double lecture today so need to be there bright eyed and bushy tail." I said chuckling to myself thinking of the reference.

"Ah sounds busy, so I'm going to go out on the limb and guess you are the chocolate girl" he said showing his extremely white, straight teeth.

I giggled, yep I actually giggled "That is correct" I said trying to keep my face straight.

"Thought so, and your boyfriend the caramel lover?" His smile faltering at little.

Once again I giggled, this time at his silly thought of me having a boyfriend. "What's so funny?" He asked handing me the first cup of steamy goodness.

"I um, don't have a boyfriend, this drink is for my best friend" I replied back holding back another giggle, handing him the note to pay for the drinks. Wow I was in a giggly mode this morning. What's gotten into me?

"Oh really? That's a bit hard to believe especially with a giggle like that. It's cute by the way" he handed me the change and gave me a light wink.

"Why thank you" I replied taking my hot chocolatey goodness. I said thank you one more time and with that I walked away.

"What's got you smiling like a kid on Christmas morning?" Charlie asked taking her drink from my hand?

"Oh nothing" I replied taking a sip of chocolate heaven. We started walking towards the building that held our first lecture of the day.

"Oh is that right? Then um why do you have a mobile number on your cup?" She asked eyebrow raised with a know it all look on her face.

I looked at my cup with shock. This was some mistake, surely.

"Charlie, are you sure you have the caramel one?" I asked taking a sip of my drink to double check it was actually the chocolate one.

"I surely do, and doesn't it taste amazing. But obviously not as amazing as yours" she replied with an all to knowing look on her face. I looked back at my cup and yep sure enough was a number with his name on it. Em.

Hmm, Em. I wonder if it's short for anything?

"Maybe this was meant for you?" I countered back.

"I wasn't in eye sight sweetie, I'm more than sure this is for you! Take it and give him a call" she shot my countering down and sipped her latte as if to end the conversation. "On but please do me a favour?" She added in.

"Sure!"

"Wait two to three days before you call him. Better yet how about a little test?" Charlie's face lit up the fireworks on the Fourth of July. She had an idea and I'm sure she was going to make it work.

"Umm I don't know..." I started

"Oh posh, come on, you need to find out if it was meant for you right? Well tomorrow same time, go back there and order a coffee. If he leaves his number again then you call him..two days afterwards" we walked into the theatre room where we were going to have our first lecture of the day. I thought about while I took my seat.

"Besides what do you have to lose if he doesn't leave his number again? You just strained out that he's not interested, save you heart ache and you move on".

Why not do that? No harm in trying that? What do I gain if he doesn't leave his number again? A free coffee that's what! I had a new found confidence thinking about this. I can start to sort out who to accept in my life or not and this was one way of doing that.

"Alright, I'll do it!"

Seven hours passed and I was throwing myself face first onto the lounge chair in our house.

"Ihateunilifewhycantitbeeasy?" I mumbled into the couch cushion.

"I can't understand mumbled jumbled talk loser. Now talking like a human being, what did you say?"

In a huff I lifted my head up "I said, I hate uni life, why can't it be easy?" I threw my head back down which hurt a little bit "owww"

Charlie walked in giggling more to herself. "Oh it's not that bad, come on Mads you gotta look at it this way. Think where your going afterwards"

She had a point, but I was in no mood in agreeing with her "I don't care, I want it to easy. I'm exhausted. Do you know how many times I've had paper airplanes fly into my head today cause I as too busy asking questions to the teacher cause I didn't understand her." I exaggerated a little.

"Yeah about fifteen, give or take" Charlie simply said shrugging popping a chip into her mouth. She dropped herself into the bean bag that was facing Matt and myself.

"FIFTEEN! Wait you were counting?" I asked looking her.

"Counting, throwing them. Whose taking note?" She popped another chip into her mouth.

"You were the one throwing them?" Mean while Matt was having a field day, having a laughing fit next me in the recliner. He even turned the TV down. At least someone thought it was funny.

"Well yeah, I mean come one you were giving us more homework with every question you asked. Besides shouldn't you have been swooning over that number you got this morning?" There goes another chip.

"Wait what number?" Matts laughter died down.

"Yep she got a number from the coffee guy we went to" ugh great she had to tell him.

"No biggie, anyways most likely nothing will come it" I said sitting up crossing my legs in front of me. I looked between the pair and saw they were both giving me perplexed looks. Matt reached over and. Touched my forehead.

"Are you sick?"

I swatted his hand away. "No why?" I asked getting annoyed at him.

"Well for one you just practically turned the guy down right here right now without calling him" Charls said throwing her empty chip packet down next to her on the floor. Oh I do hope she cleans that up! Nothing bugs me more then people just throwing their rubbish down and not pick it up.

"Yeah well weren't you the one who said not to jump to conclusions and rush into things?" I asked her giving her my most "so in your face" look.

Matt was holding back his laughter his face turning red bottom lips was being bitten and his hands were starting to curl up into balls in his lap. I had no idea why he was on the verge of looking like he was about to have an aneurism but he was close!

"I did, but seriously take the number, wait till you've done the test and if he passes call him."

I thought about it for bit and decided "ok your right. I'll do it your way. I will wait and then call ok!" I looked at Charlie, she seemed pretty satisfied with this.

"Of course I'm right! You'll see" she smirked!

"well what would you say if I threw that cup out?" I challenged sitting forward placing my elbows on my knee with a raised eye brow.

"Then I would say that your a douche and you lucked out" Matt replied for Charlie.

Charlie chuckled and pulled out her phone. She started typing at and touching the screen. Matt and I looked at each other confused then back at her.

"I would agree win Matt about the first part.. You are a douche, but lucky for you, you didn't luck out cause I saved that number." She flipped her phone around to show us the screen. I looked closer and saw a very badly taken photo of my hand wrapped around the styrofoam coffee cup....and a number written in black just a little bit down the cup. Well I didn't see that coming. I was a bit shocked. "You can thank me later" she giggled.
